Commentary on 102:1
﴿أَلْهَاكُمُ التَّكَاثُرُ﴾ تقول [[في (ع): (يقال).]]: ألهاني فلان عن كذا، أي أنساني، وشَغلني، ولَهيتُ عنه ألهى لهيّا، ومنه الحديث: (أن ابن الزبير كان إذا سمع صوت الرعد لَهِيَ من حديثه [["غريب الحديث" لأبي عبيد 4/ 302 - 303 وتتمته: قال: (سبحان من يسج الرعد بحمده والملائكة من خيفته). الفائق 3/ 336، ط. دار المعرفة، وقد ورد في "التفسير الكبير" 32/ 75.]] أي تركه وأعرض عنه، وكل شيء تركته فقد لهيت عنه) [[ما بين القوسين نقله عن "تهذيب اللغة" 6/ 427 - 428 (كثر)، وهو من قول الليث، وانظر: "لسان العرب" 15/ 259 - 260 (كثر).]].
والتكاثر: التباهي بكثرة المال والعدد، والتفاخر بكثرة المناقب، يقال: تكاثر القوم تكاثرًا إذا تعادوا ما لهم من كثرة المناقب.
وذكر في تفسير هذا قولان [[القول الثاني أورده عند تفسيره للآية: 2.]]:
أحدهما: أن المعنى: شغلكم (التكاثر) [[ساقط من (أ).]] بالأموال والأولاد عن طاعة الله.

100:10
وَحُصِّلَ مَا فِي ٱلصُّدُورِ ١٠
And that within the breasts is obtained,1

إِنَّ رَبَّهُم بِهِمۡ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لَّخَبِيرُۢ ١١
Indeed, their Lord with them, that Day, is [fully] Aware.1

Al-Qari'ah
The Calamity · Meccan · 11 ayahs
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
101:1
ٱلۡقَارِعَةُ ١
The Striking Calamity -
101:2
مَا ٱلۡقَارِعَةُ ٢
What is the Striking Calamity?
101:3
وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلۡقَارِعَةُ ٣
And what can make you know what is the Striking Calamity?
101:4
يَوۡمَ يَكُونُ ٱلنَّاسُ كَٱلۡفَرَاشِ ٱلۡمَبۡثُوثِ ٤
It is the Day when people will be like moths, dispersed,1

وَتَكُونُ ٱلۡجِبَالُ كَٱلۡعِهۡنِ ٱلۡمَنفُوشِ ٥
And the mountains will be like wool, fluffed up.1

101:6
فَأَمَّا مَن ثَقُلَتۡ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ ٦
Then as for one whose scales are heavy [with good deeds],
101:7
فَهُوَ فِي عِيشَةٖ رَّاضِيَةٖ ٧
He will be in a pleasant life.
101:8
وَأَمَّا مَنۡ خَفَّتۡ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ ٨
But as for one whose scales are light,
101:9
فَأُمُّهُۥ هَاوِيَةٞ ٩
101:10
وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا هِيَهۡ ١٠
And what can make you know what that is?
101:11
نَارٌ حَامِيَةُۢ ١١
It is a Fire, intensely hot.
سورة التكاثر
At-Takathur

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
102:1
أَلۡهَىٰكُمُ ٱلتَّكَاثُرُ ١
Competition in [worldly] increase diverts you
102:2
حَتَّىٰ زُرۡتُمُ ٱلۡمَقَابِرَ ٢
Until you visit the graveyards.1

102:3
كـَلَّا سَوۡفَ تَعۡلَمُونَ ٣
No! You are going to know.
102:4
ثُمَّ كـَلَّا سَوۡفَ تَعۡلَمُونَ ٤
Then, no! You are going to know.
102:5
كـَلَّا لَوۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ عِلۡمَ ٱلۡيَقِينِ ٥
No! If you only knew with knowledge of certainty...1

102:6
لَتَرَوُنَّ ٱلۡجَحِيمَ ٦
You will surely see the Hellfire.
102:7
ثُمَّ لَتَرَوُنَّهَا عَيۡنَ ٱلۡيَقِينِ ٧
Then you will surely see it with the eye of certainty.1

ثُمَّ لَتُسۡـَٔلُنَّ يَوۡمَئِذٍ عَنِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ ٨
Then you will surely be asked that Day about pleasure.1
