بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

وَٱللَّهُ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَ ٢٣
And Allāh is most knowing of what they keep within themselves.

﴿واللَّهُ أعْلَمُ بِما يُوعُونَ﴾ أيْ: بِالَّذِي يُضْمِرُونَهُ في صُدُورِهِمْ مِنَ الكُفْرِ والحَسَدِ والبَغْضاءِ والبَغْيِ، فَما مَوْصُولَةٌ، والعائِدُ مَحْذُوفٌ، وأصْلُ الإيعاءِ جَعْلُ الشَّيْءِ في وِعاءٍ. وفي مُفْرَداتِ الرّاغِبِ: الإيعاءُ: حِفْظُ الأمْتِعَةِ في وِعاءٍ ومِنهُ قَوْلُهُ:
والشَّرُّ أخْبَثُ ما أوْعَيْتَ مِن زادِ.
وأُرِيدَ بِهِ هُنا الإضْمارُ مَجازًا، وهو المَرْوِيُّ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبّاسٍ، ولا يَلْزَمُ عَلَيْهِ كَوْنُ الآيَةِ في حَقِّ المُنافِقِينَ مَعَ كَوْنِ السُّورَةِ مَكِّيَّةً كَما لا يَخْفى، وفَسَّرَهُ بَعْضُهم بِالجَمْعِ، وحُكِيَ عَنِ ابْنِ زَيْدٍ، وجُوِّزَ أنْ يَكُونَ المَعْنى واللَّهُ تَعالى أعْلَمُ بِما يَجْمَعُونَهُ في صُحُفِهِمْ مِن أعْمالِ السُّوءِ، وأيًّا ما كانَ فَعِلْمُ اللَّهِ تَعالى بِذَلِكَ كِنايَةٌ عَنْ مُجازاتِهِ سُبْحانَهُ عَلَيْهِ. وقِيلَ: المُرادُ الإشارَةُ إلى أنَّ لَهم وراءَ التَّكْذِيبِ قَبائِحَ عَظِيمَةً كَثِيرَةً يَضِيقُ عَنْ شَرْحِها نِطاقُ العِبارَةِ. وقالَ بَعْضُهُمْ: يُحْتَمَلُ أنْ يَكُونَ المَعْنى واللَّهُ تَعالى أعْلَمُ بِما يُضْمِرُونَهُ في أنْفُسِهِمْ مِن أدِلَّةِ كَوْنِهِ أيِ القُرْآنِ حَقًّا فَيَكُونُ المُرادُ المُبالَغَةَ في عِنادِهِمْ وتَكْذِيبِهِمْ عَلى خِلافِ عِلْمِهِمْ، والظّاهِرُ أنَّ الجُمْلَةَ عَلى هَذا حالٌ مِن ضَمِيرِ ﴿يُكَذِّبُونَ﴾ وكَوْنُها كَذَلِكَ عَلى ما قِيلَ مِنَ الإشارَةِ خِلافُ الظّاهِرِ. وقَرَأ أبُو رَجاءٍ: «بِما يَعُونَ» مِن وعى يَعِ.

83:35
عَلَى ٱلۡأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ ٣٥
On adorned couches, observing.
83:36
هَلۡ ثُوِّبَ ٱلۡكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُواْ يَفۡعَلُونَ ٣٦
Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do?

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
84:1
إِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ ٱنشَقَّتۡ ١
When the sky has split [open]
84:2
وَأَذِنَتۡ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتۡ ٢
And has listened [i.e., responded]1 to its Lord and was obligated [to do so]

84:3
وَإِذَا ٱلۡأَرۡضُ مُدَّتۡ ٣
And when the earth has been extended1

84:4
وَأَلۡقَتۡ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتۡ ٤
And has cast out that within it1 and relinquished [it]

- Of the dead and all else buried therein. ↩
84:5
وَأَذِنَتۡ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتۡ ٥
And has listened [i.e., responded] to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] –
84:6
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدۡحٗا فَمُلَٰقِيهِ ٦
O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion1 and will meet it.2
84:7
فَأَمَّا مَنۡ أُوتِيَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ ٧
Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand,
84:8
فَسَوۡفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابٗا يَسِيرٗا ٨
He will be judged with an easy account
84:9
وَيَنقَلِبُ إِلَىٰٓ أَهۡلِهِۦ مَسۡرُورٗا ٩
And return to his people in happiness.
84:10
وَأَمَّا مَنۡ أُوتِيَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ وَرَآءَ ظَهۡرِهِۦ ١٠
But as for he who is given his record behind his back,
84:11
فَسَوۡفَ يَدۡعُواْ ثُبُورٗا ١١
He will cry out for destruction
84:12
وَيَصۡلَىٰ سَعِيرًا ١٢
And [enter to] burn in a Blaze.
84:13
إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فِيٓ أَهۡلِهِۦ مَسۡرُورًا ١٣
Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness;
84:14
إِنَّهُۥ ظَنَّ أَن لَّن يَحُورَ ١٤
Indeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allāh].
84:15
بَلَىٰٓۚ إِنَّ رَبَّهُۥ كَانَ بِهِۦ بَصِيرٗا ١٥
But yes! Indeed, his Lord was ever, of him, Seeing.
84:16
فَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِٱلشَّفَقِ ١٦
So I swear by the twilight glow
84:17
وَٱلَّيۡلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ ١٧
And [by] the night and what it envelops
84:18
وَٱلۡقَمَرِ إِذَا ٱتَّسَقَ ١٨
And [by] the moon when it becomes full
84:19
لَتَرۡكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَن طَبَقٖ ١٩
[That] you will surely embark upon [i.e., experience] state after state.1

84:20
فَمَا لَهُمۡ لَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ ٢٠
So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe,
84:21
وَإِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيۡهِمُ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانُ لَا يَسۡجُدُونَۤ۩ ٢١
And when the Qur’ān is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allāh]?
84:22
بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ يُكَذِّبُونَ ٢٢
But those who have disbelieved deny,
84:23
وَٱللَّهُ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَ ٢٣
And Allāh is most knowing of what they keep within themselves.
84:24
فَبَشِّرۡهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ ٢٤
So give them tidings of a painful punishment,
84:25
إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ لَهُمۡ أَجۡرٌ غَيۡرُ مَمۡنُونِۭ ٢٥
Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted.
