Al-Ma'un 107:5

ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ عَن صَلَاتِهِمۡ سَاهُونَ ٥
[But] who are heedless of their prayer1 -

Commentary on 107:5
ولَمّا كانَ الحُكْمُ إنَّما هو [عَلى ذاتِ المَوْضِعِ مِن غَيْرِ اعْتِبارٍ لِوَصْفِهِ بِالفِعْلِ عَلِمَ أنَّ المَقْصُودَ إنَّما هو -] مَن كانَ مُكَلَّفًا بِالصَّلاةِ لِأنَّ مَن كانَ مُتَلَبِّسًا بِها مِثْلَ قَوْلِهِ (p-٢٨١)ﷺ «لا يَقْبَلُ اللَّهُ صَلاةَ حائِضٍ إلّا بِخِمارٍ» فَلِذَلِكَ وصَفَهم بِقَوْلِهِ: ﴿الَّذِينَ هُمْ﴾ أيْ بِضَمائِرِهِمْ وخالِصِ سَرائِرِهِمْ. ولَمّا كانَ المُرادُ تَضْيِيعِهِمْ قالَ: ﴿عَنْ﴾ دُونَ في ﴿صَلاتِهِمْ﴾ أيْ هي جَدِيرَةٌ بِأنْ تُضافَ إلَيْهِمْ لِوُجُوبِها عَلَيْهِمْ وإيجابِها لِأجْلِ مَصالِحِهِمْ ومَنافِعِهِمْ بِالتَّزْكِيَةِ وغَيْرِها ﴿ساهُونَ﴾ أيْ عَرِيقُونَ في الغَفْلَةِ عَنْها وتَضْيِيعِها وعَدَمِ المُبالاةِ بِها وقِلَّةِ الِالتِفاتِ إلَيْها، ويُوَضِّحُ ذَلِكَ أنَّ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَرَأ ”لاهُونَ“ وفائِدَةُ التَّعْبِيرِ بِالوَصْفِ الدَّلالَةِ عَلى ثُبُوتِهِ لَهم ثُبُوتًا يُوجِبُ أنْ لا يَذْكُرُوها مِن ذاتِ أنْفُسِهِمْ أصْلًا، ولِذَلِكَ كَشَفَهُ بِما بَعْدَهُ، رَوى البَغْوِيُّ «أنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ سُئِلَ عَنِ الآيَةِ فَقالَ: ”هُوَ إضاعَةُ الوَقْتِ»“، وعَنِ ابْنِ عَبّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُما أنَّهُ قالَ: هُمُ المُنافِقُونَ يَتْرُكُونَ الصَّلاةَ إذا غابُوا ويُصَلُّونَها إذا حَضَرُوا مَعَ النّاسِ.

Quraysh
Quraysh · Meccan · 4 ayahs
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
106:1
لِإِيلَٰفِ قُرَيۡشٍ ١
For the accustomed security of the Quraysh1 -

- i.e., the honor and reputation Allāh had given them as guardians of the Holy Kaʿbah, which allowed them to travel without fear of being harmed. ↩
106:2
إِۦلَٰفِهِمۡ رِحۡلَةَ ٱلشِّتَآءِ وَٱلصَّيۡفِ ٢
Their accustomed security [in] the caravan of winter and summer1 -

- i.e., the trading caravans that traveled south in winter and north in summer. ↩
106:3
فَلۡيَعۡبُدُواْ رَبَّ هَٰذَا ٱلۡبَيۡتِ ٣
Let them worship the Lord of this House,1

106:4
ٱلَّذِيٓ أَطۡعَمَهُم مِّن جُوعٖ وَءَامَنَهُم مِّنۡ خَوۡفِۭ ٤
Who has fed them, [saving them] from hunger and made them safe, [saving them] from fear.
سورة الماعون
Al-Ma'un

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
107:1
أَرَءَيۡتَ ٱلَّذِي يُكَذِّبُ بِٱلدِّينِ ١
Have you seen the one who denies the Recompense?
107:2
فَذَٰلِكَ ٱلَّذِي يَدُعُّ ٱلۡيَتِيمَ ٢
For that is the one who drives away the orphan
107:3
وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ ٣
And does not encourage the feeding of the poor.
107:4
فَوَيۡلٞ لِّلۡمُصَلِّينَ ٤
So woe to those who pray
107:5
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ عَن صَلَاتِهِمۡ سَاهُونَ ٥
[But] who are heedless of their prayer1 -

ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ يُرَآءُونَ ٦
Those who make show [of their deeds]
107:7
وَيَمۡنَعُونَ ٱلۡمَاعُونَ ٧
And withhold [simple] assistance.
سورة الكوثر
Al-Kawthar
The Abundance · Meccan · 3 ayahs
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
108:1
إِنَّآ أَعۡطَيۡنَٰكَ ٱلۡكَوۡثَرَ ١
Indeed, We have granted you, [O Muḥammad], al-Kawthar.
108:2
فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَٱنۡحَرۡ ٢
So pray to your Lord and offer sacrifice [to Him alone].
108:3
إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ ٱلۡأَبۡتَرُ ٣
Indeed, your enemy is the one cut off.1
