شَهۡرُ رَمَضَانَ ٱلَّذِيٓ أُنزِلَ فِيهِ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانُ هُدٗى لِّلنَّاسِ وَبَيِّنَٰتٖ مِّنَ ٱلۡهُدَىٰ وَٱلۡفُرۡقَانِۚ فَمَن شَهِدَ مِنكُمُ ٱلشَّهۡرَ فَلۡيَصُمۡهُۖ وَمَن كَانَ مَرِيضًا أَوۡ عَلَىٰ سَفَرٖ فَعِدَّةٞ مِّنۡ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرَۗ يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ بِكُمُ ٱلۡيُسۡرَ وَلَا يُرِيدُ بِكُمُ ٱلۡعُسۡرَ وَلِتُكۡمِلُواْ ٱلۡعِدَّةَ وَلِتُكَبِّرُواْ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ مَا هَدَىٰكُمۡ وَلَعَلَّكُمۡ تَشۡكُرُونَ ١٨٥
The month of Ramaḍān [is that] in which was revealed the Qur’ān, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights [the crescent of] the month,1 let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other days. Allāh intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and [wants] for you to complete the period and to glorify Allāh for that [to] which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful.

Commentary on 2:185
{ شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ الَّذِي أُنْزِلَ فِيهِ الْقُرْآنُ } أي: الصوم المفروض عليكم, هو شهر رمضان, الشهر العظيم, الذي قد حصل لكم فيه من الله الفضل العظيم، وهو القرآن الكريم, المشتمل على الهداية لمصالحكم الدينية والدنيوية, وتبيين الحق بأوضح بيان, والفرقان بين الحق والباطل, والهدى والضلال, وأهل السعادة وأهل الشقاوة. فحقيق بشهر, هذا فضله, وهذا إحسان الله عليكم فيه, أن يكون موسما للعباد مفروضا فيه الصيام. فلما قرره, وبين فضيلته, وحكمة الله تعالى في تخصيصه قال: { فَمَنْ شَهِدَ مِنْكُمُ الشَّهْرَ فَلْيَصُمْهُ } هذا فيه تعيين الصيام على القادر الصحيح الحاضر. ولما كان النسخ للتخيير, بين الصيام والفداء خاصة, أعاد الرخصة للمريض والمسافر, لئلا يتوهم أن الرخصة أيضا منسوخة [فقال] { يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ بِكُمُ الْيُسْرَ وَلَا يُرِيدُ بِكُمُ الْعُسْرَ } أي: يريد الله تعالى أن ييسر عليكم الطرق الموصلة إلى رضوانه أعظم تيسير, ويسهلها أشد تسهيل، ولهذا كان جميع ما أمر الله به عباده في غاية السهولة في أصله. وإذا حصلت بعض العوارض الموجبة لثقله, سهَّله تسهيلا آخر, إما بإسقاطه, أو تخفيفه بأنواع التخفيفات. وهذه جملة لا يمكن تفصيلها, لأن تفاصيلها, جميع الشرعيات, ويدخل فيها جميع الرخص والتخفيفات. { وَلِتُكْمِلُوا الْعِدَّةَ } وهذا - والله أعلم - لئلا يتوهم متوهم, أن صيام رمضان, يحصل المقصود منه ببعضه, دفع هذا الوهم بالأمر بتكميل عدته، ويشكر الله [تعالى] عند إتمامه على توفيقه وتسهيله وتبيينه لعباده, وبالتكبير عند انقضائه, ويدخل في ذلك التكبير عند رؤية هلال شوال إلى فراغ خطبة العيد.

2:182
فَمَنۡ خَافَ مِن مُّوصٖ جَنَفًا أَوۡ إِثۡمٗا فَأَصۡلَحَ بَيۡنَهُمۡ فَلَآ إِثۡمَ عَلَيۡهِۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٞ رَّحِيمٞ ١٨٢
But if one fears from the bequeather [some] error or sin and corrects that which is between them [i.e., the concerned parties], there is no sin upon him. Indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.
2:183
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ كُتِبَ عَلَيۡكُمُ ٱلصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِكُمۡ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَتَّقُونَ ١٨٣
O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous -
2:184
أَيَّامٗا مَّعۡدُودَٰتٖۚ فَمَن كَانَ مِنكُم مَّرِيضًا أَوۡ عَلَىٰ سَفَرٖ فَعِدَّةٞ مِّنۡ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرَۚ وَعَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ يُطِيقُونَهُۥ فِدۡيَةٞ طَعَامُ مِسۡكِينٖۖ فَمَن تَطَوَّعَ خَيۡرٗا فَهُوَ خَيۡرٞ لَّهُۥۚ وَأَن تَصُومُواْ خَيۡرٞ لَّكُمۡ إِن كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ ١٨٤
[Fasting for] a limited number of days. So whoever among you is ill or on a journey [during them] - then an equal number of other days [are to be made up]. And upon those who are able [to fast, but with hardship] - a ransom [as substitute] of feeding a poor person [each day]. And whoever volunteers good [i.e., excess] - it is better for him. But to fast is best for you, if you only knew.
2:185

2:186
وَإِذَا سَأَلَكَ عِبَادِي عَنِّي فَإِنِّي قَرِيبٌۖ أُجِيبُ دَعۡوَةَ ٱلدَّاعِ إِذَا دَعَانِۖ فَلۡيَسۡتَجِيبُواْ لِي وَلۡيُؤۡمِنُواْ بِي لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَرۡشُدُونَ ١٨٦
And when My servants ask you, [O Muḥammad], concerning Me - indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided.
