وَٱلَّذِينَ إِذَآ أَصَابَهُمُ ٱلۡبَغۡيُ هُمۡ يَنتَصِرُونَ ٣٩
And those who, when tyranny strikes them, they retaliate [in a just manner].1

Commentary on 42:36–39
الإعراب:
(فَما أُوتِيتُمْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ فَمَتاعُ الْحَياةِ الدُّنْيا) الفاء استئنافية وما شرطية في محل نصب مفعول به ثان مقدّم لأوتيتم والأول هو ضمير المخاطبين وهو نائب الفاعل ومن شيء بيان ل «ما» في محل نصب حال فمتاع: الفاء رابطة للجواب ومتاع خبر لمبتدأ محذوف أي فهو متاع الحياة الدنيا (وَما عِنْدَ اللَّهِ خَيْرٌ وَأَبْقى لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَلى رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ)
الواو عاطفة وما موصولة في محل رفع مبتدأ وعند الله ظرف متعلق بمحذوف لا محل له من الإعراب لأنه صلة لما وخير خبر ما وأبقى وعطف على خير وللذين آمنوا متعلقان بأبقى وعلى ربهم متعلقان بيتوكلون وجملة يتوكلون عطف على آمنوا داخلة في حيز الصلة (وَالَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبائِرَ الْإِثْمِ وَالْفَواحِشَ) والذين عطف على قوله للذين وجملة يجتنبون صلة وكبائر الإثم مفعول به والفواحش عطف على كبائر (وَإِذا ما غَضِبُوا هُمْ يَغْفِرُونَ) الواو عاطفة وإذا ظرف متعلق بيغفرون وما زائدة وجملة غضبوا في محل جر بإضافة إذا إليها وهم مبتدأ وجملة يغفرون خبرهم والجملة بأسرها عطف على جملة يجتنبون داخلة في حيز الصلة والعطف من عطف الاسمية على الفعلية، ويشكل على هذا جواب إذا، وقد جعله أبو البقاء هم يغفرون وهو غير صحيح لأنه لو كان جوابا لاقترن بالفاء والأولى أنه محذوف تقديره يغفرون حذف لدلالة يغفرون الواقعة خبرا عليه (وَالَّذِينَ اسْتَجابُوا لِرَبِّهِمْ وَأَقامُوا الصَّلاةَ وَأَمْرُهُمْ شُورى بَيْنَهُمْ وَمِمَّا رَزَقْناهُمْ يُنْفِقُونَ) عطف على ما تقدم وجملة استجابوا صلة ولربهم متعلقان باستجابوا وأقاموا فعل وفاعل والصلاة مفعول به وأمرهم مبتدأ وشورى خبر وبينهم ظرف في موضع نصب على الحال وأفرد هذه الجملة بالذكر لمزيد الاهتمام بالشورى وتنويها بها. وقد اختلف في الشورى وأصح الأقوال أنها عامة ويجمعها نظام الحكم قالوا ترك رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وعمر رضي الله عنه الخلافة شورى. ومما متعلقان بينفقون وجملة رزقناهم صلة (وَالَّذِينَ إِذا أَصابَهُمُ الْبَغْيُ هُمْ يَنْتَصِرُونَ) عطف على ما تقدم وهي في الإعراب كقوله «وإذا ما غضبوا هم ينتصرون» فيقال فيها ما قيل في تلك ويجوز هنا أن يكون هم تأكيدا للضمير المنصوب في أصابهم أكد بالضمير المرفوع وليس فيه إلا الفصل بين المؤكد والمؤكد بالفاعل والظاهر أنه جائز.

42:32
وَمِنۡ ءَايَٰتِهِ ٱلۡجَوَارِ فِي ٱلۡبَحۡرِ كَٱلۡأَعۡلَٰمِ ٣٢
And of His signs are the ships in the sea, like mountains.
42:33
إِن يَشَأۡ يُسۡكِنِ ٱلرِّيحَ فَيَظۡلَلۡنَ رَوَاكِدَ عَلَىٰ ظَهۡرِهِۦٓۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَٰتٖ لِّكُلِّ صَبَّارٖ شَكُورٍ ٣٣
If He willed, He could still the wind, and they would remain motionless on its surface. Indeed in that are signs for everyone patient and grateful.
42:34
أَوۡ يُوبِقۡهُنَّ بِمَا كَسَبُواْ وَيَعۡفُ عَن كَثِيرٖ ٣٤
Or He could destroy them1 for what they earned; but He pardons much.

42:35
وَيَعۡلَمَ ٱلَّذِينَ يُجَٰدِلُونَ فِيٓ ءَايَٰتِنَا مَا لَهُم مِّن مَّحِيصٖ ٣٥
And [that is so] those who dispute concerning Our signs may know that for them there is no place of escape.
42:36
فَمَآ أُوتِيتُم مِّن شَيۡءٖ فَمَتَٰعُ ٱلۡحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡيَاۚ وَمَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ خَيۡرٞ وَأَبۡقَىٰ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمۡ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ ٣٦
So whatever thing you have been given - it is but [for] enjoyment of the worldly life. But what is with Allāh is better and more lasting for those who have believed and upon their Lord rely
42:37
وَٱلَّذِينَ يَجۡتَنِبُونَ كَبَٰٓئِرَ ٱلۡإِثۡمِ وَٱلۡفَوَٰحِشَ وَإِذَا مَا غَضِبُواْ هُمۡ يَغۡفِرُونَ ٣٧
And those who avoid the major sins and immoralities, and when they are angry, they forgive,
42:38
وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱسۡتَجَابُواْ لِرَبِّهِمۡ وَأَقَامُواْ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَأَمۡرُهُمۡ شُورَىٰ بَيۡنَهُمۡ وَمِمَّا رَزَقۡنَٰهُمۡ يُنفِقُونَ ٣٨
And those who have responded to their Lord and established prayer and whose affair is [determined by] consultation among themselves, and from what We have provided them, they spend,
42:39
وَٱلَّذِينَ إِذَآ أَصَابَهُمُ ٱلۡبَغۡيُ هُمۡ يَنتَصِرُونَ ٣٩
And those who, when tyranny strikes them, they retaliate [in a just manner].1

42:40
وَجَزَٰٓؤُاْ سَيِّئَةٖ سَيِّئَةٞ مِّثۡلُهَاۖ فَمَنۡ عَفَا وَأَصۡلَحَ فَأَجۡرُهُۥ عَلَى ٱللَّهِۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ ٤٠
And the retribution for an evil act is an evil one like it, but whoever pardons and makes reconciliation - his reward is [due] from Allāh. Indeed, He does not like wrongdoers.
42:41
وَلَمَنِ ٱنتَصَرَ بَعۡدَ ظُلۡمِهِۦ فَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ مَا عَلَيۡهِم مِّن سَبِيلٍ ٤١
And whoever retaliates after having been wronged - those have not upon them any cause [for blame].
42:42
إِنَّمَا ٱلسَّبِيلُ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ يَظۡلِمُونَ ٱلنَّاسَ وَيَبۡغُونَ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ بِغَيۡرِ ٱلۡحَقِّۚ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٞ ٤٢
The cause is only against the ones who wrong the people and tyrannize upon the earth without right. Those will have a painful punishment.
42:43
وَلَمَن صَبَرَ وَغَفَرَ إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ لَمِنۡ عَزۡمِ ٱلۡأُمُورِ ٤٣
And whoever is patient and forgives - indeed, that is of the matters [worthy] of resolve.1

42:44
وَمَن يُضۡلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن وَلِيّٖ مِّنۢ بَعۡدِهِۦۗ وَتَرَى ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ لَمَّا رَأَوُاْ ٱلۡعَذَابَ يَقُولُونَ هَلۡ إِلَىٰ مَرَدّٖ مِّن سَبِيلٖ ٤٤
And he whom Allāh sends astray - for him there is no protector beyond Him. And you will see the wrongdoers, when they see the punishment, saying, "Is there for return [to the former world] any way?"
