وَمَن يَبۡتَغِ غَيۡرَ ٱلۡإِسۡلَٰمِ دِينٗا فَلَن يُقۡبَلَ مِنۡهُ وَهُوَ فِي ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ مِنَ ٱلۡخَٰسِرِينَ ٨٥
And whoever desires other than Islām as religion - never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers.

Commentary on 3:84–85
أمر رسول اللَّه صلى اللَّه عليه وسلم بأن يخبر عن نفسه وعمن معه بالإيمان، فلذلك وحد الضمير في قُلْ وجمع في آمَنَّا ويجوز أن يؤمر بأن يتكلم عن نفسه كما يتكلم الملوك إجلالا من اللَّه لقدر نبيه. فإن قلت: لم عدّى أنزل في هذه الآية بحرف الاستعلاء، وفيما تقدم من مثلها بحرف الانتهاء؟ قلت: لوجود المعنيين جميعا، لأن الوحى ينزل من فوق وينتهى إلى الرسل، فجاء تارة بأحد المعنيين، وأخرى بالآخر. ومن قال: إنما قيل (عَلَيْنا) لقوله: (قُلْ) و (إلينا) لقوله (قولوا) تفرقة بين الرسل والمؤمنين، لأن الرسول يأتيه الوحى على طريق الاستعلاء، ويأتيهم على وجه الانتهاء، فقد تعسف. ألا ترى إلى قوله: (بِما أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْكَ) ، (وَأَنْزَلْنا إِلَيْكَ الْكِتابَ) وإلى قوله: (آمِنُوا بِالَّذِي أُنْزِلَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا) . وَنَحْنُ لَهُ مُسْلِمُونَ موحدون مخلصون أنفسنا له لا نجعل له شريكا في عبادتها ثم قال وَمَنْ يَبْتَغِ غَيْرَ الْإِسْلامِ يعنى التوحيد والإسلام الوجه للَّه تعالى دِيناً فَلَنْ يُقْبَلَ مِنْهُ وَهُوَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ مِنَ الْخاسِرِينَ من الذين وقعوا في الخسران مطلقا من غير تقييد للشياع. وقرئ: ومن يبتغ غير الإسلام بالإدغام.

3:84
قُلۡ ءَامَنَّا بِٱللَّهِ وَمَآ أُنزِلَ عَلَيۡنَا وَمَآ أُنزِلَ عَلَىٰٓ إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ وَإِسۡمَٰعِيلَ وَإِسۡحَٰقَ وَيَعۡقُوبَ وَٱلۡأَسۡبَاطِ وَمَآ أُوتِيَ مُوسَىٰ وَعِيسَىٰ وَٱلنَّبِيُّونَ مِن رَّبِّهِمۡ لَا نُفَرِّقُ بَيۡنَ أَحَدٖ مِّنۡهُمۡ وَنَحۡنُ لَهُۥ مُسۡلِمُونَ ٨٤
Say, "We have believed in Allāh and in what was revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Descendants [al-Asbāṭ], and in what was given to Moses and Jesus and to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we are Muslims [submitting] to Him."
3:85
وَمَن يَبۡتَغِ غَيۡرَ ٱلۡإِسۡلَٰمِ دِينٗا فَلَن يُقۡبَلَ مِنۡهُ وَهُوَ فِي ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ مِنَ ٱلۡخَٰسِرِينَ ٨٥

3:86
كَيۡفَ يَهۡدِي ٱللَّهُ قَوۡمٗا كَفَرُواْ بَعۡدَ إِيمَٰنِهِمۡ وَشَهِدُوٓاْ أَنَّ ٱلرَّسُولَ حَقّٞ وَجَآءَهُمُ ٱلۡبَيِّنَٰتُۚ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهۡدِي ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ ٨٦
How shall Allāh guide a people who disbelieved after their belief and had witnessed that the Messenger is true and clear signs had come to them? And Allāh does not guide the wrongdoing people.
3:87
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ جَزَآؤُهُمۡ أَنَّ عَلَيۡهِمۡ لَعۡنَةَ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ وَٱلنَّاسِ أَجۡمَعِينَ ٨٧
Those - their recompense will be that upon them is the curse of Allāh and the angels and the people, all together,
3:88
خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا لَا يُخَفَّفُ عَنۡهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُ وَلَا هُمۡ يُنظَرُونَ ٨٨
Abiding eternally therein. The punishment will not be lightened for them, nor will they be reprieved,
3:89
إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ تَابُواْ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ ذَٰلِكَ وَأَصۡلَحُواْ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٞ رَّحِيمٌ ٨٩
Except for those who repent after that1 and correct themselves. For indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.

3:90
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ بَعۡدَ إِيمَٰنِهِمۡ ثُمَّ ٱزۡدَادُواْ كُفۡرٗا لَّن تُقۡبَلَ تَوۡبَتُهُمۡ وَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلضَّآلُّونَ ٩٠
Indeed, those who disbelieve [i.e., reject the message] after their belief and then increase in disbelief - never will their [claimed] repentance be accepted, and they are the ones astray.
3:91
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ وَمَاتُواْ وَهُمۡ كُفَّارٞ فَلَن يُقۡبَلَ مِنۡ أَحَدِهِم مِّلۡءُ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ ذَهَبٗا وَلَوِ ٱفۡتَدَىٰ بِهِۦٓۗ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٞ وَمَا لَهُم مِّن نَّٰصِرِينَ ٩١
Indeed, those who disbelieve and die while they are disbelievers - never would the [whole] capacity of the earth in gold be accepted from one of them if he would [seek to] ransom himself with it. For those there will be a painful punishment, and they will have no helpers.
