May the hands of Abū Lahab be ruined, and ruined is he.1

(p-٦٩١)سُورَةُ "اَلْمَسَدِ"
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَحْمَنِ الرَحِيمِ
﴿تَبَّتْ يَدا أبِي لَهَبٍ﴾، "اَلتَّبابُ": اَلْهَلاكُ، ومِنهُ قَوْلُهُمْ: "أشابَّةٌ أمْ تابَّةٌ؟"، أيْ: هالِكَةٌ مِنَ الهَرَمِ، والمَعْنى: هَلَكَتْ يَداهُ، لِأنَّهُ - فِيما يُرْوى - أخَذَ حَجَرًا لِيَرْمِيَ بِهِ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ،
﴿وَتَبَّ﴾، وهَلَكَ كُلُّهُ، أوْ جُعِلَتْ يَداهُ هالِكَتَيْنِ، والمُرادُ: هَلاكُ جُمْلَتِهِ، كَقَوْلِهِ: ﴿بِما قَدَّمَتْ يَداكَ﴾ [الحج: ١٠]، ومَعْنى "وَتَبَّ": وكانَ ذَلِكَ، وحَصَلَ، كَقَوْلِهِ:
جَزانِي جَزاهُ اللهُ شَرَّ جَزائِهِ... جَزاءَ الكِلابِ العاوِياتِ وقَدْ فَعَلْ
وَقَدْ دَلَّتْ عَلَيْهِ قِراءَةُ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ -: "وَقَدْ تَبَّ"، رُوِيَ أنَّهُ «لَمّا نَزَلَ ﴿وَأنْذِرْ عَشِيرَتَكَ الأقْرَبِينَ﴾ [الشعراء: ٢١٤]، رَقى الصَفا، وقالَ: "يا صَباحاهُ"، فاسْتُجْمِعَ إلَيْهِ الناسُ مِن كُلِّ أوْبٍ، فَقالَ ﷺ: "يا بَنِي عَبْدَ المُطَّلِبِ، يا بَنِي فِهْرٍ، إنْ أخْبَرْتُكم أنَّ بِسَفْحِ هَذا الجَبَلِ خَيْلًا، أكُنْتُمْ مُصَدِّقِيَّ؟"، قالُوا: نَعَمْ، قالَ: "فَإنِّي نَذِيرٌ لَكم بَيْنَ يَدَيِ الساعَةِ"، فَقالَ أبُو لَهَبٍ: تَبًّا لَكَ، ألِهَذا دَعَوْتَنا؟! » فَنَزَلَتْ، وإنَّما كَنّاهُ (p-٦٩٢)- والتَكْنِيَةُ تَكْرِمَةٌ - لِاشْتِهارِهِ بِها، دُونَ الِاسْمِ، أوْ لِكَراهَةِ اسْمِهِ، فاسْمُهُ " عَبْدُ العُزّى "، أوْ لِأنَّ مَآلَهُ إلى نارٍ ذاتِ لَهَبٍ، فَوافَقَتْ حالُهُ كُنْيَتَهُ، "أبِي لَهْبٍ"، "مَكِّيٌّ".

سورة الكافرون
Al-Kafirun
The Disbelievers · Meccan · 6 ayahs
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
109:1
قُلۡ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلۡكَٰفِرُونَ ١
Say, "O disbelievers,
109:2
لَآ أَعۡبُدُ مَا تَعۡبُدُونَ ٢
I do not worship what you worship.
109:3
وَلَآ أَنتُمۡ عَٰبِدُونَ مَآ أَعۡبُدُ ٣
Nor are you worshippers of what I worship.
109:4
وَلَآ أَنَا۠ عَابِدٞ مَّا عَبَدتُّمۡ ٤
Nor will I be a worshipper of what you worship.
109:5
وَلَآ أَنتُمۡ عَٰبِدُونَ مَآ أَعۡبُدُ ٥
Nor will you be worshippers of what I worship.
109:6
لَكُمۡ دِينُكُمۡ وَلِيَ دِينِ ٦
For you is your religion, and for me is my religion."
سورة النصر
An-Nasr
The Divine Support · Medinan · 3 ayahs
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
110:1
إِذَا جَآءَ نَصۡرُ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡفَتۡحُ ١
When the victory of Allāh has come and the conquest,1

وَرَأَيۡتَ ٱلنَّاسَ يَدۡخُلُونَ فِي دِينِ ٱللَّهِ أَفۡوَاجٗا ٢
And you see the people entering into the religion of Allāh in multitudes,
110:3
فَسَبِّحۡ بِحَمۡدِ رَبِّكَ وَٱسۡتَغۡفِرۡهُۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ تَوَّابَۢا ٣
Then exalt [Him] with praise of your Lord and ask forgiveness of Him. Indeed, He is ever Accepting of Repentance.1

سورة المسد
Al-Masad

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
111:1
تَبَّتۡ يَدَآ أَبِي لَهَبٖ وَتَبَّ ١
May the hands of Abū Lahab be ruined, and ruined is he.1

مَآ أَغۡنَىٰ عَنۡهُ مَالُهُۥ وَمَا كَسَبَ ٢
His wealth will not avail him or that which he gained.
111:3
سَيَصۡلَىٰ نَارٗا ذَاتَ لَهَبٖ ٣
He will [enter to] burn in a Fire of [blazing] flame
111:4
وَٱمۡرَأَتُهُۥ حَمَّالَةَ ٱلۡحَطَبِ ٤
And his wife [as well] - the carrier of firewood.1

- She used to put thorns in the Prophet's path and slander him (ﷺ) . The word "firewood" was used by the Arabs to allude to slander and backbiting. ↩
111:5
فِي جِيدِهَا حَبۡلٞ مِّن مَّسَدِۭ ٥
Around her neck is a rope of [twisted] fiber.
