بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Quraysh 106:4

ٱلَّذِيٓ أَطۡعَمَهُم مِّن جُوعٖ وَءَامَنَهُم مِّنۡ خَوۡفِۭ ٤
Who has fed them, [saving them] from hunger and made them safe, [saving them] from fear.

Commentary on 106:4
( الذي أطعمهم من جوع ) أي من بعد جوع بحمل الميرة إلى مكة ( وآمنهم من خوف ) بالحرم وكونهم من أهل [ مكة ] حتى لم يتعرض لهم [ في رحلتهم ]
وقال عطاء عن ابن عباس : إنهم كانوا في ضر ومجاعة حتى جمعهم هاشم على الرحلتين ، وكانوا يقسمون ربحهم بين الفقير والغني حتى كان فقيرهم كغنيهم .
قال الكلبي : وكان أول من حمل [ السمراء ] من الشام ورحل إليها الإبل : هاشم بن عبد مناف وفيه يقول الشاعر .
قل للذي طلب السماحة والندى هلا مررت بآل عبد مناف هلا مررت بهم تريد قراهم
منعوك من ضر ومن إكفاف الرائشين وليس يوجد رائش
والقائلين هلم للأضياف والخالطين فقيرهم بغنيهم
حتى يكون فقيرهم كالكافي والقائمين بكل وعد صادق
والراحلين برحلة الإيلاف عمرو [ العلا ] هشم الثريد لقومه
ورجال مكة [ مسنتون ] عجاف سفرين سنهما له ولقومه
سفر الشتاء ورحلة الأصياف
وقال الضحاك والربيع وسفيان : " وآمنهم من خوف " من خوف الجذام ، فلا يصيبهم ببلدهم الجذام .

Quraysh
Quraysh · Meccan · 4 ayahs
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
106:1
لِإِيلَٰفِ قُرَيۡشٍ ١
For the accustomed security of the Quraysh1 -

- i.e., the honor and reputation Allāh had given them as guardians of the Holy Kaʿbah, which allowed them to travel without fear of being harmed. ↩
106:2
إِۦلَٰفِهِمۡ رِحۡلَةَ ٱلشِّتَآءِ وَٱلصَّيۡفِ ٢
Their accustomed security [in] the caravan of winter and summer1 -

- i.e., the trading caravans that traveled south in winter and north in summer. ↩
106:3
فَلۡيَعۡبُدُواْ رَبَّ هَٰذَا ٱلۡبَيۡتِ ٣
Let them worship the Lord of this House,1

سورة الماعون
Al-Ma'un
The Small kindnesses · Meccan · 7 ayahs
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
107:1
أَرَءَيۡتَ ٱلَّذِي يُكَذِّبُ بِٱلدِّينِ ١
Have you seen the one who denies the Recompense?
107:2
فَذَٰلِكَ ٱلَّذِي يَدُعُّ ٱلۡيَتِيمَ ٢
For that is the one who drives away the orphan
107:3
وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ ٣
And does not encourage the feeding of the poor.
107:4
فَوَيۡلٞ لِّلۡمُصَلِّينَ ٤
So woe to those who pray
107:5
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ عَن صَلَاتِهِمۡ سَاهُونَ ٥
[But] who are heedless of their prayer1 -

- i.e., the hypocrites who are unconcerned if they miss prayers when no one sees them. ↩
107:6
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ يُرَآءُونَ ٦
Those who make show [of their deeds]
107:7
وَيَمۡنَعُونَ ٱلۡمَاعُونَ ٧
And withhold [simple] assistance.
سورة الكوثر
Al-Kawthar
The Abundance · Meccan · 3 ayahs
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
108:1
إِنَّآ أَعۡطَيۡنَٰكَ ٱلۡكَوۡثَرَ ١
Indeed, We have granted you, [O Muḥammad], al-Kawthar.
108:2
فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَٱنۡحَرۡ ٢
So pray to your Lord and offer sacrifice [to Him alone].
108:3
إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ ٱلۡأَبۡتَرُ ٣
Indeed, your enemy is the one cut off.1
