بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Al-Ma'un 107:5

ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ عَن صَلَاتِهِمۡ سَاهُونَ ٥
[But] who are heedless of their prayer1 -

Commentary on 107:4–5
﴿فَوَيْلٌ لِلْمُصَلِّينَ﴾ ﴿الَّذِينَ هم عَنْ صَلاتِهِمْ ساهُونَ﴾ أيْ: غافِلُونَ غَيْرُ مُبالِينَ بِها حَتّى تَفُوتَهم بِالكُلِّيَّةِ أوْ يَخْرُجَ وقْتُها أوْ لا يُصْلُّونَها كَما صَلّاها رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلّى اللَّهُ تَعالى عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ والسَّلَفُ ولَكِنْ يَنْقُرُونَها نَقْرًا ولا يَخْشَعُونَ ويُنْجِدُونَ فِيها ويُتْهِمُونَ وفي كُلِّ وادٍ مِنَ الأفْكارِ الغَيْرِ المُناسِبَةِ لَها يَهِيمُونَ. فَيُسَلِّمُ أحَدُهم مِنها ولا يَدْرِي ما قَرَأ فِيها إلى غَيْرِ ذَلِكَ مِمّا يَدُلُّ عَلى قِلَّةِ المُبالاةِ بِها. ولِلسَّلَفِ أقْوالٌ كَثِيرَةٌ في المُرادِ بِهَذا السَّهْوِ، ولَعَلَّ كُلَّ ذَلِكَ مِن بابِ التَّمْثِيلِ، فَعَنْ أبِي العالِيَةِ هو الِالتِفاتُ عَنِ اليَمِينِ واليَسارِ، وعَنْ قَتادَةَ عَدَمُ مُبالاةِ المَرْءِ أصَلّى أمْ لَمْ يُصَلِّ، وعَنِ ابْنِ عَبّاسٍ وجَماعَةٍ تَأْخِيرُها عَنْ وقْتِها، وفِيهِ حَدِيثٌ أخْرَجَهُ غَيْرُ واحِدٍ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ أبِي وقّاصٍ مَرْفُوعًا وقالَ الحاكِمُ والبَيْهَقِيُّ: وقْفُهُ أصَحُّ، وعَنْ أبِي العالِيَةِ: هو أنْ لا يَدْرِيَ المَرْءُ عَنْ كَمِ انْصَرَفَ عَنْ شَفْعٍ أوْ عَنْ وتْرٍ. وفَسَّرَ بَعْضُهُمُ السَّهْوَ عَنْها بِتَرْكِها وقالَ: المُرادُ بِالمُصَلِّينَ المُتَّسِمُونَ بِسِمَةِ أهْلِ الصَّلاةِ إنْ أُرِيدَ بِالتَّرْكِ التَّرْكُ رَأْسًا وعَدَمُ الفِعْلِ بِالكُلِّيَّةِ أوِ المُصَلُّونَ في الجُمْلَةِ إنْ أُرِيدَ بِالتَّرْكِ التَّرْكُ أحْيانًا.

Quraysh
Quraysh · Meccan · 4 ayahs
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
106:1
لِإِيلَٰفِ قُرَيۡشٍ ١
For the accustomed security of the Quraysh1 -

- i.e., the honor and reputation Allāh had given them as guardians of the Holy Kaʿbah, which allowed them to travel without fear of being harmed. ↩
106:2
إِۦلَٰفِهِمۡ رِحۡلَةَ ٱلشِّتَآءِ وَٱلصَّيۡفِ ٢
Their accustomed security [in] the caravan of winter and summer1 -

- i.e., the trading caravans that traveled south in winter and north in summer. ↩
106:3
فَلۡيَعۡبُدُواْ رَبَّ هَٰذَا ٱلۡبَيۡتِ ٣
Let them worship the Lord of this House,1

106:4
ٱلَّذِيٓ أَطۡعَمَهُم مِّن جُوعٖ وَءَامَنَهُم مِّنۡ خَوۡفِۭ ٤
Who has fed them, [saving them] from hunger and made them safe, [saving them] from fear.
سورة الماعون
Al-Ma'un

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
107:1
أَرَءَيۡتَ ٱلَّذِي يُكَذِّبُ بِٱلدِّينِ ١
Have you seen the one who denies the Recompense?
107:2
فَذَٰلِكَ ٱلَّذِي يَدُعُّ ٱلۡيَتِيمَ ٢
For that is the one who drives away the orphan
107:3
وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ ٣
And does not encourage the feeding of the poor.
107:4
فَوَيۡلٞ لِّلۡمُصَلِّينَ ٤
So woe to those who pray
107:5
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ عَن صَلَاتِهِمۡ سَاهُونَ ٥
[But] who are heedless of their prayer1 -

107:6
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ يُرَآءُونَ ٦
Those who make show [of their deeds]
107:7
وَيَمۡنَعُونَ ٱلۡمَاعُونَ ٧
And withhold [simple] assistance.
سورة الكوثر
Al-Kawthar
The Abundance · Meccan · 3 ayahs
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
108:1
إِنَّآ أَعۡطَيۡنَٰكَ ٱلۡكَوۡثَرَ ١
Indeed, We have granted you, [O Muḥammad], al-Kawthar.
108:2
فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَٱنۡحَرۡ ٢
So pray to your Lord and offer sacrifice [to Him alone].
108:3
إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ ٱلۡأَبۡتَرُ ٣
Indeed, your enemy is the one cut off.1
