Commentary on 55:5
وقوله تعالى: ﴿الشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ بِحُسْبَانٍ﴾ ذكرنا معنى الحسبان في قوله ﴿وَالشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ حُسْبَانًا﴾ [[عند تفسيره الآية (96) من سورة الأنعام. والحُسْبانُ: الحساب. قال أبو العباس: حسبانًا، مصدر كما تقول: حسبته أحسبه حسبانًا، وحسبانًا، وجعله الأخفش وأبو الهيثم: جمع حساب. انظر: "معاني القرآن" للأخفش 2/ 71، و"تهذيب اللغة" 4/ 328، و"اللسان" 1/ 629 (حسب).]]، قال جماعة المفسرين: يجريان بحساب ومنازل لا يعدوانها [[انظر: "تفسير عبد الرزاق" 2/ 262، و"جامع البيان" 27/ 67، و"الكشف والبيان" 12/ 33 ب، أ، و"معالم التنزيل" 4/ 267.]]، والمعنى فيه أنهما يدلان على عدد المشهور والسنين وجميع الأوقات، قال أبو إسحق: وخبر الابتداء يدل عليه قوله ﴿بِحُسْبَانٍ﴾؛ لأن المعنى: يجريان بحساب [[انظر: "معاني القرآن" للزجاج 5/ 95.]].
وروى السدي عن أبي مالك في هذه الآية قال: لهما حساب وأجل أجل الناس، فإذا جاء أجلهما هلكا [[أخرجه عبد بن حميد، وابن المنذر. انظر: "الدرر" 6/ 140، وذكره الثعلبي في "تفسيره" 12/ 34 أ، والقرطبي في "تفسيره" أيضًا 17/ 153.]]، وعلى هذا معنى الحساب حساب أيام جريهما إلى الإنقضاء، والقول هو الأول. 54:50
وَمَآ أَمۡرُنَآ إِلَّا وَٰحِدَةٞ كَلَمۡحِۭ بِٱلۡبَصَرِ ٥٠
And Our command is but one, like a glance of the eye.
54:51
وَلَقَدۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَآ أَشۡيَاعَكُمۡ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ ٥١
And We have already destroyed your kinds,1 so is there any who will remember?

54:52
وَكُلُّ شَيۡءٖ فَعَلُوهُ فِي ٱلزُّبُرِ ٥٢
And everything they did is in written records.
54:53
وَكُلُّ صَغِيرٖ وَكَبِيرٖ مُّسۡتَطَرٌ ٥٣
And every small and great [thing] is inscribed.
54:54
إِنَّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ فِي جَنَّٰتٖ وَنَهَرٖ ٥٤
Indeed, the righteous will be among gardens and rivers,
54:55
فِي مَقۡعَدِ صِدۡقٍ عِندَ مَلِيكٖ مُّقۡتَدِرِۭ ٥٥
In a seat of honor near a Sovereign, Perfect in Ability.1

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
55:1
ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنُ ١
The Most Merciful
55:2
عَلَّمَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ ٢
Taught the Qur’ān,
55:3
خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ ٣
Created man,
55:4
عَلَّمَهُ ٱلۡبَيَانَ ٤
[And] taught him eloquence.
55:5
ٱلشَّمۡسُ وَٱلۡقَمَرُ بِحُسۡبَانٖ ٥
The sun and the moon [move] by precise calculation,
55:6
وَٱلنَّجۡمُ وَٱلشَّجَرُ يَسۡجُدَانِ ٦
And the stars and trees prostrate.1

55:7
وَٱلسَّمَآءَ رَفَعَهَا وَوَضَعَ ٱلۡمِيزَانَ ٧
And the heaven He raised and imposed the balance
55:8
أَلَّا تَطۡغَوۡاْ فِي ٱلۡمِيزَانِ ٨
That you not transgress within the balance.
55:9
وَأَقِيمُواْ ٱلۡوَزۡنَ بِٱلۡقِسۡطِ وَلَا تُخۡسِرُواْ ٱلۡمِيزَانَ ٩
And establish weight in justice and do not make deficient the balance.
55:10
وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَضَعَهَا لِلۡأَنَامِ ١٠
And the earth He laid [out] for the creatures.
55:11
فِيهَا فَٰكِهَةٞ وَٱلنَّخۡلُ ذَاتُ ٱلۡأَكۡمَامِ ١١
Therein is fruit and palm trees having sheaths [of dates]
55:12
وَٱلۡحَبُّ ذُو ٱلۡعَصۡفِ وَٱلرَّيۡحَانُ ١٢
And grain having husks and scented plants.
55:13
فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ١٣
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?1

55:14
خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مِن صَلۡصَٰلٖ كَٱلۡفَخَّارِ ١٤
He created man from clay like [that of] pottery.
55:15
وَخَلَقَ ٱلۡجَآنَّ مِن مَّارِجٖ مِّن نَّارٖ ١٥
And He created the jinn from a smokeless flame of fire.
55:16
فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ١٦
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
