إِنَّآ أَعۡطَيۡنَٰكَ ٱلۡكَوۡثَرَ ١
Indeed, We have granted you, [O Muḥammad], al-Kawthar.

Commentary on 108:1
(p-205)سُورَةُ الكَوْثَرِ
مَكِّيَّةٌ وآيُها ثَلاثٌ
﴿إنّا أعْطَيْناكَ﴾ وقُرِئَ "أنْطَيْناكَ".
﴿الكَوْثَرَ﴾ أيِ: الخَيْرُ المُفْرِطُ الكَثِيرُ مِن شَرَفِ النُّبُوَّةِ الجامِعَةِ لِخَيْرَيِ الدّارَيْنِ والرِّياسَةِ العامَّةِ المُسْتَتْبَعَةِ لِسَعادَةِ الدُّنْيا والدِّينِ، فَوَعْلٌ مِنَ الكَثْرَةِ، وقِيلَ: هو نَهْرٌ في الجَنَّةِ، «وَعَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أنَّهُ قَرَأها فَقالَ: "أتَدْرُونَ ما الكَوْثَرُ؟ إنَّهُ نَهْرٌ في الجَنَّةِ وعَدَنِيهِ رَبِّي،» فِيهِ خَيْرٌ كَثِيرٌ"، ورُوِيَ في صِفَتِهِ أنَّهُ أحْلى مِنَ العَسَلِ، وأشَدُّ بَياضًا مِنَ اللَّبَنِ، وأبْرَدُ مِنَ الثَّلْجِ، وألْيَنُ مِنَ الزُّبْدِ، حافَّتاهُ الزَّبَرْجَدُ، وأوانِيهِ مِن فِضَّةٍ عَدَدَ نُجُومِ السَّماءِ، ورُوِيَ: لا يَظْمَأُ مَن شَرِبَ مِنهُ أبَدًا، أوَّلُ وارِدِيهِ فُقَراءُ المُهاجِرِينَ الدَّنِسُو الثِّيابِ الشُّعْثُ الرُّءوسِ، الَّذِينَ لا يُزَوَّجُونَ المُنَعَّماتِ، ولا تُفْتَحُ لَهم أبْوابُ السُّدَدِ، يَمُوتُ أحَدُهم وحاجَتُهُ تَتَلَجْلَجُ في صَدْرِهِ لَوْ أقْسَمَ عَلى اللَّهِ لِأبَرَّهُ؛ وعَنِ ابْنِ عَبّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُما أنَّهُ فَسَّرَ الكَوْثَرَ بِالخَيْرِ الكَثِيرِ فَقالَ لَهُ سَعِيدُ بْنُ جُبَيْرٍ: فَإنَّ ناسًا يَقُولُونَ: هو نَهْرٌ في الجَنَّةِ، فَقالَ: هو مِنَ الخَيْرِ الكَثِيرِ، وقِيلَ: هو حَوْضٌ فِيها، وقِيلَ: هو وأوْلادُهُ وأتْباعُهُ، أوْ عُلَماءُ أُمَّتِهِ، أوِ القرآن الحاوِي لِخَيْرِ الدُّنْيا والدِّينِ.

سورة قريش
Quraysh
Quraysh · Meccan · 4 ayahs
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
106:1
لِإِيلَٰفِ قُرَيۡشٍ ١
For the accustomed security of the Quraysh1 -

- i.e., the honor and reputation Allāh had given them as guardians of the Holy Kaʿbah, which allowed them to travel without fear of being harmed. ↩
106:2
إِۦلَٰفِهِمۡ رِحۡلَةَ ٱلشِّتَآءِ وَٱلصَّيۡفِ ٢
Their accustomed security [in] the caravan of winter and summer1 -

- i.e., the trading caravans that traveled south in winter and north in summer. ↩
106:3
فَلۡيَعۡبُدُواْ رَبَّ هَٰذَا ٱلۡبَيۡتِ ٣
Let them worship the Lord of this House,1

106:4
ٱلَّذِيٓ أَطۡعَمَهُم مِّن جُوعٖ وَءَامَنَهُم مِّنۡ خَوۡفِۭ ٤
Who has fed them, [saving them] from hunger and made them safe, [saving them] from fear.
سورة الماعون
Al-Ma'un
The Small kindnesses · Meccan · 7 ayahs
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
107:1
أَرَءَيۡتَ ٱلَّذِي يُكَذِّبُ بِٱلدِّينِ ١
Have you seen the one who denies the Recompense?
107:2
فَذَٰلِكَ ٱلَّذِي يَدُعُّ ٱلۡيَتِيمَ ٢
For that is the one who drives away the orphan
107:3
وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ ٣
And does not encourage the feeding of the poor.
107:4
فَوَيۡلٞ لِّلۡمُصَلِّينَ ٤
So woe to those who pray
107:5
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ عَن صَلَاتِهِمۡ سَاهُونَ ٥
[But] who are heedless of their prayer1 -

- i.e., the hypocrites who are unconcerned if they miss prayers when no one sees them. ↩
107:6
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ يُرَآءُونَ ٦
Those who make show [of their deeds]
107:7
وَيَمۡنَعُونَ ٱلۡمَاعُونَ ٧
And withhold [simple] assistance.
سورة الكوثر
Al-Kawthar

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
108:1
إِنَّآ أَعۡطَيۡنَٰكَ ٱلۡكَوۡثَرَ ١
Indeed, We have granted you, [O Muḥammad], al-Kawthar.
108:2
فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَٱنۡحَرۡ ٢
So pray to your Lord and offer sacrifice [to Him alone].
108:3
إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ ٱلۡأَبۡتَرُ ٣
Indeed, your enemy is the one cut off.1
