لَّقَدۡ كَفَرَ ٱلَّذِينَ قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلۡمَسِيحُ ٱبۡنُ مَرۡيَمَۚ قُلۡ فَمَن يَمۡلِكُ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ شَيۡـًٔا إِنۡ أَرَادَ أَن يُهۡلِكَ ٱلۡمَسِيحَ ٱبۡنَ مَرۡيَمَ وَأُمَّهُۥ وَمَن فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ جَمِيعٗاۗ وَلِلَّهِ مُلۡكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَاۚ يَخۡلُقُ مَا يَشَآءُۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيۡءٖ قَدِيرٞ ١٧
They have certainly disbelieved who say that Allāh is Christ, the son of Mary. Say, "Then who could prevent Allāh at all if He had intended to destroy Christ, the son of Mary, or his mother or everyone on the earth?" And to Allāh belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them. He creates what He wills, and Allāh is over all things competent.

Commentary on 5:15–17
وقوله سبحانه: يا أَهْلَ الْكِتابِ قَدْ جاءَكُمْ رَسُولُنا يُبَيِّنُ لَكُمْ كَثِيراً مِمَّا كُنْتُمْ تُخْفُونَ مِنَ الْكِتابِ ... الآية: أهْلُ الكتابِ: لفظٌ يعمُّ اليهودَ والنصارى، ولكنْ نوازل الإخفاء كالرَّجْم وغيره، إنما حُفِظَتْ لليهود لأنهم كانوا مجاوري رسول الله ﷺ في مهاجره، وفي إعلامه ﷺ بِخَفِيِّ ما في كُتُبِهِمْ، وهو أُمِّيٌّ لاَ يَكْتُبُ، ولا يَصْحَبُ القُرَّاءَ- دليلٌ على صحَّة نبوَّته لو ألهمهم اللَّه للخَيْر، وَيَعْفُوا عَنْ كَثِيرٍ: أي: لم يفْضَحْهم فيه إبقاءً عليهم، والضمير في يَعْفُوا للنبيّ ﷺ.
وقوله تعالى: قَدْ جاءَكُمْ مِنَ اللَّهِ نُورٌ: هو محمّد ﷺ، وكِتابٌ مُبِينٌ: هو القُرآن، ويحتملُ أنْ يريدَ موسى- عليه السلام-، والتوراةُ: أي: لو اتبعتموها حقَّ الاِتِّباع، والأوَّل هو ظاهر الآية، وهو أظهر، وسُبُلَ السَّلامِ: أي: طُرُقَ السلامةِ والنَّجَاةِ، ويحتملُ أنْ يكون «السَّلاَم» هنا اسما من أسماءِ اللَّه عزّ وجلّ، فالمعنى: طرق الله، والظُّلُماتِ: الكفر، والنُّورِ: الإيمان، وباقي الآية بيِّن متكرِّر.
وقوله سبحانه: قُلْ فَمَنْ يَمْلِكُ: أيْ: لا مَالِكَ، ولا رادَّ لإرادةِ اللَّه تعالى في المسيحِ، ولا في غَيْرِهِ.
وقوله سبحانه: يَخْلُقُ مَا يَشاءُ: إشارةٌ إلى خلقه المسيحَ في رَحِمِ مَرْيَمَ من غير والد، بل اختراعاً كآدم- عليه السلام-.
وقوله تعالى: وَاللَّهُ عَلى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ: عُمُومٌ معناه الخُصُوصُ فيما عدا الذَّات، والصفاتِ، والمحالاتِ.

5:14
وَمِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّا نَصَٰرَىٰٓ أَخَذۡنَا مِيثَٰقَهُمۡ فَنَسُواْ حَظّٗا مِّمَّا ذُكِّرُواْ بِهِۦ فَأَغۡرَيۡنَا بَيۡنَهُمُ ٱلۡعَدَاوَةَ وَٱلۡبَغۡضَآءَ إِلَىٰ يَوۡمِ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِۚ وَسَوۡفَ يُنَبِّئُهُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَصۡنَعُونَ ١٤
And from those who say, "We are Christians" We took their covenant; but they forgot a portion of that of which they were reminded.1 So We caused among them2 animosity and hatred until the Day of Resurrection. And Allāh is going to inform them about what they used to do.
5:15
يَٰٓأَهۡلَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ قَدۡ جَآءَكُمۡ رَسُولُنَا يُبَيِّنُ لَكُمۡ كَثِيرٗا مِّمَّا كُنتُمۡ تُخۡفُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ وَيَعۡفُواْ عَن كَثِيرٖۚ قَدۡ جَآءَكُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ نُورٞ وَكِتَٰبٞ مُّبِينٞ ١٥
O People of the Scripture, there has come to you Our Messenger making clear to you much of what you used to conceal of the Scripture and overlooking much.1 There has come to you from Allāh a light and a clear Book [i.e., the Qur’ān]

5:16
يَهۡدِي بِهِ ٱللَّهُ مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَ رِضۡوَٰنَهُۥ سُبُلَ ٱلسَّلَٰمِ وَيُخۡرِجُهُم مِّنَ ٱلظُّلُمَٰتِ إِلَى ٱلنُّورِ بِإِذۡنِهِۦ وَيَهۡدِيهِمۡ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطٖ مُّسۡتَقِيمٖ ١٦
By which Allāh guides those who pursue His pleasure to the ways of peace1 and brings them out from darknesses into the light, by His permission, and guides them to a straight path.

5:17
