وَإِنَّ مِنۡهُمۡ لَفَرِيقٗا يَلۡوُۥنَ أَلۡسِنَتَهُم بِٱلۡكِتَٰبِ لِتَحۡسَبُوهُ مِنَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ وَمَا هُوَ مِنَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ وَيَقُولُونَ هُوَ مِنۡ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ وَمَا هُوَ مِنۡ عِندِ ٱللَّهِۖ وَيَقُولُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡكَذِبَ وَهُمۡ يَعۡلَمُونَ ٧٨
And indeed, there is among them a party who alter the Scripture with their tongues so you may think it is from the Scripture, but it is not from the Scripture. And they say, "This is from Allāh," but it is not from Allāh. And they speak untruth about Allāh while they know.

Commentary on 3:78
اور بے شک ان میں سے ، البتہ ایک گروہ ایسا ہے جو مروڑتے ہیں زبانیں اپنی ساتھ (پڑھنے) کتاب کے تاکہ سمجھو تم اس کو کتاب سے، حالانکہ نہیں ہے وہ کتاب میں سے،اور کہتے ہیں کہ وہ اللہ کی جانب سے ہے، حالانکہ نہیں ہے وہ اللہ کی جانب سے،اور کہتے ہیں وہ اللہ پر جھوٹ اور وہ جانتے ہیں(78)
[78] اللہ تعالیٰ بتا رہا ہے کہ اہل کتاب میں سے ایک گروہ ایسا ہے جو کتاب پڑھتے ہوئے اپنی زبان مروڑتا ہے اور اسے اس کے اصل معانی سے ہٹا دیتا ہے۔ اس میں لفظی تحریف بھی شامل ہے اور معنوی تحریف بھی۔ کتاب سے اصل مطلوب یہ ہے کہ اس کے الفاظ کو یاد کیا جائے، ان میں تبدیلی نہ کی جائے، اس کے مفہوم کوسمجھا اور سمجھایا جائے۔ انھوں نے صورت حال برعکس کردی۔ اور وہ بات سمجھائی جو کتاب سے مراد نہیں۔ خواہ اشارتاً ایسا کیا ہو یا صراحتاً۔ اشارتاً کاذکر ان الفاظ میں ہے ﴿ لِتَحۡسَبُوۡهُ مِنَ الۡكِتٰبِ ﴾ ’’تاکہ تم اسے کتاب میں سے خیال کرو۔‘‘ یعنی وہ اپنی زبانوں کو مروڑ کر یہ ظاہر کرنا چاہتے ہیں کہ اللہ کی کتاب سے یہی مسئلہ مراد ہے۔ حالانکہ حقیقت میں وہ مراد نہیں ہوتا۔ صراحتاً کا ذکر ان الفاظ میں ہے۔ ﴿ وَيَقُوۡلُوۡنَ هُوَ مِنۡ عِنۡدِ اللّٰهِ وَمَا هُوَ مِنۡ عِنۡدِ اللّٰهِ١ۚ وَيَقُوۡلُوۡنَ عَلَى اللّٰهِ الۡكَذِبَ وَهُمۡ يَعۡلَمُوۡنَ ﴾ ’’اور یہ کہتے ہیں کہ وہ اللہ کی طرف سے ہے حالانکہ دراصل وہ اللہ کی طرف سے نہیں۔ وہ تو دانستہ اللہ پر جھوٹ بولتے ہیں۔‘‘ یہ علم کے بغیر اللہ کے ذمے کوئی بات لگانے سے بڑا جرم ہے۔ یہ اللہ پر جھوٹ بولتے ہیں۔ اس طرح دو طرح کا جرم کرتے ہیں۔ صحیح مفہوم کی نفی کرتے ہیں اور غلط مفہوم کا اثبات کرتے ہیں۔ اور جو لفظ حق معنی پر دلالت کرتا ہے اس سے باطل معنی مراد لیتے ہیں، حالانکہ وہ حقیقت سے باخبر ہوتے ہیں۔

3:78

3:79
مَا كَانَ لِبَشَرٍ أَن يُؤۡتِيَهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ وَٱلۡحُكۡمَ وَٱلنُّبُوَّةَ ثُمَّ يَقُولَ لِلنَّاسِ كُونُواْ عِبَادٗا لِّي مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَٰكِن كُونُواْ رَبَّٰنِيِّـۧنَ بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تُعَلِّمُونَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ وَبِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَدۡرُسُونَ ٧٩
It is not for a human [prophet]1 that Allāh should give him the Scripture2 and authority and prophethood and then he would say to the people, "Be servants to me rather than Allāh," but [instead, he would say], "Be pious scholars of the Lord because of what you have taught of the Scripture and because of what you have studied."
3:80
وَلَا يَأۡمُرَكُمۡ أَن تَتَّخِذُواْ ٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةَ وَٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ أَرۡبَابًاۚ أَيَأۡمُرُكُم بِٱلۡكُفۡرِ بَعۡدَ إِذۡ أَنتُم مُّسۡلِمُونَ ٨٠
Nor could he order you to take the angels and prophets as lords. Would he order you to disbelief after you had been Muslims?
3:81
وَإِذۡ أَخَذَ ٱللَّهُ مِيثَٰقَ ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ لَمَآ ءَاتَيۡتُكُم مِّن كِتَٰبٖ وَحِكۡمَةٖ ثُمَّ جَآءَكُمۡ رَسُولٞ مُّصَدِّقٞ لِّمَا مَعَكُمۡ لَتُؤۡمِنُنَّ بِهِۦ وَلَتَنصُرُنَّهُۥۚ قَالَ ءَأَقۡرَرۡتُمۡ وَأَخَذۡتُمۡ عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكُمۡ إِصۡرِيۖ قَالُوٓاْ أَقۡرَرۡنَاۚ قَالَ فَٱشۡهَدُواْ وَأَنَا۠ مَعَكُم مِّنَ ٱلشَّٰهِدِينَ ٨١
And [recall, O People of the Scripture], when Allāh took the covenant of the prophets, [saying], "Whatever I give you of the Scripture and wisdom and then there comes to you a messenger confirming what is with you, you [must] believe in him and support him." [Allāh] said, "Have you acknowledged and taken upon that My commitment?"1 They said, "We have acknowledged it." He said, "Then bear witness, and I am with you among the witnesses."

3:82
فَمَن تَوَلَّىٰ بَعۡدَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡفَٰسِقُونَ ٨٢
And whoever turned away after that - they were the defiantly disobedient.
3:83
أَفَغَيۡرَ دِينِ ٱللَّهِ يَبۡغُونَ وَلَهُۥٓ أَسۡلَمَ مَن فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ طَوۡعٗا وَكَرۡهٗا وَإِلَيۡهِ يُرۡجَعُونَ ٨٣
So is it other than the religion of Allāh they desire, while to Him have submitted [all] those within the heavens and earth, willingly or by compulsion, and to Him they will be returned?
