وَكَذَٰلِكَ أَخۡذُ رَبِّكَ إِذَآ أَخَذَ ٱلۡقُرَىٰ وَهِيَ ظَٰلِمَةٌۚ إِنَّ أَخۡذَهُۥٓ أَلِيمٞ شَدِيدٌ ١٠٢
And thus is the seizure of your Lord when He seizes the cities while they are committing wrong. Indeed, His seizure is painful and severe.

Commentary on 11:102
قوله تعالى : وكذلك أخذ ربك إذا أخذ القرى أي كما أخذ هذه القرى التي كانت لنوح وعاد وثمود يأخذ جميع القرى الظالمة . وقرأ عاصم الجحدري وطلحة بن مصرف " وكذلك أخذ ربك إذ أخذ القرى " وعن الجحدري أيضا وكذلك أخذ ربك كالجماعة " إذ أخذ القرى " . قال المهدوي من قرأ : " وكذلك أخذ ربك إذ أخذ " فهو إخبار عما جاءت [ ص: 85 ] به العادة في إهلاك من تقدم من الأمم ; والمعنى : وكذلك أخذ ربك من أخذه من الأمم المهلكة إذ أخذهم . وقراءة الجماعة على أنه مصدر ; والمعنى : كذلك أخذ ربك من أراد إهلاكه متى أخذه ; فإذ لما مضى ; أي حين أخذ القرى ; وإذا للمستقبلوهي ظالمة أي وأهلها ظالمون ; فحذف المضاف مثل : واسأل القرية .إن أخذه أليم شديد أي عقوبته لأهل الشرك موجعة غليظة . وفي صحيح مسلم والترمذي من حديث أبي موسى أن رسول الله - صلى الله عليه وسلم - قال : إن الله تعالى يملي للظالم حتى إذا أخذه لم يفلته ثم قرأ وكذلك أخذ ربك إذا أخذ القرى الآية . قال أبو عيسى : هذا حديث حسن صحيح غريب .

11:98
يَقۡدُمُ قَوۡمَهُۥ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ فَأَوۡرَدَهُمُ ٱلنَّارَۖ وَبِئۡسَ ٱلۡوِرۡدُ ٱلۡمَوۡرُودُ ٩٨
He will precede his people on the Day of Resurrection and lead them into the Fire; and wretched is the place to which they are led.
11:99
وَأُتۡبِعُواْ فِي هَٰذِهِۦ لَعۡنَةٗ وَيَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِۚ بِئۡسَ ٱلرِّفۡدُ ٱلۡمَرۡفُودُ ٩٩
And they were followed in this [world] with a curse and on the Day of Resurrection. And wretched is the gift1 which is given.

11:100
ذَٰلِكَ مِنۡ أَنۢبَآءِ ٱلۡقُرَىٰ نَقُصُّهُۥ عَلَيۡكَۖ مِنۡهَا قَآئِمٞ وَحَصِيدٞ ١٠٠
That is from the news of the cities, which We relate to you; of them, some are [still] standing and some are [as] a harvest [mowed down].1

11:101
وَمَا ظَلَمۡنَٰهُمۡ وَلَٰكِن ظَلَمُوٓاْ أَنفُسَهُمۡۖ فَمَآ أَغۡنَتۡ عَنۡهُمۡ ءَالِهَتُهُمُ ٱلَّتِي يَدۡعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مِن شَيۡءٖ لَّمَّا جَآءَ أَمۡرُ رَبِّكَۖ وَمَا زَادُوهُمۡ غَيۡرَ تَتۡبِيبٖ ١٠١
And We did not wrong them, but they wronged themselves. And they were not availed at all by their gods which they invoked other than Allāh when there came the command of your Lord. And they did not increase them in other than ruin.
11:102
وَكَذَٰلِكَ أَخۡذُ رَبِّكَ إِذَآ أَخَذَ ٱلۡقُرَىٰ وَهِيَ ظَٰلِمَةٌۚ إِنَّ أَخۡذَهُۥٓ أَلِيمٞ شَدِيدٌ ١٠٢

11:103
إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَةٗ لِّمَنۡ خَافَ عَذَابَ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِۚ ذَٰلِكَ يَوۡمٞ مَّجۡمُوعٞ لَّهُ ٱلنَّاسُ وَذَٰلِكَ يَوۡمٞ مَّشۡهُودٞ ١٠٣
Indeed in that is a sign for those who fear the punishment of the Hereafter. That is a Day for which the people will be collected, and that is a Day [which will be] witnessed.
11:104
وَمَا نُؤَخِّرُهُۥٓ إِلَّا لِأَجَلٖ مَّعۡدُودٖ ١٠٤
And We do not delay it except for a limited term.
11:105
يَوۡمَ يَأۡتِ لَا تَكَلَّمُ نَفۡسٌ إِلَّا بِإِذۡنِهِۦۚ فَمِنۡهُمۡ شَقِيّٞ وَسَعِيدٞ ١٠٥
The Day it comes no soul will speak except by His permission. And among them will be the wretched and the prosperous.
11:106
فَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ شَقُواْ فَفِي ٱلنَّارِ لَهُمۡ فِيهَا زَفِيرٞ وَشَهِيقٌ ١٠٦
As for those who were [destined to be] wretched, they will be in the Fire. For them therein is [violent] exhaling and inhaling.1

11:107
خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا مَا دَامَتِ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتُ وَٱلۡأَرۡضُ إِلَّا مَا شَآءَ رَبُّكَۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ فَعَّالٞ لِّمَا يُرِيدُ ١٠٧
[They will be] abiding therein as long as the heavens and the earth endure, except what your Lord should will. Indeed, your Lord is an effecter of what He intends.
11:108
۞ وَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ سُعِدُواْ فَفِي ٱلۡجَنَّةِ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا مَا دَامَتِ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتُ وَٱلۡأَرۡضُ إِلَّا مَا شَآءَ رَبُّكَۖ عَطَآءً غَيۡرَ مَجۡذُوذٖ ١٠٨
And as for those who were [destined to be] prosperous, they will be in Paradise, abiding therein as long as the heavens and the earth endure, except what your Lord should will - a bestowal uninterrupted.
