Commentary on 15:95–96

The people who have been referred to in the verse: (Surely, We are sufficient for you against those who deride - 95) their ring leaders were five in number: (1) Al-` As ibn Wa’ il (2) Aswad ibn al-Muttalib (3) Aswad ibn ` Abd Yaghuth (4) Walid ibn Mughirah (5) Harith ibn Talhah. They were killed simultaneously and miraculously when signalled by Sayyidna Jibra'il (علیہ السلام) .

This event provides a guideline in matters of Tabligh and Da'wah. In places and under circumstances where a worker in the way of Allah sees no good coming out of saying what is true and right openly, rather apprehends harm coming to him in doing so, then, under such conditions, doing so secretly is also correct and permissible. However, when there is the option and ability to proclaim things openly, then, no delay should be made in taking a public stance.

15:91

Who have made the Qur’ān into portions.1

  1. Accepting part and rejecting part according to their own inclinations. ↩

15:92

So by your Lord, We will surely question them all

About what they used to do.

15:94

Then declare what you are commanded1 and turn away from the polytheists.2

2 translator’s notes
  1. The implication is "Thereby you will distinguish or separate the disbelievers from the believers."

[688] Any who persist in association of others with Allāh.

    ↩
  2. ↩

15:95

Indeed, We are sufficient for you against the mockers

15:96

Who make [equal] with Allāh another deity. But they are going to know.

15:97

And We already know that your breast is constrained by what they say.

15:98

So exalt [Allāh] with praise of your Lord and be of those who prostrate [to Him].

15:99

An-Nahl

The Bee · Meccan · 128 ayahs

The command of Allāh is coming,1 so be not impatient for it. Exalted is He and high above what they associate with Him.

1 translator’s note
  1. Literally, "has come," indicating the certainty and nearness of the Last Hour. ↩

16:2

He sends down the angels, with the inspiration [i.e., revelation] of His command, upon whom He wills of His servants, [telling them], "Warn that there is no deity except Me; so fear Me."

16:3

He created the heavens and earth in truth. High is He above what they associate with Him.

16:4

He created man from a sperm-drop; then at once1 he is a clear adversary.

1 translator’s note
  1. As soon as he becomes strong and independent. ↩

16:5

And the grazing livestock He has created for you; in them is warmth1 and [numerous] benefits, and from them you eat.

1 translator’s note
  1. i.e., in clothing, tents, furnishings, etc. ↩

16:6

And for you in them is [the enjoyment of] beauty when you bring them in [for the evening] and when you send them out [to pasture].
