ٱعۡلَمُوٓاْ أَنَّمَا ٱلۡحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنۡيَا لَعِبٞ وَلَهۡوٞ وَزِينَةٞ وَتَفَاخُرُۢ بَيۡنَكُمۡ وَتَكَاثُرٞ فِي ٱلۡأَمۡوَٰلِ وَٱلۡأَوۡلَٰدِۖ كَمَثَلِ غَيۡثٍ أَعۡجَبَ ٱلۡكُفَّارَ نَبَاتُهُۥ ثُمَّ يَهِيجُ فَتَرَىٰهُ مُصۡفَرّٗا ثُمَّ يَكُونُ حُطَٰمٗاۖ وَفِي ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ عَذَابٞ شَدِيدٞ وَمَغۡفِرَةٞ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرِضۡوَٰنٞۚ وَمَا ٱلۡحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنۡيَآ إِلَّا مَتَٰعُ ٱلۡغُرُورِ ٢٠
Know that the life of this world is but amusement and diversion and adornment and boasting to one another and competition in increase of wealth and children - like the example of a rain whose [resulting] plant growth pleases the tillers; then it dries and you see it turned yellow; then it becomes [scattered] debris. And in the Hereafter is severe punishment and forgiveness from Allāh and approval. And what is the worldly life except the enjoyment of delusion.

Commentary on 57:20
﴿اعلموا أنما الحياة الدنيا لعب ولهو وزينة وتفاخر بينكم وتكاثر في الأموال والأولاد﴾: كلام مستأنف لا محل له من الإعراب، واعلموا فعل أمر مبني على حذف النون، والواو فاعل، وأن وما في حيزها سدت مسد مفعولي اعلموا، وأنما هنا كافة ومكفوفة، والحياة مبتدأ، والدنيا نعت لها، ولعب خبر الحياة، وما بعدها منسوق عليها، وبينكم ظرف متعلق بمحذوف صفة لتفاخر، وفي الأموال نعت لتكاثر والأولاد معطوف على الأموال.
﴿كمثل غيث أعجب الكفار نباته ثم يهيج فتراه مصفرا ثم يكون حطاما﴾: ﴿كمثل﴾ الكاف اسم بمعنى مثل مبني على الفتح في محل رفع خبر لمبتدأ محذوف، أو في محل نصب حال من معنى ما تقدم، أي: ثبتت لها هذه الصفة مشبهة بغيث، و﴿مثل﴾ مضاف إليه، وجملة ﴿أعجب﴾ نعت لغيث، والكفار مفعول مقدم لأعجب، وهم الزراع، ونباته فاعل مؤخر، ثم حرف عطف للترتيب مع التراخي، ويهيج فعل مضارع مرفوع، وفاعله هو يعود على النبات، فتراه عطف على يهيج، وفاعل تراه أنت، والهاء مفعول به، ومصفرًّا حال، ثم يكون حطامًا عطف على ما تقدم.
﴿وفي الآخرة عذاب شديد ومغفرة من الله ورضوان﴾: الواو عاطفة، و﴿في الآخرة﴾ جار ومجرور متعلقان بمحذوف خبر مقدم، وعذاب مبتدأ مؤخر، وشديد نعت لـ﴿عذاب﴾، ومغفرة عطف على عذاب، و﴿من الله﴾ جار ومجرور متعلقان بمحذوف صفة لمغفرة، ورضوان عطف على مغفرة.
﴿وما الحياة الدنيا إلا متاع الغرور﴾: الواو عاطفة، وما نافية، والحياة مبتدأ، والدنيا نعت لـ﴿الحياة﴾، وإلا أداة حصر، والغرور مضاف إليه.

57:19
وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ بِٱللَّهِ وَرُسُلِهِۦٓ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلصِّدِّيقُونَۖ وَٱلشُّهَدَآءُ عِندَ رَبِّهِمۡ لَهُمۡ أَجۡرُهُمۡ وَنُورُهُمۡۖ وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ وَكَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَآ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡجَحِيمِ ١٩
And those who have believed in Allāh and His messengers - those are [in the ranks of] the supporters of truth and the martyrs, with their Lord. For them is their reward and their light.1 But those who have disbelieved and denied Our verses - those are the companions of Hellfire.

57:21
سَابِقُوٓاْ إِلَىٰ مَغۡفِرَةٖ مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡ وَجَنَّةٍ عَرۡضُهَا كَعَرۡضِ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ أُعِدَّتۡ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ بِٱللَّهِ وَرُسُلِهِۦۚ ذَٰلِكَ فَضۡلُ ٱللَّهِ يُؤۡتِيهِ مَن يَشَآءُۚ وَٱللَّهُ ذُو ٱلۡفَضۡلِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ ٢١
Race [i.e., compete] toward forgiveness from your Lord and a Garden whose width is like the width of the heavens and earth, prepared for those who believed in Allāh and His messengers. That is the bounty of Allāh which He gives to whom He wills, and Allāh is the possessor of great bounty.
57:22
مَآ أَصَابَ مِن مُّصِيبَةٖ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَا فِيٓ أَنفُسِكُمۡ إِلَّا فِي كِتَٰبٖ مِّن قَبۡلِ أَن نَّبۡرَأَهَآۚ إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ يَسِيرٞ ٢٢
No disaster strikes upon the earth or among yourselves except that it is in a register1 before We bring it into being - indeed that, for Allāh, is easy -

57:23
لِّكَيۡلَا تَأۡسَوۡاْ عَلَىٰ مَا فَاتَكُمۡ وَلَا تَفۡرَحُواْ بِمَآ ءَاتَىٰكُمۡۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يُحِبُّ كُلَّ مُخۡتَالٖ فَخُورٍ ٢٣
In order that you not despair over what has eluded you and not exult [in pride] over what He has given you. And Allāh does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful -
57:24
ٱلَّذِينَ يَبۡخَلُونَ وَيَأۡمُرُونَ ٱلنَّاسَ بِٱلۡبُخۡلِۗ وَمَن يَتَوَلَّ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلۡغَنِيُّ ٱلۡحَمِيدُ ٢٤
[Those] who are stingy and enjoin upon people stinginess. And whoever turns away1 - then indeed, Allāh is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy.
