Al-Ma'idah 5:15

يَٰٓأَهۡلَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ قَدۡ جَآءَكُمۡ رَسُولُنَا يُبَيِّنُ لَكُمۡ كَثِيرٗا مِّمَّا كُنتُمۡ تُخۡفُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ وَيَعۡفُواْ عَن كَثِيرٖۚ قَدۡ جَآءَكُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ نُورٞ وَكِتَٰبٞ مُّبِينٞ ١٥
O People of the Scripture, there has come to you Our Messenger making clear to you much of what you used to conceal of the Scripture and overlooking much.1 There has come to you from Allāh a light and a clear Book [i.e., the Qur’ān]

Commentary on 5:15
قوله تعالى : يا أهل الكتاب الكتاب اسم جنس بمعنى الكتب ; فجميعهم مخاطبون . [ ص: 78 ] قد جاءكم رسولنا محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم . يبين لكم كثيرا مما كنتم تخفون من الكتاب أي : من كتبكم ; من الإيمان به ، ومن آية الرجم ، ومن قصة أصحاب السبت الذين مسخوا قردة ; فإنهم كانوا يخفونها . ويعفو عن كثير أي : يتركه ولا يبينه ، وإنما يبين ما فيه حجة على نبوته ، ودلالة على صدقه وشهادة برسالته ، ويترك ما لم يكن به حاجة إلى تبيينه ، وقيل ويعفو عن كثير يعني يتجاوز عن كثير فلا يخبركم به ، وذكر أن رجلا من أحبارهم جاء إلى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فسأله فقال : يا هذا عفوت عنا ؟ فأعرض عنه رسول الله عليه وسلم ولم يبين ; وإنما أراد اليهودي أن يظهر مناقضة كلامه ، فلما لم يبين له رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قام من عنده فذهب وقال لأصحابه : أرى أنه صادق فيما يقول : لأنه كان وجد في كتابه أنه لا يبين له ما سأله عنه . قد جاءكم من الله نور أي : ضياء ; قيل : الإسلام ، وقيل : محمد عليه السلام ; عن الزجاج . وكتاب مبين أي القرآن ; فإنه يبين الأحكام ، وقد تقدم .

5:14
وَمِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّا نَصَٰرَىٰٓ أَخَذۡنَا مِيثَٰقَهُمۡ فَنَسُواْ حَظّٗا مِّمَّا ذُكِّرُواْ بِهِۦ فَأَغۡرَيۡنَا بَيۡنَهُمُ ٱلۡعَدَاوَةَ وَٱلۡبَغۡضَآءَ إِلَىٰ يَوۡمِ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِۚ وَسَوۡفَ يُنَبِّئُهُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَصۡنَعُونَ ١٤
And from those who say, "We are Christians" We took their covenant; but they forgot a portion of that of which they were reminded.1 So We caused among them2 animosity and hatred until the Day of Resurrection. And Allāh is going to inform them about what they used to do.
5:15

5:16
يَهۡدِي بِهِ ٱللَّهُ مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَ رِضۡوَٰنَهُۥ سُبُلَ ٱلسَّلَٰمِ وَيُخۡرِجُهُم مِّنَ ٱلظُّلُمَٰتِ إِلَى ٱلنُّورِ بِإِذۡنِهِۦ وَيَهۡدِيهِمۡ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطٖ مُّسۡتَقِيمٖ ١٦
By which Allāh guides those who pursue His pleasure to the ways of peace1 and brings them out from darknesses into the light, by His permission, and guides them to a straight path.

5:17
لَّقَدۡ كَفَرَ ٱلَّذِينَ قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلۡمَسِيحُ ٱبۡنُ مَرۡيَمَۚ قُلۡ فَمَن يَمۡلِكُ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ شَيۡـًٔا إِنۡ أَرَادَ أَن يُهۡلِكَ ٱلۡمَسِيحَ ٱبۡنَ مَرۡيَمَ وَأُمَّهُۥ وَمَن فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ جَمِيعٗاۗ وَلِلَّهِ مُلۡكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَاۚ يَخۡلُقُ مَا يَشَآءُۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيۡءٖ قَدِيرٞ ١٧
They have certainly disbelieved who say that Allāh is Christ, the son of Mary. Say, "Then who could prevent Allāh at all if He had intended to destroy Christ, the son of Mary, or his mother or everyone on the earth?" And to Allāh belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them. He creates what He wills, and Allāh is over all things competent.
