بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَضَعَهَا لِلۡأَنَامِ ١٠
And the earth He laid [out] for the creatures.

﴿والأرْضَ وضَعَها﴾ خَلَقَها مَوْضُوعَةً مَخْفُوضَةً عَنِ السَّماءِ حَسْبَما يُشاهَدُ، وقالَ الرّاغِبُ: الوَضْعُ هُنا الإيجادُ والخَلْقُ وكَأنَّ مُرادَهُ ما ذُكِرَ، وقِيلَ: أيْ خَفْضِها مَدْحُوَّةٍ عَلى الماءِ،

والظّاهِرُ عَلى تَقْدِيرِ اعْتِبارِ الدَّحْوِ أنَّهُ لا حاجَةَ إلى اعْتِبارِ أنَّهُ سُبْحانَهُ خَلَقَها كَذَلِكَ بَلْ لا يَصِحُّ لِأنَّها لَمْ تُخْلَقْ مَدْحُوَّةٌ وإنَّما دُحِيَتْ بَعْدُ عَلى ما رُوِيَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبّاسٍ، ثُمَّ إنَّ كَوْنَها عَلى الماءِ مَبْنِيٌّ عَلى ما اشْتُهِرَ أنَّهُ عَزَّ وجَلَّ خَلَقَ الماءَ قَبْلَها وخَلَقَها سُبْحانَهُ مِن زُبْدِهِ ﴿لِلأنامِ﴾ قالَ ابْنُ عَبّاسٍ وقَتادَةُ وابْنُ زَيْدٍ والشَّعْبِيُّ ومُجاهِدٌ عَلى ما في مَجْمَعِ البَحْرَيْنِ: الحَيَوانُ كُلُّهُ، وقالَ الحَسَنُ: الإنْسُ والجِنُّ.
وفِي رِوايَةٍ أُخْرى عَنِ ابْنِ عَبّاسٍ هم بَنُو آدَمَ فَقَطْ ولَمْ أرَ هَذا التَّخْصِيصَ لِغَيْرِهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعالى عَنْهُ، فَفي القامُوسِ الأنامُ الخَلْقُ أوِ الجِنُّ والإنْسُ، أوْ جَمِيعُ ما عَلى وجْهِ الأرْضِ، ويُحْتَمَلُ أنَّهُ أرادَ أنَّ المُرادَ بِهِ هُنا ذَلِكَ بِناءً عَلى أنَّ اللّامَ لِلِانْتِفاعِ وأنَّهُ مَحْمُولٌ عَلى الِانْتِفاعِ التّامِّ وهو لِلْإنْسِ أتَمُّ مِنهُ لِغَيْرِهِمْ، والأوْلى عِنْدِي ما حُكِيَ عَنْهُ أوَّلًا، وقَرَأ أبُو السَّمّالِ «والأرْضَ» بِالرَّفْعِ -

54:50
وَمَآ أَمۡرُنَآ إِلَّا وَٰحِدَةٞ كَلَمۡحِۭ بِٱلۡبَصَرِ ٥٠
And Our command is but one, like a glance of the eye.
54:51
وَلَقَدۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَآ أَشۡيَاعَكُمۡ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ ٥١
And We have already destroyed your kinds,1 so is there any who will remember?

54:52
وَكُلُّ شَيۡءٖ فَعَلُوهُ فِي ٱلزُّبُرِ ٥٢
And everything they did is in written records.
54:53
وَكُلُّ صَغِيرٖ وَكَبِيرٖ مُّسۡتَطَرٌ ٥٣
And every small and great [thing] is inscribed.
54:54
إِنَّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ فِي جَنَّٰتٖ وَنَهَرٖ ٥٤
Indeed, the righteous will be among gardens and rivers,
54:55
فِي مَقۡعَدِ صِدۡقٍ عِندَ مَلِيكٖ مُّقۡتَدِرِۭ ٥٥
In a seat of honor near a Sovereign, Perfect in Ability.1

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
55:1
ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنُ ١
The Most Merciful
55:2
عَلَّمَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ ٢
Taught the Qur’ān,
55:3
خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ ٣
Created man,
55:4
عَلَّمَهُ ٱلۡبَيَانَ ٤
[And] taught him eloquence.
55:5
ٱلشَّمۡسُ وَٱلۡقَمَرُ بِحُسۡبَانٖ ٥
The sun and the moon [move] by precise calculation,
55:6
وَٱلنَّجۡمُ وَٱلشَّجَرُ يَسۡجُدَانِ ٦
And the stars and trees prostrate.1

55:7
وَٱلسَّمَآءَ رَفَعَهَا وَوَضَعَ ٱلۡمِيزَانَ ٧
And the heaven He raised and imposed the balance
55:8
أَلَّا تَطۡغَوۡاْ فِي ٱلۡمِيزَانِ ٨
That you not transgress within the balance.
55:9
وَأَقِيمُواْ ٱلۡوَزۡنَ بِٱلۡقِسۡطِ وَلَا تُخۡسِرُواْ ٱلۡمِيزَانَ ٩
And establish weight in justice and do not make deficient the balance.
55:10
وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَضَعَهَا لِلۡأَنَامِ ١٠
And the earth He laid [out] for the creatures.
55:11
فِيهَا فَٰكِهَةٞ وَٱلنَّخۡلُ ذَاتُ ٱلۡأَكۡمَامِ ١١
Therein is fruit and palm trees having sheaths [of dates]
55:12
وَٱلۡحَبُّ ذُو ٱلۡعَصۡفِ وَٱلرَّيۡحَانُ ١٢
And grain having husks and scented plants.
55:13
فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ١٣
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?1

55:14
خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مِن صَلۡصَٰلٖ كَٱلۡفَخَّارِ ١٤
He created man from clay like [that of] pottery.
55:15
وَخَلَقَ ٱلۡجَآنَّ مِن مَّارِجٖ مِّن نَّارٖ ١٥
And He created the jinn from a smokeless flame of fire.
55:16
فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ١٦
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
