۞ وَإِلَىٰ عَادٍ أَخَاهُمۡ هُودٗاۚ قَالَ يَٰقَوۡمِ ٱعۡبُدُواْ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنۡ إِلَٰهٍ غَيۡرُهُۥٓۚ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ٦٥
And to the ʿAad [We sent] their brother Hūd. He said, "O my people, worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him. Then will you not fear Him?"

Commentary on 7:65
قوله تعالى وإلى عاد أخاهم هودا أي وأرسلنا إلى عاد أخاهم هودا . قال ابن عباس أي ابن أبيهم . وقيل : أخاهم في القبيلة . وقيل : أي بشرا من بني أبيهم آدم . وفي مصنف أبي داود أن أخاهم هودا أي صاحبهم . وعاد من ولد سام بن نوح . قال ابن إسحاق : وعاد هو ابن عوص بن إرم بن شالخ بن أرفخشد بن سام بن نوح عليه السلام . وهود هو هود بن عبد الله بن رباح بن الجلود بن عاد بن عوص بن إرم بن سام بن نوح . بعثه الله إلى عاد نبيا . وكان من أوسطهم نسبا وأفضلهم حسبا . و عاد من لم يصرفه جعله اسما للقبيلة ، ومن صرفه جعله اسما للحي . قال أبو حاتم : وفي حرف أبي وابن مسعود ( عاد الأولى ) بغير ألف . و " هود " أعجمي ، وانصرف لخفته ; لأنه على ثلاثة أحرف . وقد يجوز أن يكون عربيا مشتقا من هاد يهود . والنصب على البدل . وكان بين هود ونوح فيما ذكر المفسرون سبعة آباء . وكانت عاد فيما روي ثلاث عشرة قبيلة ، ينزلون الرمال ، رمل عالج . وكانوا أهل بساتين وزروع وعمارة ، وكانت بلادهم أخصب البلاد ، فسخط الله عليهم فجعلها مفاوز . وكانت فيما روي بنواحي حضرموت إلى اليمن ، وكانوا يعبدون الأصنام . ولحق هود حين أهلك قومه بمن آمن معه بمكة ، فلم يزالوا بها حتى ماتوا .

7:58
وَٱلۡبَلَدُ ٱلطَّيِّبُ يَخۡرُجُ نَبَاتُهُۥ بِإِذۡنِ رَبِّهِۦۖ وَٱلَّذِي خَبُثَ لَا يَخۡرُجُ إِلَّا نَكِدٗاۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نُصَرِّفُ ٱلۡأٓيَٰتِ لِقَوۡمٖ يَشۡكُرُونَ ٥٨
And the good land - its vegetation emerges by permission of its Lord; but that which is bad - nothing emerges except sparsely, with difficulty. Thus do We diversify the signs for a people who are grateful.
7:59
لَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوۡمِهِۦ فَقَالَ يَٰقَوۡمِ ٱعۡبُدُواْ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنۡ إِلَٰهٍ غَيۡرُهُۥٓ إِنِّيٓ أَخَافُ عَلَيۡكُمۡ عَذَابَ يَوۡمٍ عَظِيمٖ ٥٩
We had certainly sent Noah to his people, and he said, "O my people, worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him. Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a tremendous Day."
7:60
قَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ مِن قَوۡمِهِۦٓ إِنَّا لَنَرَىٰكَ فِي ضَلَٰلٖ مُّبِينٖ ٦٠
Said the eminent among his people, "Indeed, we see you in clear error."
7:61
قَالَ يَٰقَوۡمِ لَيۡسَ بِي ضَلَٰلَةٞ وَلَٰكِنِّي رَسُولٞ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ٦١
[Noah] said, "O my people, there is not error in me, but I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds.
7:62
أُبَلِّغُكُمۡ رِسَٰلَٰتِ رَبِّي وَأَنصَحُ لَكُمۡ وَأَعۡلَمُ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ ٦٢
I convey to you the messages of my Lord and advise you; and I know from Allāh what you do not know.
7:63
أَوَعَجِبۡتُمۡ أَن جَآءَكُمۡ ذِكۡرٞ مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡ عَلَىٰ رَجُلٖ مِّنكُمۡ لِيُنذِرَكُمۡ وَلِتَتَّقُواْ وَلَعَلَّكُمۡ تُرۡحَمُونَ ٦٣
Then do you wonder that there has come to you a reminder from your Lord through a man from among you, that he may warn you and that you may fear Allāh so you might receive mercy?"
7:64
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَنجَيۡنَٰهُ وَٱلَّذِينَ مَعَهُۥ فِي ٱلۡفُلۡكِ وَأَغۡرَقۡنَا ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَآۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ قَوۡمًا عَمِينَ ٦٤
But they denied him, so We saved him and those who were with him in the ship. And We drowned those who denied Our signs. Indeed, they were a blind people.1

7:65
۞ وَإِلَىٰ عَادٍ أَخَاهُمۡ هُودٗاۚ قَالَ يَٰقَوۡمِ ٱعۡبُدُواْ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنۡ إِلَٰهٍ غَيۡرُهُۥٓۚ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ٦٥
And to the ʿAad [We sent] their brother Hūd. He said, "O my people, worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him. Then will you not fear Him?"
7:66
قَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مِن قَوۡمِهِۦٓ إِنَّا لَنَرَىٰكَ فِي سَفَاهَةٖ وَإِنَّا لَنَظُنُّكَ مِنَ ٱلۡكَٰذِبِينَ ٦٦
Said the eminent ones who disbelieved among his people, "Indeed, we see you in foolishness, and indeed, we think you are of the liars."
7:67
قَالَ يَٰقَوۡمِ لَيۡسَ بِي سَفَاهَةٞ وَلَٰكِنِّي رَسُولٞ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ٦٧
[Hūd] said, "O my people, there is not foolishness in me, but I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds.
