بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
Luqman 31:6

وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يَشۡتَرِي لَهۡوَ ٱلۡحَدِيثِ لِيُضِلَّ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ بِغَيۡرِ عِلۡمٖ وَيَتَّخِذَهَا هُزُوًاۚ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمۡ عَذَابٞ مُّهِينٞ ٦
And of the people is he who buys the amusement of speech1 to mislead [others] from the way of Allāh without knowledge and who takes it [i.e., His way] in ridicule. Those will have a humiliating punishment.

Commentary on 31:6
ثُمَّ قالَ تَعالى: ﴿ومِنَ النّاسِ مَن يَشْتَرِي لَهْوَ الحَدِيثِ لِيُضِلَّ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ ويَتَّخِذَها هُزُوًا أُولَئِكَ لَهم عَذابٌ مُهِينٌ﴾
لَمّا بَيَّنَ أنَّ القُرْآنَ كِتابٌ حَكِيمٌ يَشْتَمِلُ عَلى آياتٍ حُكْمِيَّةٍ بَيَّنَ مِن حالِ الكُفّارِ أنَّهم يَتْرُكُونَ ذَلِكَ ويَشْتَغِلُونَ بِغَيْرِهِ، ثُمَّ إنَّ فِيهِ ما يُبَيِّنُ سُوءَ صَنِيعِهِمْ مِن وُجُوهٍ.
الأوَّلُ: أنَّ تَرْكَ الحِكْمَةِ والِاشْتِغالَ بِحَدِيثٍ آخَرَ قَبِيحٌ.
الثّانِي: هو أنَّ الحَدِيثَ إذا كانَ لَهْوًا لا فائِدَةَ فِيهِ كانَ أقْبَحَ.
الثّالِثُ: هو أنَّ اللَّهْوَ قَدْ يُقْصَدُ بِهِ الإحْماضُ كَما يُنْقَلُ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبّاسٍ أنَّهُ قالَ أحَمِضُوا، ونُقِلَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أنَّهُ قالَ: ”«رَوِّحُوا القُلُوبَ ساعَةً فَساعَةً» “ رَواهُ الدَّيْلَمِيُّ عَنْ أنَسٍ مَرْفُوعًا، ويَشْهَدُ لَهُ ما في مُسْلِمٍ ”«يا حَنْظَلَةُ ساعَةً وساعَةً» “ والعَوامُّ يَفْهَمُونَ مِنهُ الأمْرَ بِما يَجُوزُ

مِنَ المُطايَبَةِ، والخَواصُّ يَقُولُونَ هو أمْرٌ بِالنَّظَرِ إلى جانِبِ الحَقِّ، فَإنَّ التَّرْوِيحَ بِهِ لا غَيْرُ، فَلَمّا لَمْ يَكُنْ قَصْدُهم إلّا الإضْلالَ لِقَوْلِهِ: ﴿لِيُضِلَّ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ﴾ كانَ فِعْلُهُ أدْخَلَ في القُبْحِ.

ثُمَّ قالَ تَعالى: ﴿بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ﴾ عائِدٌ إلى الشِّراءِ، أيْ يَشْتَرِي بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ ﴿ويَتَّخِذَها﴾ أيْ يَتَّخِذُ السَّبِيلَ هُزُوًا ﴿أُولَئِكَ لَهم عَذابٌ مُهِينٌ﴾ قَوْلُهُ: ﴿مُهِينٌ﴾ إشارَةٌ إلى أمْرٍ يُفْهَمُ مِنهُ الدَّوامُ، وذَلِكَ لِأنَّ المَلِكَ إذا أمَرَ بِتَعْذِيبِ عَبْدٍ مِن عَبِيدِهِ، فالجَلّادُ إنْ عَلِمَ أنَّهُ مِمَّنْ يَعُودُ إلى خِدْمَةِ المَلِكِ، ولا يَتْرُكُهُ المَلِكُ في الحَبْسِ، يُكْرِمُهُ ويُخَفِّفُ مِن تَعْذِيبِهِ، وإنْ عَلِمَ أنَّهُ لا يَعُودُ إلى ما كانَ عَلَيْهِ، وأمْرُهُ قَدِ انْقَضى، فَإنَّهُ لا يُكْرِمُهُ. فَقَوْلُهُ: ﴿عَذابٌ مُهِينٌ﴾ إشارَةٌ إلى هَذا، وبِهِ يُفَرَّقُ بَيْنَ عَذابِ المُؤْمِنِ وعَذابِ الكافِرِ، فَإنَّ عَذابَ المُؤْمِنِ لِيُطَهَّرَ فَهو غَيْرُ مُهِينٍ.

تِلۡكَ ءَايَٰتُ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ ٱلۡحَكِيمِ ٢
These are verses of the wise1 Book,

31:3
هُدٗى وَرَحۡمَةٗ لِّلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ ٣
As guidance and mercy for the doers of good
31:4
ٱلَّذِينَ يُقِيمُونَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَيُؤۡتُونَ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَهُم بِٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ هُمۡ يُوقِنُونَ ٤
Who establish prayer and give zakāh, and they, of the Hereafter, are certain [in faith].
31:5
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ عَلَىٰ هُدٗى مِّن رَّبِّهِمۡۖ وَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ ٥
Those are on [right] guidance from their Lord, and it is those who are the successful.
31:6
وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يَشۡتَرِي لَهۡوَ ٱلۡحَدِيثِ لِيُضِلَّ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ بِغَيۡرِ عِلۡمٖ وَيَتَّخِذَهَا هُزُوًاۚ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمۡ عَذَابٞ مُّهِينٞ ٦

وَإِذَا تُتۡلَىٰ عَلَيۡهِ ءَايَٰتُنَا وَلَّىٰ مُسۡتَكۡبِرٗا كَأَن لَّمۡ يَسۡمَعۡهَا كَأَنَّ فِيٓ أُذُنَيۡهِ وَقۡرٗاۖ فَبَشِّرۡهُ بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ ٧
And when Our verses are recited to him, he turns away arrogantly as if he had not heard them, as if there was in his ears deafness. So give him tidings of a painful punishment.
31:8
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ لَهُمۡ جَنَّٰتُ ٱلنَّعِيمِ ٨
Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds - for them are the Gardens of Pleasure,
31:9
خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَاۖ وَعۡدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقّٗاۚ وَهُوَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلۡحَكِيمُ ٩
Wherein they abide eternally; [it is] the promise of Allāh [which is] truth. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
31:10
خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ بِغَيۡرِ عَمَدٖ تَرَوۡنَهَاۖ وَأَلۡقَىٰ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ رَوَٰسِيَ أَن تَمِيدَ بِكُمۡ وَبَثَّ فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ دَآبَّةٖۚ وَأَنزَلۡنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءٗ فَأَنۢبَتۡنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوۡجٖ كَرِيمٍ ١٠
He created the heavens without pillars that you see and has cast into the earth firmly set mountains, lest it should shift with you, and dispersed therein from every creature. And We sent down rain from the sky and made grow therein [plants] of every noble kind.
31:11
هَٰذَا خَلۡقُ ٱللَّهِ فَأَرُونِي مَاذَا خَلَقَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن دُونِهِۦۚ بَلِ ٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ فِي ضَلَٰلٖ مُّبِينٖ ١١
This is the creation of Allāh. So show Me what those other than Him have created. Rather, the wrongdoers are in clear error.
