بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
Al-Qamar 54:4

وَلَقَدۡ جَآءَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَنۢبَآءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزۡدَجَرٌ ٤
And there has already come to them of information that in which there is deterrence.

Commentary on 54:4
وقوله ( وَلَقَدْ جَاءَهُمْ مِنَ الأنْبَاءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزْدَجَرٌ ) يقول تعالى ذكره: ولقد جاء هؤلاء المشركين من قريش الذين كذّبوا بآيات الله, واتبعوا أهواءهم من الأخبار عن الأمم السالفة, الذين كانوا من تكذيب رسل الله على مثل الذي هم عليه, وأحلّ الله بهم من عقوباته ما قصّ في هذا القرآن ما فيه لهم مزدجر, يعني: ما يردعهم, ويزجرهم عما هم عليه مقيمون, من التكذيب بآيات الله, وهو مُفْتَعَلٌ من الزَّجْر.
وبنحو الذي قلنا في معنى ذلك قال أهل التأويل.
* ذكر من قال ذلك:
حدثني محمد بن عمرو, قال: ثنا أبو عاصم, قال: ثنا عيسى; وحدثني الحارث, قال: ثنا الحسن, قال: ثنا ورقاء جميعا, عن ابن أبي نجيح, عن مجاهد, قوله ( مُزْدَجَرٌ ) قال: مُنتهى.
حدثنا بشر, قال: ثنا يزيد, قال: ثنا سعيد, عن قتادة, قوله ( وَلَقَدْ جَاءَهُمْ مِنَ الأنْبَاءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزْدَجَرٌ ) : أي هذا القرآن.
حدثنا ابن حميد, قال: ثنا مهران, عن سفيان ( وَلَقَدْ جَاءَهُمْ مِنَ الأنْبَاءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزْدَجَرٌ ) قال: المزدَجَر: المنتهى.

53:45
وَأَنَّهُۥ خَلَقَ ٱلزَّوۡجَيۡنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلۡأُنثَىٰ ٤٥
And that He creates the two mates - the male and female -
53:46
مِن نُّطۡفَةٍ إِذَا تُمۡنَىٰ ٤٦
From a sperm-drop when it is emitted
53:47
وَأَنَّ عَلَيۡهِ ٱلنَّشۡأَةَ ٱلۡأُخۡرَىٰ ٤٧
And that [incumbent] upon Him is the other [i.e., next] creation.
53:48
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَغۡنَىٰ وَأَقۡنَىٰ ٤٨
And that it is He who enriches and suffices
53:49
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلشِّعۡرَىٰ ٤٩
And that it is He who is the Lord of Sirius1

53:50
وَأَنَّهُۥٓ أَهۡلَكَ عَادًا ٱلۡأُولَىٰ ٥٠
And that He destroyed the first [people of] ʿAad
53:51
وَثَمُودَاْ فَمَآ أَبۡقَىٰ ٥١
And Thamūd - and He did not spare [them] -
53:52
وَقَوۡمَ نُوحٖ مِّن قَبۡلُۖ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ هُمۡ أَظۡلَمَ وَأَطۡغَىٰ ٥٢
And the people of Noah before. Indeed, it was they who were [even] more unjust and oppressing.
53:53
وَٱلۡمُؤۡتَفِكَةَ أَهۡوَىٰ ٥٣
And the overturned towns1 He hurled down

53:54
فَغَشَّىٰهَا مَا غَشَّىٰ ٥٤
And covered them by that which He covered.1

53:55
فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَىٰ ٥٥
Then which of the favors of your Lord do you doubt?
53:56
هَٰذَا نَذِيرٞ مِّنَ ٱلنُّذُرِ ٱلۡأُولَىٰٓ ٥٦
This [Prophet (ﷺ)] is a warner from [i.e., like] the former warners.
53:57
أَزِفَتِ ٱلۡأٓزِفَةُ ٥٧
The Approaching Day has approached.
53:58
لَيۡسَ لَهَا مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ ٥٨
Of it, [from those] besides Allāh, there is no remover.
53:59
أَفَمِنۡ هَٰذَا ٱلۡحَدِيثِ تَعۡجَبُونَ ٥٩
Then at this statement do you wonder?
53:60
وَتَضۡحَكُونَ وَلَا تَبۡكُونَ ٦٠
And you laugh and do not weep
53:61
وَأَنتُمۡ سَٰمِدُونَ ٦١
While you are proudly sporting?1

53:62
فَٱسۡجُدُواْۤ لِلَّهِۤ وَٱعۡبُدُواْ۩ ٦٢
So prostrate to Allāh and worship [Him].
سورة القمر
Al-Qamar
The Moon · Meccan · 55 ayahs
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
54:1
ٱقۡتَرَبَتِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ وَٱنشَقَّ ٱلۡقَمَرُ ١
The Hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two].1

- This was a sign given by Allāh to Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ) when the Quraysh challenged him to show them a miracle. ↩
54:2
وَإِن يَرَوۡاْ ءَايَةٗ يُعۡرِضُواْ وَيَقُولُواْ سِحۡرٞ مُّسۡتَمِرّٞ ٢
And if they see a sign [i.e., miracle], they turn away and say, "Passing magic."1

54:3
وَكَذَّبُواْ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓاْ أَهۡوَآءَهُمۡۚ وَكُلُّ أَمۡرٖ مُّسۡتَقِرّٞ ٣
And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement.
54:4
وَلَقَدۡ جَآءَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَنۢبَآءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزۡدَجَرٌ ٤
And there has already come to them of information that in which there is deterrence.
54:5
حِكۡمَةُۢ بَٰلِغَةٞۖ فَمَا تُغۡنِ ٱلنُّذُرُ ٥
Extensive wisdom - but warning does not avail [them].
54:6
فَتَوَلَّ عَنۡهُمۡۘ يَوۡمَ يَدۡعُ ٱلدَّاعِ إِلَىٰ شَيۡءٖ نُّكُرٍ ٦
So leave them, [O Muḥammad]. The Day the Caller1 calls to something forbidding,
