وَيَعۡبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا يَمۡلِكُ لَهُمۡ رِزۡقٗا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ شَيۡـٔٗا وَلَا يَسۡتَطِيعُونَ ٧٣
And they worship besides Allāh that which does not possess for them [the power of] provision from the heavens and the earth at all, and [in fact], they are unable.

Commentary on 16:73
والمراد بقوله سبحانه : ( وَيَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ الله . . . . . ) كل معبود سوى الله - تعالى - من صنم أو وثن أو غير ذلك من المعبودات الباطلة .والجملة الكريمة داخلة تحت مضمون الاستفهام الانكارى ، ومعطوفة عليه : وهو قوله - تعالى - : ( أفبالباطل يُؤْمِنُونَ وَبِنِعْمَتِ الله هُمْ يَكْفُرُونَ ) أى أن هؤلاء الجاحدين لنعم الله - تعالى - ، بلغ من جهالتهم وسفاهاتهم أنهم يؤمنون بالباطل ، ويكفرون بالحق ، ويعبدون من دون الله - تعالى - أصناما وأوثانا لا تملك لعابدها أى شئ من الرزق فهى لا تنزل مطرا من السماء ولا تخرج نباتا من الأرض ، ولا تستطيع أن تنفع أو تضر . .و " ما " فى قوله - تعالى - ( مَا لاَ يَمْلِكُ . . ) كناية عن معبوداتهم الباطلة فهى مفردة لفظا ، مجموعة معنى .والتنكير فى قوله - سبحانه - ( رزقا ) للاشعار بقلته وتفاهته ، وأن معبوداتهم لا تملك لهم أى شئ من الرزق ، حتى ولو كان تافها حقيرا .وقوله : ( شيئا ) منصوب على المصدر ، أى : ويعبدون من دون الله ما لا يملك لهم ملكا ، أى : شيئا من الملك .والضمير فى قوله ( ولا يستطيعون ) يعود إلى ( ما ) وجمع بصيغة العقلاء بناء على زعمهم الفاسد ، من أن هذه الأصنام فى إمكانها النفع والضر .وجاءت جملة ( ولا يستطيعون ) بعد قوله - تعالى - ( مَا لاَ يَمْلِكُ لَهُمْ رِزْقاً مِّنَ السماوات والأرض . . ) لتأكيد عجز هذه المعبودات عن فعل أى شئ فهى لا تملك شيئا ، وليس فى استطاعتها أن تملك لأنها ليست أهلا لذلك .

16:73
وَيَعۡبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا يَمۡلِكُ لَهُمۡ رِزۡقٗا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ شَيۡـٔٗا وَلَا يَسۡتَطِيعُونَ ٧٣

16:74
فَلَا تَضۡرِبُواْ لِلَّهِ ٱلۡأَمۡثَالَۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَعۡلَمُ وَأَنتُمۡ لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ ٧٤
So do not assert similarities to Allāh.1 Indeed, Allāh knows and you do not know.

16:75
۞ ضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلًا عَبۡدٗا مَّمۡلُوكٗا لَّا يَقۡدِرُ عَلَىٰ شَيۡءٖ وَمَن رَّزَقۡنَٰهُ مِنَّا رِزۡقًا حَسَنٗا فَهُوَ يُنفِقُ مِنۡهُ سِرّٗا وَجَهۡرًاۖ هَلۡ يَسۡتَوُۥنَۚ ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِۚ بَلۡ أَكۡثَرُهُمۡ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ ٧٥
Allāh presents an example: a slave [who is] owned and unable to do a thing and he to whom We have provided from Us good provision, so he spends from it secretly and publicly. Can they be equal? Praise to Allāh! But most of them do not know.
16:76
وَضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلٗا رَّجُلَيۡنِ أَحَدُهُمَآ أَبۡكَمُ لَا يَقۡدِرُ عَلَىٰ شَيۡءٖ وَهُوَ كَلٌّ عَلَىٰ مَوۡلَىٰهُ أَيۡنَمَا يُوَجِّههُّ لَا يَأۡتِ بِخَيۡرٍ هَلۡ يَسۡتَوِي هُوَ وَمَن يَأۡمُرُ بِٱلۡعَدۡلِ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ صِرَٰطٖ مُّسۡتَقِيمٖ ٧٦
And Allāh presents an example of two men, one of them dumb and unable to do a thing, while he is a burden to his guardian. Wherever he directs him, he brings no good. Is he equal to one who commands justice, while he is on a straight path?
16:77
وَلِلَّهِ غَيۡبُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ وَمَآ أَمۡرُ ٱلسَّاعَةِ إِلَّا كَلَمۡحِ ٱلۡبَصَرِ أَوۡ هُوَ أَقۡرَبُۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيۡءٖ قَدِيرٞ ٧٧
And to Allāh belongs the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth. And the command for the Hour is not but as a glance of the eye or even nearer. Indeed, Allāh is over all things competent.
16:78
وَٱللَّهُ أَخۡرَجَكُم مِّنۢ بُطُونِ أُمَّهَٰتِكُمۡ لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ شَيۡـٔٗا وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلسَّمۡعَ وَٱلۡأَبۡصَٰرَ وَٱلۡأَفۡـِٔدَةَ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَشۡكُرُونَ ٧٨
And Allāh has extracted you from the wombs of your mothers not knowing a thing, and He made for you hearing and vision and hearts [i.e., intellect] that perhaps you would be grateful.
16:79
أَلَمۡ يَرَوۡاْ إِلَى ٱلطَّيۡرِ مُسَخَّرَٰتٖ فِي جَوِّ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَا يُمۡسِكُهُنَّ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَٰتٖ لِّقَوۡمٖ يُؤۡمِنُونَ ٧٩
Do they not see the birds controlled in the atmosphere of the sky? None holds them up except Allāh. Indeed in that are signs for a people who believe.
