An-Nahl 16:78

وَٱللَّهُ أَخۡرَجَكُم مِّنۢ بُطُونِ أُمَّهَٰتِكُمۡ لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ شَيۡـٔٗا وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلسَّمۡعَ وَٱلۡأَبۡصَٰرَ وَٱلۡأَفۡـِٔدَةَ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَشۡكُرُونَ ٧٨
And Allāh has extracted you from the wombs of your mothers not knowing a thing, and He made for you hearing and vision and hearts [i.e., intellect] that perhaps you would be grateful.

Commentary on 16:78
قرئ أُمَّهاتِكُمْ بضم الهمزة وكسرها، والهاء مزيدة في أمات، كما زيدت في أراق، فقيل: أهراق. وشذت زيادتها في الواحدة قال:
أُمَّهَتِى خِنْدِفٌ وَإلْيَاسُ أبىِ [[إنى لدى الحرب رخى اللبب ... معتزم الصولة عالى النسب
أمهتى خندف وإلياس أبى
لقصي بن كلاب بن مرة جد النبي ﷺ. ورخى اللبب. رحب الصدر واسع البال. واللبب في الأصل جبل في صدر المطية يمنع الرحلة من الاستئخار، أطلق على ذلك للمجاورة. ومعتزم: مصمم. والصولة: تجشم المكروه واقتحامه. وزيادة الهاء في أمهة شاذ. وخندف، بكسر الخاء والدال: امرأة إلياس بن مضر، وهذا لقبها، واسمها ليلى. والخندفة: مشية كالهرولة. وإطلاق الأم والأب على الجدة والجد: مجاز لمطلق الأصالة.]]
لا تَعْلَمُونَ شَيْئاً في موضع الحال. ومعناه: غير عالمين شيئاً من حق المنعم الذي خلقكم في البطون، وسوّاكم وصوّركم، ثم أخرجكم من الضيق إلى السعة. وقوله وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ معناه:
وما ركب فيكم هذه الأشياء إلا آلات لإزالة الجهل الذي ولدتم عليه واجتلاب العلم والعمل به، من شكر المنعم وعبادته، والقيام بحقوقه، والترقي إلى ما يسعدكم. والأفئدة في فؤاد، كالأغربة في غراب، وهو من جموع القلة التي جرت مجرى جموع الكثرة، والقلة إذا لم يرد في السماع غيرها، كما جاء شسوع في جمع شسع لا غير، فجرت ذلك المجرى.

16:73
وَيَعۡبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا يَمۡلِكُ لَهُمۡ رِزۡقٗا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ شَيۡـٔٗا وَلَا يَسۡتَطِيعُونَ ٧٣
And they worship besides Allāh that which does not possess for them [the power of] provision from the heavens and the earth at all, and [in fact], they are unable.
16:74
فَلَا تَضۡرِبُواْ لِلَّهِ ٱلۡأَمۡثَالَۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَعۡلَمُ وَأَنتُمۡ لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ ٧٤
So do not assert similarities to Allāh.1 Indeed, Allāh knows and you do not know.

16:75
۞ ضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلًا عَبۡدٗا مَّمۡلُوكٗا لَّا يَقۡدِرُ عَلَىٰ شَيۡءٖ وَمَن رَّزَقۡنَٰهُ مِنَّا رِزۡقًا حَسَنٗا فَهُوَ يُنفِقُ مِنۡهُ سِرّٗا وَجَهۡرًاۖ هَلۡ يَسۡتَوُۥنَۚ ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِۚ بَلۡ أَكۡثَرُهُمۡ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ ٧٥
Allāh presents an example: a slave [who is] owned and unable to do a thing and he to whom We have provided from Us good provision, so he spends from it secretly and publicly. Can they be equal? Praise to Allāh! But most of them do not know.
16:76
وَضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلٗا رَّجُلَيۡنِ أَحَدُهُمَآ أَبۡكَمُ لَا يَقۡدِرُ عَلَىٰ شَيۡءٖ وَهُوَ كَلٌّ عَلَىٰ مَوۡلَىٰهُ أَيۡنَمَا يُوَجِّههُّ لَا يَأۡتِ بِخَيۡرٍ هَلۡ يَسۡتَوِي هُوَ وَمَن يَأۡمُرُ بِٱلۡعَدۡلِ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ صِرَٰطٖ مُّسۡتَقِيمٖ ٧٦
And Allāh presents an example of two men, one of them dumb and unable to do a thing, while he is a burden to his guardian. Wherever he directs him, he brings no good. Is he equal to one who commands justice, while he is on a straight path?
16:77
وَلِلَّهِ غَيۡبُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ وَمَآ أَمۡرُ ٱلسَّاعَةِ إِلَّا كَلَمۡحِ ٱلۡبَصَرِ أَوۡ هُوَ أَقۡرَبُۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيۡءٖ قَدِيرٞ ٧٧
And to Allāh belongs the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth. And the command for the Hour is not but as a glance of the eye or even nearer. Indeed, Allāh is over all things competent.
16:78

16:79
أَلَمۡ يَرَوۡاْ إِلَى ٱلطَّيۡرِ مُسَخَّرَٰتٖ فِي جَوِّ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَا يُمۡسِكُهُنَّ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَٰتٖ لِّقَوۡمٖ يُؤۡمِنُونَ ٧٩
Do they not see the birds controlled in the atmosphere of the sky? None holds them up except Allāh. Indeed in that are signs for a people who believe.
