بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ٦٩
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

Commentary on 55:69–70
﴿فَبِأيِّ آلاءِ رَبِّكُما تُكَذِّبانِ﴾ وقَوْلُهُ تَعالى: ﴿فِيهِنَّ خَيْراتٌ﴾ صِفَةٌ أُخْرى لِجَنَّتانِ، أوْ خَبَرٌ بَعْدُ خَبَرٍ لِلْمُبْتَدَأِ المَحْذُوفِ كالجُمْلَةِ الَّتِي قَبْلَها،

ويَجُوزُ أنْ تَكُونَ مُسْتَأْنَفَةَ والكَلامُ في ضَمِيرِ الجَمْعِ هُنا كالكَلامِ فِيهِ في قَوْلِهِ تَعالى: ﴿فِيهِنَّ قاصِراتُ الطَّرْفِ﴾ [الرَّحْمَنِ: 56] ( وخَيْراتٌ ) قالَ أبُو حَيّانَ: جَمْعُ خَيْرَةٍ وصْفٌ بُنِيَ عَلى فِعَلَةٍ مِنَ الخَيْرِ كَما بَنَوْا مِنَ الشَّرِّ فَقالُوا شَرَّةٌ، وقالَ الزَّمَخْشَرِيُّ: أصْلُهُ «خَيِّراتٌ» بِالتَّشْدِيدِ فَخُفِّفَ كَقَوْلِهِ عَلَيْهِ الصَّلاةُ والسَّلامُ: ««هَيِّنُونَ لَيِّنُونَ»» ولَيْسَ جَمْعُ خَيِّرٍ بِمَعْنى أخْيَرَ فَإنَّهُ لا يُقالُ فِيهِ خَيِّرُونَ ولا خَيِّراتِ، ولَعَلَّهُ لِأنَّ أصْلَ اسْمِ التَّفْضِيلِ أنْ لا يَجْمَعُ خُصُوصًا إذا نُكِّرَ، وقَرَأ بَكْرُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ وأبُو عُثْمانَ النَّهْدَيِّ وابْنُ مُقْسِمٍ «خَيِّراتٌ» بِتَشْدِيدِ الياءِ وهو يُؤَيِّدُ أنَّ أصْلَهُ كَذَلِكَ، ورُوِيَ عَنْ أبِي عَمْرو «خَيَراتٌ» بِفَتْحِ الياءِ كَأنَّهُ جَمْعُ خائِرَةٍ جُمِعَ عَلى فِعْلَةِ ﴿حِسانٌ﴾ قِيلَ: أيْ حِسانِ الخُلُقِ والخَلْقِ.
وأخْرَجَ عَبْدُ الرَّزّاقِ وعَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ وابْنُ جَرِيرٍ عَنْ قَتادَةَ أنَّهُ قالَ في الآيَةِ: ﴿خَيْراتٌ﴾ الأخْلاقُ ﴿حِسانٌ﴾ الوُجُوهُ، وأخْرَجَ ذَلِكَ ابْنُ جَرِيرٍ والطَّبَرانِيُّ وابْنُ مَرْدُوَيْهِ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ مَرْفُوعًا.

55:68
فِيهِمَا فَٰكِهَةٞ وَنَخۡلٞ وَرُمَّانٞ ٦٨
In both of them are fruit and palm trees and pomegranates.
55:69
فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ٦٩
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
55:70
فِيهِنَّ خَيۡرَٰتٌ حِسَانٞ ٧٠
In them are good and beautiful women -
55:71
فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ٧١
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -
55:72
حُورٞ مَّقۡصُورَٰتٞ فِي ٱلۡخِيَامِ ٧٢
Fair ones reserved in pavilions -
55:73
فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ٧٣
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -
55:74
لَمۡ يَطۡمِثۡهُنَّ إِنسٞ قَبۡلَهُمۡ وَلَا جَآنّٞ ٧٤
Untouched before them by man or jinnī -
55:75
فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ٧٥
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -
55:76
مُتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَىٰ رَفۡرَفٍ خُضۡرٖ وَعَبۡقَرِيٍّ حِسَانٖ ٧٦
Reclining on green cushions and beautiful fine carpets.
55:77
فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ٧٧
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
55:78
تَبَٰرَكَ ٱسۡمُ رَبِّكَ ذِي ٱلۡجَلَٰلِ وَٱلۡإِكۡرَامِ ٧٨
Blessed is the name of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor.
سورة الواقعة
Al-Waqi'ah
The Inevitable · Meccan · 96 ayahs
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
56:1
إِذَا وَقَعَتِ ٱلۡوَاقِعَةُ ١
When the Occurrence occurs,
56:2
لَيۡسَ لِوَقۡعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ ٢
There is, at its occurrence, no denial.
56:3
خَافِضَةٞ رَّافِعَةٌ ٣
It will bring down [some] and raise up [others].1

56:4
إِذَا رُجَّتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ رَجّٗا ٤
When the earth is shaken with convulsion
56:5
وَبُسَّتِ ٱلۡجِبَالُ بَسّٗا ٥
And the mountains are broken down, crumbling
56:6
فَكَانَتۡ هَبَآءٗ مُّنۢبَثّٗا ٦
And become dust dispersing,
56:7
وَكُنتُمۡ أَزۡوَٰجٗا ثَلَٰثَةٗ ٧
And you become [of] three kinds:
56:8
فَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِ مَآ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِ ٨
Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right?1

56:9
وَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِ مَآ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِ ٩
And the companions of the left - what are companions of the left?1

56:10
وَٱلسَّٰبِقُونَ ٱلسَّٰبِقُونَ ١٠
And the forerunners, the forerunners1 -

- The words can also be understood as a complete sentence, i.e., "The forerunners [in good deeds] are the forerunners [in entering Paradise]." ↩
56:11
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ ٱلۡمُقَرَّبُونَ ١١
Those are the ones brought near [to Allāh]
56:12
فِي جَنَّٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ ١٢
In the Gardens of Pleasure,
56:13
ثُلَّةٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ ١٣
A [large] company of the former peoples
56:14
وَقَلِيلٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ ١٤
And a few of the later peoples,
56:15
عَلَىٰ سُرُرٖ مَّوۡضُونَةٖ ١٥
On thrones woven [with ornament],
56:16
مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَيۡهَا مُتَقَٰبِلِينَ ١٦
Reclining on them, facing each other.
