84:1–5Page 589
إِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ ٱنشَقَّتۡ ١
When the sky has split [open]
وَأَذِنَتۡ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتۡ ٢
And has listened [i.e., responded]1 to its Lord and was obligated [to do so]
وَإِذَا ٱلۡأَرۡضُ مُدَّتۡ ٣
And when the earth has been extended1
وَأَلۡقَتۡ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتۡ ٤
And has cast out that within it1 and relinquished [it]
وَأَذِنَتۡ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتۡ ٥
And has listened [i.e., responded] to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] –
Whatever is related here about Doomsday refers apparently to an unknown world. However, such evidence exists as points to its veracity. An example of this is the present world itself. The very existence of the world proves that another similar or different world may come into existence. Furthermore, certain extraordinary aspects of the Quran prove that it is the Book of God. يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدۡحٗا فَمُلَٰقِيهِ ٦
O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion1 and will meet it.2
فَأَمَّا مَنۡ أُوتِيَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ ٧
Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand,
فَسَوۡفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابٗا يَسِيرٗا ٨
He will be judged with an easy account
وَيَنقَلِبُ إِلَىٰٓ أَهۡلِهِۦ مَسۡرُورٗا ٩
And return to his people in happiness.
وَأَمَّا مَنۡ أُوتِيَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ وَرَآءَ ظَهۡرِهِۦ ١٠
But as for he who is given his record behind his back,
فَسَوۡفَ يَدۡعُواْ ثُبُورٗا ١١
He will cry out for destruction
وَيَصۡلَىٰ سَعِيرًا ١٢
And [enter to] burn in a Blaze.
إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فِيٓ أَهۡلِهِۦ مَسۡرُورًا ١٣
Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness;
إِنَّهُۥ ظَنَّ أَن لَّن يَحُورَ ١٤
Indeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allāh].
بَلَىٰٓۚ إِنَّ رَبَّهُۥ كَانَ بِهِۦ بَصِيرٗا ١٥
But yes! Indeed, his Lord was ever, of him, Seeing.
فَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِٱلشَّفَقِ ١٦
So I swear by the twilight glow
وَٱلَّيۡلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ ١٧
And [by] the night and what it envelops
وَٱلۡقَمَرِ إِذَا ٱتَّسَقَ ١٨
And [by] the moon when it becomes full
لَتَرۡكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَن طَبَقٖ ١٩
[That] you will surely embark upon [i.e., experience] state after state.1
فَمَا لَهُمۡ لَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ ٢٠
So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe,
وَإِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيۡهِمُ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانُ لَا يَسۡجُدُونَۤ۩ ٢١
And when the Qur’ān is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allāh]?
بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ يُكَذِّبُونَ ٢٢
But those who have disbelieved deny,
وَٱللَّهُ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَ ٢٣
And Allāh is most knowing of what they keep within themselves.
فَبَشِّرۡهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ ٢٤
So give them tidings of a painful punishment,
In spite of such clear indications, there are those who do not believe in the Hereafter and live out their lives without ever taking it into account. Such individuals are certainly committing a crime which is deserving of the punishment mentioned above.
84:25Page 589
إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ لَهُمۡ أَجۡرٌ غَيۡرُ مَمۡنُونِۭ ٢٥
Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted.
The perfect organisation of the system of the universe ensures that the Day of Final Judgement will come. Tidings of this very Day have been given by all the prophets and their true deputies. In spite of this, those who do not accept the Truth and even become the enemies of the preachers of the Truth, indulge in such aggressiveness and arrogance that they cannot save themselves from the dreadful consequences. However, those who give a positive response to the call for Truth, in spite of different kinds of difficulties, will receive the greatest possible reward from Merciful God.
