But as for he who is given his record behind his back,

Commentary on 84:10
﴿وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ وَرَاءَ ظَهْرِهِ﴾ قال الكلبي: لأن يمينه مغلولة إلى عنقه، وتكون يده اليسرى خلف ظهره [["التفسير الكبير" 31/ 107، "فتح القدير" 5/ 407، كما ورد من غير عزو في: "معالم التنزيل" 4/ 464، الكشاف 4/ 198.]]. وقال مجاهد: تجعل يده وراء ظهره [["تفسير مجاهد" 714، "جامع البيان" 30/ 117، "الكشف والبيان" ج 13: 59/ ب، "معالم التنزيل" 4/ 464، "التفسير الكبير" 31/ 107، "الدر المنثور" 8/ 457، وعزاه إلى ابن المنذر.]]. وقال مقاتل: تخلع يده اليسرى فتكون وراء ظهره [[التفسير "الوسيط" 4/ 453، أما الذي ورد عنه في تفسيره: 234/ أقوله: يشق صدره حتى يخرج قلبه من وراء ظهره من بين كتفيه ..]] [[قول مقاتل قد كرر في: ع.]].
﴿فَسَوْفَ يَدْعُو﴾ إذا قرأ كتابه قال: (يا ويلاه [[في (أ): ياودله.]]، يا ثبوراه.) [[ما بين القوسين قال به الزجاج في: "معاني القرآن وإعرابه" 5/ 304.]] كقوله ﴿دَعَوْا هُنَالِكَ ثُبُورًا﴾ [الفرقان: 13].
﴿وَيَصْلَى سَعِيرًا﴾ (يقال صلى [[في (أ): أصلى.]] الكافر النار. قال الله تعالى: ﴿وَسَيَصْلَوْنَ سَعِيرًا﴾ [النساء: 10]) [[ما بين القوسين نقله عن الفارسي: "الحجة" 6/ 390 بيسير من التصرف.]] وقرئ [[في (أ): قرء.]]: "يُصلّى" بضم الياء وتشديد اللام [[قرأ بذلك ابن كثير، ونافع، وابن عامر، والكسائي، ووافقهم ابن محيصن، والحسن وقرأ عاصم، وأبو عمرو، وحمزة، وخلف، ويعقوب، وأبو جعفر "يَصْلَى" بفتح الياء وسكون الصاد وتخفيف اللام من صلى.
وقرأ عباس عن خارجة عن نافع: "ويَصْلى" خفيفة من أصليت.
وقرأ عباس عن أبان عن عاصم مثله: ويُصْلَى بضم الياء خفيف. == انظر: "كتاب السبعة" 677، "القراءات وعلل النحويين فيها" 2/ 761، "الحجة" 6/ 390، حجة القراءات: 755 - 756، "الكشف" 2/ 367، الإتحاف: 436، تجبير التيسير: 198.]].
وقوله: ﴿وَتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ﴾ [الواقعة: 94] [[في (أ): تصلية جهنم.]].

83:35
عَلَى ٱلۡأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ ٣٥
On adorned couches, observing.
83:36
هَلۡ ثُوِّبَ ٱلۡكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُواْ يَفۡعَلُونَ ٣٦
Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do?

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
84:1
إِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ ٱنشَقَّتۡ ١
When the sky has split [open]
84:2
وَأَذِنَتۡ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتۡ ٢
And has listened [i.e., responded]1 to its Lord and was obligated [to do so]

84:3
وَإِذَا ٱلۡأَرۡضُ مُدَّتۡ ٣
And when the earth has been extended1

84:4
وَأَلۡقَتۡ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتۡ ٤
And has cast out that within it1 and relinquished [it]

84:5
وَأَذِنَتۡ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتۡ ٥
And has listened [i.e., responded] to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] –
84:6
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدۡحٗا فَمُلَٰقِيهِ ٦
O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion1 and will meet it.2
84:7
فَأَمَّا مَنۡ أُوتِيَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ ٧
Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand,
84:8
فَسَوۡفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابٗا يَسِيرٗا ٨
He will be judged with an easy account
84:9
وَيَنقَلِبُ إِلَىٰٓ أَهۡلِهِۦ مَسۡرُورٗا ٩
And return to his people in happiness.
84:10
وَأَمَّا مَنۡ أُوتِيَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ وَرَآءَ ظَهۡرِهِۦ ١٠
But as for he who is given his record behind his back,
84:11
فَسَوۡفَ يَدۡعُواْ ثُبُورٗا ١١
He will cry out for destruction
84:12
وَيَصۡلَىٰ سَعِيرًا ١٢
And [enter to] burn in a Blaze.
84:13
إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فِيٓ أَهۡلِهِۦ مَسۡرُورًا ١٣
Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness;
84:14
إِنَّهُۥ ظَنَّ أَن لَّن يَحُورَ ١٤
Indeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allāh].
84:15
بَلَىٰٓۚ إِنَّ رَبَّهُۥ كَانَ بِهِۦ بَصِيرٗا ١٥
But yes! Indeed, his Lord was ever, of him, Seeing.
84:16
فَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِٱلشَّفَقِ ١٦
So I swear by the twilight glow
84:17
وَٱلَّيۡلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ ١٧
And [by] the night and what it envelops
84:18
وَٱلۡقَمَرِ إِذَا ٱتَّسَقَ ١٨
And [by] the moon when it becomes full
84:19
لَتَرۡكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَن طَبَقٖ ١٩
[That] you will surely embark upon [i.e., experience] state after state.1

فَمَا لَهُمۡ لَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ ٢٠
So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe,
84:21
وَإِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيۡهِمُ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانُ لَا يَسۡجُدُونَۤ۩ ٢١
And when the Qur’ān is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allāh]?
84:22
بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ يُكَذِّبُونَ ٢٢
But those who have disbelieved deny,
84:23
وَٱللَّهُ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَ ٢٣
And Allāh is most knowing of what they keep within themselves.
84:24
فَبَشِّرۡهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ ٢٤
So give them tidings of a painful punishment,
84:25
إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ لَهُمۡ أَجۡرٌ غَيۡرُ مَمۡنُونِۭ ٢٥
Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted.
