Commentary on 47:6–9

وَيُدْخِلُهُمُ الْجَنَّةَ عَرَّ‌فَهَا لَهُمْ (and will admit them to the Paradise He has identified for them. - 47:6). This is the third bounty of Allah. He will not only admit them into Paradise but will identify for them the gardens of bliss and will make them familiar with such bounties as houris and mansions in a way that it would seem to them that they have been living there since eternity. If such an acquaintance was not made, Paradise would have seemed a strange world. It would have taken them time to find their abode, to accustom themselves with the new environment, and they would not overcome the sense of unfamiliarity for a period of time.

Abu Hurayrah ؓ reports that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "By Him who sent me with the religion of Truth! As you are closely familiar with your wives and homes in this world, so you will know your abode and your wives of Paradise - rather even better. Some reports of Hadith tell us that an angel will be appointed for every single inmate of Paradise who will introduce them to their abode and wives in Paradise. Allah knows best.

Muhammad

Muhammad · Medinan · 38 ayahs

Those who disbelieve and avert [people] from the way of Allāh - He will waste their deeds.1

1 translator’s note
  1. i.e., cause them to be lost or make them worthless, earning no reward. ↩

47:2

And those who believe and do righteous deeds and believe in what has been sent down upon Muḥammad - and it is the truth from their Lord - He will remove from them their misdeeds and amend their condition.

47:3

That is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood, and those who believe follow the truth from their Lord. Thus does Allāh present to the people their comparisons.1

1 translator’s note
  1. So that they may know the results of their choice. ↩

47:4

So when you meet those who disbelieve [in battle], strike [their] necks until, when you have inflicted slaughter upon them, then secure [their] bonds,1 and either [confer] favor2 afterwards or ransom [them] until the war lays down its burdens.3 That [is the command]. And if Allāh had willed, He could have taken vengeance upon them [Himself], but [He ordered armed struggle] to test some of you by means of others. And those who are killed in the cause of Allāh - never will He waste their deeds.

3 translator’s notes
  1. i.e., take those remaining as captives.

[1495] i.e., release them without ransom.

[1496] i.e., its armor, machinery, etc., meaning "until the war is over."

    ↩
  2. ↩
  3. ↩

47:5

He will guide them and amend their condition

47:6

And admit them to Paradise, which He has made known to them.

47:7

O you who have believed, if you support Allāh, He will support you and plant firmly your feet.

47:8

But those who disbelieve - for them is misery, and He will waste their deeds.

47:9

That is because they disliked what Allāh revealed, so He rendered worthless their deeds.

47:10

Have they not traveled through the land and seen how was the end of those before them? Allāh destroyed [everything] over them,1 and for the disbelievers is something comparable.

1 translator’s note
  1. i.e., destroyed them and all they owned. ↩

47:11

That is because Allāh is the protector of those who have believed and because the disbelievers have no protector.
