بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

وَلَا يَتَمَنَّوۡنَهُۥٓ أَبَدَۢا بِمَا قَدَّمَتۡ أَيۡدِيهِمۡۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمُۢ بِٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ ٧
But they will not wish for it, ever, because of what their hands have put forth. And Allāh is Knowing of the wrongdoers.

Commentary on 62:6–8
وقوله سبحانه: قُلْ يا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ هادُوا إِنْ زَعَمْتُمْ ... الآية، رُوِيَ أنها نزلتْ بسبب أنَّ يهودَ المدينةِ لَمَّا ظَهَرَ رسول الله ﷺ، خَاطَبُوا يهودَ خيبرَ في أمره، وذكرُوا لهم نبوَّتَه، وقالوا إن رأيتم اتَّبَاعَهُ أطَعْنَاكُمْ وإنْ رأيتم خِلاَفَه خَالَفْنَاه معكم، فجاءهَم جوابُ أهْلِ خيبرَ يقولونَ: نحن أبناءُ إبراهيمَ خليلِ الرحمن وأبناءُ عزيرِ بنُ اللَّهِ ومنا الأنبياءُ، ومتى كَانَتْ النبوةُ في العرب؟، نحن أحقُّ بالنبوةِ من محمدِ، ولا سبيلَ إلى اتباعهِ، فنزلتِ الآيةَ بمعنى:
أنكم إذا كنتم منَ اللَّهِ بهذه المنزلةِ فَقُرْبُهُ وفراقُ هذه الحياةِ الخسيسةِ أحبُّ إليكم، فَتَمَنَّوْا الموتَ إن كنتم تَعْتَقِدُون في أنفسِكم هذه المنزلة، ثم أخبر تعالى أنهم لا يتمنونه أبداً لعلمِهم بسوءِ حالِهم، ورَوَى كثيرٌ من المفسرينَ أن اللَّه- جَلَّتْ قُدْرَتُه- جَعَلَ هذه الآيةَ معجزةً لمحمدٍ نبيِّه ﷺ فِيهم، فَهِيَ آيةٌ باهرةٌ وأعلَمَه أنه إن تمنى أحدٌ منهمُ الموتَ في أيام معدوداتٍ مات وفارق الدنيا، فقال رسول الله ﷺ تَمَنّوُا الموتَ، على جهةِ التعجيزِ وإظهار الآيةِ، فما تَمَنَّاهُ أحد منهم خَوْفاً/ من الموتِ وثقة بصدق نبيّنا محمّد ﷺ.

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
62:1
يُسَبِّحُ لِلَّهِ مَا فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ ٱلۡمَلِكِ ٱلۡقُدُّوسِ ٱلۡعَزِيزِ ٱلۡحَكِيمِ ١
Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth is exalting Allāh,1 the Sovereign, the Pure, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.2
62:2
هُوَ ٱلَّذِي بَعَثَ فِي ٱلۡأُمِّيِّـۧنَ رَسُولٗا مِّنۡهُمۡ يَتۡلُواْ عَلَيۡهِمۡ ءَايَٰتِهِۦ وَيُزَكِّيهِمۡ وَيُعَلِّمُهُمُ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ وَٱلۡحِكۡمَةَ وَإِن كَانُواْ مِن قَبۡلُ لَفِي ضَلَٰلٖ مُّبِينٖ ٢
It is He who has sent among the unlettered [Arabs] a Messenger from themselves reciting to them His verses and purifying them and teaching them the Book [i.e., the Qur’ān] and wisdom [i.e., the sunnah] - although they were before in clear error -
62:3
وَءَاخَرِينَ مِنۡهُمۡ لَمَّا يَلۡحَقُواْ بِهِمۡۚ وَهُوَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلۡحَكِيمُ ٣
And [to] others of them who have not yet joined them. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
62:4
ذَٰلِكَ فَضۡلُ ٱللَّهِ يُؤۡتِيهِ مَن يَشَآءُۚ وَٱللَّهُ ذُو ٱلۡفَضۡلِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ ٤
That is the bounty of Allāh, which He gives to whom He wills, and Allāh is the possessor of great bounty.
62:5
مَثَلُ ٱلَّذِينَ حُمِّلُواْ ٱلتَّوۡرَىٰةَ ثُمَّ لَمۡ يَحۡمِلُوهَا كَمَثَلِ ٱلۡحِمَارِ يَحۡمِلُ أَسۡفَارَۢاۚ بِئۡسَ مَثَلُ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِۚ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهۡدِي ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ ٥
The example of those who were entrusted with the Torah and then did not take it on1 is like that of a donkey who carries volumes [of books].2 Wretched is the example of the people who deny the signs of Allāh. And Allāh does not guide the wrongdoing people.
62:6
قُلۡ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ هَادُوٓاْ إِن زَعَمۡتُمۡ أَنَّكُمۡ أَوۡلِيَآءُ لِلَّهِ مِن دُونِ ٱلنَّاسِ فَتَمَنَّوُاْ ٱلۡمَوۡتَ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَٰدِقِينَ ٦
Say, "O you who are Jews, if you claim that you are allies of Allāh, excluding the [other] people, then wish for death, if you should be truthful."
62:7
وَلَا يَتَمَنَّوۡنَهُۥٓ أَبَدَۢا بِمَا قَدَّمَتۡ أَيۡدِيهِمۡۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمُۢ بِٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ ٧
But they will not wish for it, ever, because of what their hands have put forth. And Allāh is Knowing of the wrongdoers.
62:8
قُلۡ إِنَّ ٱلۡمَوۡتَ ٱلَّذِي تَفِرُّونَ مِنۡهُ فَإِنَّهُۥ مُلَٰقِيكُمۡۖ ثُمَّ تُرَدُّونَ إِلَىٰ عَٰلِمِ ٱلۡغَيۡبِ وَٱلشَّهَٰدَةِ فَيُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ٨
Say, "Indeed, the death from which you flee - indeed, it will meet you. Then you will be returned to the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, and He will inform you about what you used to do."
