بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
Al-Fath 48:4

هُوَ ٱلَّذِيٓ أَنزَلَ ٱلسَّكِينَةَ فِي قُلُوبِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ لِيَزۡدَادُوٓاْ إِيمَٰنٗا مَّعَ إِيمَٰنِهِمۡۗ وَلِلَّهِ جُنُودُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمٗا ٤
It is He who sent down tranquility into the hearts of the believers that they would increase in faith along with their [present] faith. And to Allāh belong the soldiers of the heavens and the earth, and ever is Allāh Knowing and Wise.

Commentary on 48:4–6
﴿هُوَ الَّذِي أنْـزَلَ السَكِينَةَ في قُلُوبِ المُؤْمِنِينَ لِيَزْدادُوا إيمانًا مَعَ إيمانِهِمْ﴾، "اَلسَّكِينَةُ"، لِلسُّكُونِ، كَـ "اَلْبَهِيتَةُ"، لِلْبُهْتانِ، أيْ: أنْزَلَ اللهُ في قُلُوبِهِمُ السُكُونَ، والطُمَأْنِينَةَ، بِسَبَبِ الصُلْحِ، لِيَزْدادُوا يَقِينًا إلى يَقِينِهِمْ، وقِيلَ: "اَلسَّكِينَةُ": اَلصَّبْرُ عَلى ما أمَرَ اللهُ، والثِقَةُ بِوَعْدِ اللهِ، والتَعْظِيمُ لِأمْرِ اللهِ،
﴿وَلِلَّهِ جُنُودُ السَماواتِ والأرْضِ وكانَ اللهُ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًا﴾ ﴿لِيُدْخِلَ المُؤْمِنِينَ والمُؤْمِناتِ جَنّاتٍ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِها الأنْهارُ خالِدِينَ فِيها ويُكَفِّرَ عَنْهم سَيِّئاتِهِمْ وكانَ ذَلِكَ عِنْدَ اللهِ فَوْزًا عَظِيمًا﴾ ﴿وَيُعَذِّبَ المُنافِقِينَ والمُنافِقاتِ والمُشْرِكِينَ والمُشْرِكاتِ﴾ أيْ: ولِلَّهِ جُنُودُ السَماواتِ والأرْضِ، يُسَلِّطُ بَعْضَها عَلى بَعْضٍ، كَما يَقْتَضِيهِ عِلْمُهُ، وحِكْمَتُهُ، ومِن قَضِيَّتِهِ أنْ سَكَّنَ قُلُوبَ المُؤْمِنِينَ بِصُلْحِ الحُدَيْبِيَةِ، ووَعَدَهم أنْ يَفْتَحَ لَهُمْ، وإنَّما قَضى ذَلِكَ لِيَعْرِفَ المُؤْمِنُونَ نِعْمَةَ اللهِ فِيهِ، ويَشْكُرُوها، فَيُثِيبَهُمْ، ويُعَذِّبُ الكافِرِينَ، والمُنافِقِينَ، لِما غاظَهم مِن ذَلِكَ، وكَرِهُوهُ،
﴿الظانِّينَ بِاللهِ ظَنَّ السَوْءِ﴾، وقْعَ السَوْءِ، عِبارَةٌ عَنْ رَداءَةِ الشَيْءِ، وفَسادِهِ، (p-٣٣٥)يُقالُ: "فِعْلُ سَوْءٍ"، أيْ: مَسْخُوطٌ، فاسِدٌ، والمُرادُ ظَنُّهم أنَّ اللهَ (تَعالى) لا يَنْصُرُ الرَسُولَ والمُؤْمِنِينَ، ولا يُرْجِعُهم إلى مَكَّةَ ظافِرِينَ، فاتِحِيها عَنْوَةً وقَهْرًا، "عَلَيْهِمْ دائِرَةُ السُوءِ"، "مَكِّيٌّ وأبُو عَمْرٍو"، أيْ: ما يَظُنُّونَهُ، ويَتَرَبَّصُونَهُ بِالمُؤْمِنِينَ، فَهو حائِقٌ بِهِمْ، ودائِرٌ عَلَيْهِمْ، و"اَلسُّوءُ": اَلْهَلاكُ، والدَمارُ، وغَيْرُهُما: "دائِرَةُ السَوْءِ"، بِالفَتْحِ، أيْ: اَلدّائِرَةُ الَّتِي يَذُمُّونَها، ويَسْخَطُونَها، "اَلسُّوءُ"، و"اَلسَّوْءُ"، كَـ "اَلْكَرْهُ"، و"اَلْكُرْهُ"، و"اَلضَّعْفُ"، و"الضُعْفُ"، إلّا أنَّ المَفْتُوحَ غَلَبَ في أنْ يُضافَ إلَيْهِ ما يُرادُ ذَمُّهُ مِن كُلِّ شَيْءٍ، وأمّا "اَلسُّوءُ"، فَجارٍ مُجْرى الشَرِّ، الَّذِي هو نَقِيضُ الخَيْرِ،
﴿وَغَضِبَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِمْ ولَعَنَهم وأعَدَّ لَهم جَهَنَّمَ وساءَتْ مَصِيرًا﴾، جَهَنَّمُ.

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
48:1
إِنَّا فَتَحۡنَا لَكَ فَتۡحٗا مُّبِينٗا ١
Indeed, We have given you, [O Muḥammad], a clear conquest1

- Ibn Masʿūd said, "You [people] consider the conquest to be that of Makkah, but we consider it to be the Treaty of al-Ḥudaybiyyah." Al-Bukhārī reported a similar quotation from al-Barā’ bin ʿĀzib. Although initially regarded by the companions as a setback, the treaty, in effect, served to promote the spread of Islām, which led to the conquest of Makkah two years later. ↩
48:2
لِّيَغۡفِرَ لَكَ ٱللَّهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِن ذَنۢبِكَ وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ وَيُتِمَّ نِعۡمَتَهُۥ عَلَيۡكَ وَيَهۡدِيَكَ صِرَٰطٗا مُّسۡتَقِيمٗا ٢
That Allāh may forgive for you what preceded of your sin [i.e., errors] and what will follow and complete His favor upon you and guide you to a straight path
48:3
وَيَنصُرَكَ ٱللَّهُ نَصۡرًا عَزِيزًا ٣
And [that] Allāh may aid you with a mighty victory.
48:4
هُوَ ٱلَّذِيٓ أَنزَلَ ٱلسَّكِينَةَ فِي قُلُوبِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ لِيَزۡدَادُوٓاْ إِيمَٰنٗا مَّعَ إِيمَٰنِهِمۡۗ وَلِلَّهِ جُنُودُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمٗا ٤

48:5
لِّيُدۡخِلَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَٰتِ جَنَّٰتٖ تَجۡرِي مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا وَيُكَفِّرَ عَنۡهُمۡ سَيِّـَٔاتِهِمۡۚ وَكَانَ ذَٰلِكَ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ فَوۡزًا عَظِيمٗا ٥
[And] that He may admit the believing men and the believing women to gardens beneath which rivers flow to abide therein eternally and remove from them their misdeeds - and ever is that, in the sight of Allāh, a great attainment –
48:6
وَيُعَذِّبَ ٱلۡمُنَٰفِقِينَ وَٱلۡمُنَٰفِقَٰتِ وَٱلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ وَٱلۡمُشۡرِكَٰتِ ٱلظَّآنِّينَ بِٱللَّهِ ظَنَّ ٱلسَّوۡءِۚ عَلَيۡهِمۡ دَآئِرَةُ ٱلسَّوۡءِۖ وَغَضِبَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وَلَعَنَهُمۡ وَأَعَدَّ لَهُمۡ جَهَنَّمَۖ وَسَآءَتۡ مَصِيرٗا ٦
And [that] He may punish the hypocrite men and hypocrite women, and the polytheist men and polytheist women - those who assume about Allāh an assumption of evil nature. Upon them is a misfortune of evil nature; and Allāh has become angry with them and has cursed them and prepared for them Hell, and evil it is as a destination.
48:7
وَلِلَّهِ جُنُودُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَزِيزًا حَكِيمًا ٧
And to Allāh belong the soldiers of the heavens and the earth. And ever is Allāh Exalted in Might and Wise.
48:8
إِنَّآ أَرۡسَلۡنَٰكَ شَٰهِدٗا وَمُبَشِّرٗا وَنَذِيرٗا ٨
Indeed, We have sent you as a witness and a bringer of good tidings and a warner
48:9
لِّتُؤۡمِنُواْ بِٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ وَتُعَزِّرُوهُ وَتُوَقِّرُوهُۚ وَتُسَبِّحُوهُ بُكۡرَةٗ وَأَصِيلًا ٩
That you [people] may believe in Allāh and His Messenger and honor him and respect him [i.e., the Prophet (ﷺ)] and exalt Him [i.e., Allāh] morning and afternoon.
