وَلِلَّهِۤ يَسۡجُدُۤ مَا فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مِن دَآبَّةٖ وَٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ وَهُمۡ لَا يَسۡتَكۡبِرُونَ ٤٩
And to Allāh prostrates whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth of creatures, and the angels [as well], and they are not arrogant.

Commentary on 16:49
(ولله) وحده لا لغيره (يسجد) أي يخضع وينقاد والسجود على نوعين: سجود طاعة وعبادة وسجود إنقياد وخضوع كسجود الإنسان وسجود الظلال والآية تحتمل النوعين (ما في السماوات) جميعاً (وما في الأرض من دابة) أي حيوان جسماني ونسمة تدب وتتحرك على الأرض والمراد به كل دابة: قال الأخفش هو كقولك ما أتاني من رجل مثله وما أتاني من الرجال مثله.
وقد دخل في عموم ما فيهما جميع الأشياء الموجودة فيهما، قال قتادة: لم يدع شيئاً من خلقه إلا عبده له طائعاً أو كارهاً، وعن الحسن قال: يسجد من في السماوات طوعاً ومن في الأرض طوعاً وكرهاً وإنما خص الدابة بالذكر لأنه قد علم من قوله أو لم يروا إلى ما خلق الله من شيء انقياد الجمادات ومن بيانية بياناً لما في الشقين أو بيانا لما الثانية فقط.
(و) عطف (الملائكة) على ما قبلهم عطف خاص على عام تشريفاً لهم وتعظيماً لدخولهم في المعطوف عليه، وقيل أفرد الملائكة لأنهم أولو أجنحة يطيرون بها أو تكون في السماء خلق يدبون (وهم) أي والحال أنهم (لا يستكبرون) عن عبادة ربهم، والمراد الملائكة ويحتمل أن تكون الجملة مستأنفة وفي هذا رد على قريش حيث زعموا أن الملائكة بنات الله، والمعنى يسجد لله ما في السماوات وما في الأرض والملائكة وهم جميعاً لا يستكبرون عن السجود.

16:43
وَمَآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مِن قَبۡلِكَ إِلَّا رِجَالٗا نُّوحِيٓ إِلَيۡهِمۡۖ فَسۡـَٔلُوٓاْ أَهۡلَ ٱلذِّكۡرِ إِن كُنتُمۡ لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ ٤٣
And We sent not before you except men to whom We revealed [Our message]. So ask the people of the message [i.e., former scriptures] if you do not know.
16:44
بِٱلۡبَيِّنَٰتِ وَٱلزُّبُرِۗ وَأَنزَلۡنَآ إِلَيۡكَ ٱلذِّكۡرَ لِتُبَيِّنَ لِلنَّاسِ مَا نُزِّلَ إِلَيۡهِمۡ وَلَعَلَّهُمۡ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ ٤٤
[We sent them] with clear proofs and written ordinances. And We revealed to you the message [i.e., the Qur’ān] that you may make clear to the people what was sent down to them and that they might give thought.
16:45
أَفَأَمِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ مَكَرُواْ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ أَن يَخۡسِفَ ٱللَّهُ بِهِمُ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ أَوۡ يَأۡتِيَهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُ مِنۡ حَيۡثُ لَا يَشۡعُرُونَ ٤٥
Then, do those who have planned evil deeds feel secure that Allāh will not cause the earth to swallow them or that the punishment will not come upon them from where they do not perceive?
16:46
أَوۡ يَأۡخُذَهُمۡ فِي تَقَلُّبِهِمۡ فَمَا هُم بِمُعۡجِزِينَ ٤٦
Or that He would not seize them during their [usual] activity, and they could not cause failure [i.e., escape from Him]?
16:47
أَوۡ يَأۡخُذَهُمۡ عَلَىٰ تَخَوُّفٖ فَإِنَّ رَبَّكُمۡ لَرَءُوفٞ رَّحِيمٌ ٤٧
Or that He would not seize them gradually [in a state of dread]?1 But indeed, your Lord is Kind and Merciful.2
16:48
أَوَلَمۡ يَرَوۡاْ إِلَىٰ مَا خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ مِن شَيۡءٖ يَتَفَيَّؤُاْ ظِلَٰلُهُۥ عَنِ ٱلۡيَمِينِ وَٱلشَّمَآئِلِ سُجَّدٗا لِّلَّهِ وَهُمۡ دَٰخِرُونَ ٤٨
Have they not considered what things Allāh has created? Their shadows incline to the right and to the left, prostrating to Allāh, while they [i.e., those creations] are humble.
16:49
وَلِلَّهِۤ يَسۡجُدُۤ مَا فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مِن دَآبَّةٖ وَٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ وَهُمۡ لَا يَسۡتَكۡبِرُونَ ٤٩
And to Allāh prostrates whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth of creatures, and the angels [as well], and they are not arrogant.
16:50
يَخَافُونَ رَبَّهُم مِّن فَوۡقِهِمۡ وَيَفۡعَلُونَ مَا يُؤۡمَرُونَ۩ ٥٠
They fear their Lord above them, and they do what they are commanded.
16:51
۞ وَقَالَ ٱللَّهُ لَا تَتَّخِذُوٓاْ إِلَٰهَيۡنِ ٱثۡنَيۡنِۖ إِنَّمَا هُوَ إِلَٰهٞ وَٰحِدٞ فَإِيَّٰيَ فَٱرۡهَبُونِ ٥١
And Allāh has said, "Do not take for yourselves two1 deities. He [i.e., Allāh] is but one God, so fear only Me."

16:52
وَلَهُۥ مَا فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَهُ ٱلدِّينُ وَاصِبًاۚ أَفَغَيۡرَ ٱللَّهِ تَتَّقُونَ ٥٢
And to Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth, and to Him is [due] worship constantly. Then is it other than Allāh that you fear?
16:53
وَمَا بِكُم مِّن نِّعۡمَةٖ فَمِنَ ٱللَّهِۖ ثُمَّ إِذَا مَسَّكُمُ ٱلضُّرُّ فَإِلَيۡهِ تَجۡـَٔرُونَ ٥٣
And whatever you have of favor - it is from Allāh. Then when adversity touches you, to Him you cry for help.
16:54
ثُمَّ إِذَا كَشَفَ ٱلضُّرَّ عَنكُمۡ إِذَا فَرِيقٞ مِّنكُم بِرَبِّهِمۡ يُشۡرِكُونَ ٥٤
Then when He removes the adversity from you, at once a party of you associates others with their Lord
