وَٱلَّذِينَ يَصِلُونَ مَآ أَمَرَ ٱللَّهُ بِهِۦٓ أَن يُوصَلَ وَيَخۡشَوۡنَ رَبَّهُمۡ وَيَخَافُونَ سُوٓءَ ٱلۡحِسَابِ ٢١
And those who join that which Allāh has ordered to be joined1 and fear their Lord and are afraid of the evil of [their] account,

Commentary on 13:19–25
وقوله سبحانه: أَفَمَنْ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّما أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْكَ مِنْ رَبِّكَ الْحَقُّ كَمَنْ هُوَ أَعْمى ...
المعنى: أسواءٌ مَنْ هداه اللَّه، فَعَلِمَ صدْقَ نبوَّتك، وآمن بك كمن هو أعمَى البصيرةِ باقٍ على كُفْره روي أنَّ هذه الآية نزلَتْ في حمزةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ المطَّلب، وأَبِي جَهْل، وهي بَعْدَ هذا مثَالٌ في جميع العالم، إِنَّما يَتَذَكَّرُ أُولُوا الْأَلْبابِ: «إِنما» في هذه الآية: حاصرة، أي: إِنما يتذكَّر، فيؤمن ويراقب اللَّه مَنْ له لُبٌّ، ثم أخذ في وصفهم، فقال: الَّذِينَ يُوفُونَ بِعَهْدِ اللَّهِ ... الآية: قال الثعلبيُّ: قال عبد اللَّهِ بنُ المبارَكِ: هذه ثمانِ خِلاَلٍ مسيِّرةٌ إِلى ثمانيةِ أبوابِ الجنةِ [[ذكره البغوي (3/ 16) .]] ، وقال أبو بَكْرٍ الوَرَّاقُ: هذه ثمانِ جُسُورٍ، فمن أراد القربة مِنَ اللَّه عَبَرَهَا. انتهى. وباقي الآية ألفاظها واضحَة، وأنوارها لِذَوِي البصائر لائحة.
وَيَدْرَؤُنَ: يدفعون.
قال الغَزَالِيُّ: لما ذَكَرَ هذه الآيةَ: والذي آثر غُرُورَ الدنيا على نعيمِ الآخرةِ، فليس من ذوي الأَلْبَابِ، ولذلك لا تَنْكَشِفُ له أَسْرارُ الكتاب، انتهى.
وجَنَّاتُ: بدل من عُقْبَى وتفسير لها، وعَدْنٍ: هي مدينةُ الجَنَّة ووَسَطُها، ومعناها: جنَّات الإِقامة مِنْ عَدَنَ في المَكَانِ، إِذا أقام فيه طويلا، ومنه المعادن، وجَنَّاتُ عَدْنٍ: يقال: هي مَسْكن الأنبياءِ والشُّهَداء والعُلَماء فَقَطْ قاله عبد اللَّه بن عمرو بن العاص [[أخرجه الطبري (7/ 376) برقم: (20341) ، وذكره ابن عطية (3/ 310) ، وابن كثير في «تفسيره» (2/ 150) .]] ، ويروَى أَنَّ لها خَمْسَةَ آلافِ باب، وقوله: وَمَنْ صَلَحَ: أي: عمل صالحاً، وَالْمَلائِكَةُ يَدْخُلُونَ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنْ كُلِّ بابٍ سَلامٌ عَلَيْكُمْ: أي: يقولون: سَلاَمٌ عَلَيْكُمْ، والمعنى: هذا بما صَبَرْتُم، وباقي الآية واضحٌ.
وقوله سبحانه: وَالَّذِينَ يَنْقُضُونَ عَهْدَ اللَّهِ ... الآية: هذه صفةُ حالٍ مضادَّةٍ للمتقدّمة- نعوذ بالله من سخطه-.

13:19
۞ أَفَمَن يَعۡلَمُ أَنَّمَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيۡكَ مِن رَّبِّكَ ٱلۡحَقُّ كَمَنۡ هُوَ أَعۡمَىٰٓۚ إِنَّمَا يَتَذَكَّرُ أُوْلُواْ ٱلۡأَلۡبَٰبِ ١٩
Then is he who knows that what has been revealed to you from your Lord is the truth like one who is blind? They will only be reminded who are people of understanding -
13:20
ٱلَّذِينَ يُوفُونَ بِعَهۡدِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا يَنقُضُونَ ٱلۡمِيثَٰقَ ٢٠
Those who fulfill the covenant of Allāh and do not break the contract,
13:21
وَٱلَّذِينَ يَصِلُونَ مَآ أَمَرَ ٱللَّهُ بِهِۦٓ أَن يُوصَلَ وَيَخۡشَوۡنَ رَبَّهُمۡ وَيَخَافُونَ سُوٓءَ ٱلۡحِسَابِ ٢١
And those who join that which Allāh has ordered to be joined1 and fear their Lord and are afraid of the evil of [their] account,

13:22
وَٱلَّذِينَ صَبَرُواْ ٱبۡتِغَآءَ وَجۡهِ رَبِّهِمۡ وَأَقَامُواْ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَأَنفَقُواْ مِمَّا رَزَقۡنَٰهُمۡ سِرّٗا وَعَلَانِيَةٗ وَيَدۡرَءُونَ بِٱلۡحَسَنَةِ ٱلسَّيِّئَةَ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمۡ عُقۡبَى ٱلدَّارِ ٢٢
And those who are patient, seeking the face [i.e., acceptance] of their Lord, and establish prayer and spend from what We have provided for them secretly and publicly and prevent evil with good - those will have the good consequence of [this] home1 -

13:23
جَنَّٰتُ عَدۡنٖ يَدۡخُلُونَهَا وَمَن صَلَحَ مِنۡ ءَابَآئِهِمۡ وَأَزۡوَٰجِهِمۡ وَذُرِّيَّٰتِهِمۡۖ وَٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ يَدۡخُلُونَ عَلَيۡهِم مِّن كُلِّ بَابٖ ٢٣
Gardens of perpetual residence; they will enter them with whoever were righteous among their forefathers, their spouses and their descendants. And the angels will enter upon them from every gate, [saying],
13:24
سَلَٰمٌ عَلَيۡكُم بِمَا صَبَرۡتُمۡۚ فَنِعۡمَ عُقۡبَى ٱلدَّارِ ٢٤
"Peace [i.e., security] be upon you for what you patiently endured." And excellent is the final home.
13:25
وَٱلَّذِينَ يَنقُضُونَ عَهۡدَ ٱللَّهِ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مِيثَٰقِهِۦ وَيَقۡطَعُونَ مَآ أَمَرَ ٱللَّهُ بِهِۦٓ أَن يُوصَلَ وَيُفۡسِدُونَ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمُ ٱللَّعۡنَةُ وَلَهُمۡ سُوٓءُ ٱلدَّارِ ٢٥
But those who break the covenant of Allāh after contracting it and sever that which Allāh has ordered to be joined and spread corruption on earth - for them is the curse, and they will have the worst home.1

13:26
ٱللَّهُ يَبۡسُطُ ٱلرِّزۡقَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَقۡدِرُۚ وَفَرِحُواْ بِٱلۡحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡيَا وَمَا ٱلۡحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنۡيَا فِي ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ إِلَّا مَتَٰعٞ ٢٦
Allāh extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]. And they rejoice in the worldly life, while the worldly life is not, compared to the Hereafter, except [brief] enjoyment.
13:27
وَيَقُولُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ لَوۡلَآ أُنزِلَ عَلَيۡهِ ءَايَةٞ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦۚ قُلۡ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُضِلُّ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهۡدِيٓ إِلَيۡهِ مَنۡ أَنَابَ ٢٧
And those who disbelieved say, "Why has a sign not been sent down to him from his Lord?" Say, [O Muḥammad], "Indeed, Allāh leaves astray whom He wills and guides to Himself whoever turns back [to Him] -
13:28
ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَتَطۡمَئِنُّ قُلُوبُهُم بِذِكۡرِ ٱللَّهِۗ أَلَا بِذِكۡرِ ٱللَّهِ تَطۡمَئِنُّ ٱلۡقُلُوبُ ٢٨
Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allāh. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allāh hearts are assured."
