بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
Al-Fajr 89:28

ٱرۡجِعِيٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةٗ مَّرۡضِيَّةٗ ٢٨
Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him],

Commentary on 89:28
﴿ارْجِعِي﴾ أيْ: مِن حَيْثُ حُوسِبْتِ.
﴿إلى رَبِّكِ﴾ أيْ: إلى مَحَلِّ عِنايَتِهِ تَعالى ومَوْقِفِ كَرامَتِهِ عَزَّ وجَلَّ لَكِ أوَّلًا، وهَذا لِأنَّ لِلسُّعَداءِ قَبْلَ الحِسابِ كَما يُفْهَمُ مِنَ الأخْبارِ مَوْقِفًا في المَحْشَرِ مَخْصُوصًا يُكْرِمُهُمُ اللَّهُ تَعالى بِهِ لا يَجِدُونَ فِيهِ ما يَجِدُهُ غَيْرُهم في مَواقِفِهِمْ مِنَ النَّصَبِ، ومِنهُ يُنادى الواحِدُ بَعْدَ الواحِدِ لِلْحِسابِ، فَمَتى كانَ هَذا القَوْلُ عِنْدَ تَمامِ الحِسابِ

اقْتَضى أنْ يَكُونَ المَعْنى ما ذُكِرَ، ويَجُوزُ أنْ يَكُونَ المَعْنى: ارْجِعِي بِتَخْلِيَةِ القَلْبِ عَنِ الأعْمالِ والِالتِفاتِ إلَيْها والِاهْتِمامِ بِأمْرِها أتُقْبَلُ أمْ لا، أيْ: إلى مُلاحَظَةِ ( رَبِّكِ ) والِانْقِطاعِ إلَيْهِ وتَرْكِ الِالتِفاتِ إلى ما سِواهُ عَزَّ وجَلَّ كَما كُنْتِ أوَّلًا، كَأنَّ النَّفْسَ المُطْمَئِنَّةَ لَمّا دُعِيَتْ لِلْحِسابِ شُغِلَ فِكْرُها، وإنْ كانَتْ مُطَمْئِنَةً بِمُقْتَضى الطَّبِيعَةِ وحالِ اليَوْمِ بِأمْرِ الحِسابِ وما يَنْتَهِي إلَيْهِ وأنَّهُ ماذا يَكُونُ حالُ أعْمالِها أتُقْبَلُ أمْ لا، فَلَمّا تَمَّ حِسابُها وقُبِلَتْ أعْمالُها قِيلَ لَها ذَلِكَ تَطْيِيبًا لِقَلْبِها بِأنَّ الأمْرَ قَدِ انْتَهى وفُرِغَ مِنهُ، ولَيْسَ بَعْدُ إلّا كُلُّ خَيْرٍ. ونِداؤُها بِعُنْوانِ الِاطْمِئْنانِ لِتَذْكِيرِها بِما يَقْتَضِي الرُّجُوعَ نَظِيرَ قَوْلِكَ لِشُجاعٍ مَشْهُورٍ بِالشَّجاعَةِ أحْجَمَ في بَعْضِ المَواقِفِ: يا أيُّها الشُّجاعُ، أقْدِمْ ولا تُحْجِمْ، والظّاهِرُ أنَّهُ عَلى الأوَّلِ لا يُناسِبُها ولا يَخْفى ما في قَوْلِهِ سُبْحانَهُ: ﴿إلى رَبِّكِ﴾ عَلى الوَجْهَيْنِ مِن مَزِيدِ اللُّطْفِ بِها، ولِذا لَمْ يَقُلْ نَحْوَ: ارْجِعِي إلى اللَّهِ تَعالى أوْ «إلَيَّ راضِيَةً»؛ أيْ: بِما تُؤْتَيْنَهُ مِنَ النِّعَمِ الَّتِي لا تَتَناهى، وقَدْ يُقالُ: راضِيَةً بِما نِلْتِيهِ مِن خِفَّةِ الحِسابِ وقَبُولِ الأعْمالِ ولَيْسَ بِذاكَ.
﴿مَرْضِيَّةً﴾ أيْ: عِنْدَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وجَلَّ قِيلَ: المُرادُ راضِيَةً عَنْ رَبِّكَ مَرْضِيَّةً عِنْدَهُ، وزُعِمَ أنَّهُ الأظْهَرُ واعْتُرِضَ بِأنَّهُ غَيْرُ مُناسِبٍ لِلسِّياقِ وفِيهِ نَظَرٌ. والوَصْفانِ مَنصُوبانِ عَلى الحالِ، والظّاهِرُ أنَّ الحالَ الأُولى مُقَدَّرَةٌ، وقِيلَ: مُقارِنَةٌ، وذِكْرُ الحالِ الثّانِيَةِ مِن بابِ التَّرَقِّي فَقَدْ قالَ سُبْحانَهُ وتَعالى: ﴿ورِضْوانٌ مِنَ اللَّهِ أكْبَرُ﴾ .

89:24
يَقُولُ يَٰلَيۡتَنِي قَدَّمۡتُ لِحَيَاتِي ٢٤
He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life."1

89:25
فَيَوۡمَئِذٖ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُۥٓ أَحَدٞ ٢٥
So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment,
89:26
وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُۥٓ أَحَدٞ ٢٦
And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers].
89:27
يَٰٓأَيَّتُهَا ٱلنَّفۡسُ ٱلۡمُطۡمَئِنَّةُ ٢٧
[To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul,
89:28
ٱرۡجِعِيٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةٗ مَّرۡضِيَّةٗ ٢٨
Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him],
89:29
فَٱدۡخُلِي فِي عِبَٰدِي ٢٩
And enter among My [righteous] servants
89:30
وَٱدۡخُلِي جَنَّتِي ٣٠
And enter My Paradise."
سورة البلد
Al-Balad
The City · Meccan · 20 ayahs
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
90:1
لَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِهَٰذَا ٱلۡبَلَدِ ١
I swear by this city [i.e., Makkah] –
90:2
وَأَنتَ حِلُّۢ بِهَٰذَا ٱلۡبَلَدِ ٢
And you, [O Muḥammad], are free of restriction in this city –
90:3
وَوَالِدٖ وَمَا وَلَدَ ٣
And [by] the father1 and that which was born [of him],

90:4
لَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ فِي كَبَدٍ ٤
We have certainly created man into hardship.
90:5
أَيَحۡسَبُ أَن لَّن يَقۡدِرَ عَلَيۡهِ أَحَدٞ ٥
Does he think that never will anyone overcome him?
90:6
يَقُولُ أَهۡلَكۡتُ مَالٗا لُّبَدًا ٦
He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance."
90:7
أَيَحۡسَبُ أَن لَّمۡ يَرَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ ٧
Does he think that no one has seen him?
90:8
أَلَمۡ نَجۡعَل لَّهُۥ عَيۡنَيۡنِ ٨
Have We not made for him two eyes?
90:9
وَلِسَانٗا وَشَفَتَيۡنِ ٩
And a tongue and two lips?
90:10
وَهَدَيۡنَٰهُ ٱلنَّجۡدَيۡنِ ١٠
And have shown him the two ways?1

فَلَا ٱقۡتَحَمَ ٱلۡعَقَبَةَ ١١
But he has not broken through the difficult pass.1

- i.e., the steep incline or obstacle. In other words, he has not spent in the cause of Allāh but only boasts of spending in front of others. ↩
90:12
وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلۡعَقَبَةُ ١٢
And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass?
90:13
فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ ١٣
It is the freeing of a slave
90:14
أَوۡ إِطۡعَٰمٞ فِي يَوۡمٖ ذِي مَسۡغَبَةٖ ١٤
Or feeding on a day of severe hunger
90:15
يَتِيمٗا ذَا مَقۡرَبَةٍ ١٥
An orphan of near relationship
90:16
أَوۡ مِسۡكِينٗا ذَا مَتۡرَبَةٖ ١٦
Or a needy person in misery
90:17
ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلصَّبۡرِ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلۡمَرۡحَمَةِ ١٧
And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion.
90:18
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِ ١٨
Those are the companions of the right.1

90:19
وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا هُمۡ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِ ١٩
But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left.1

90:20
عَلَيۡهِمۡ نَارٞ مُّؤۡصَدَةُۢ ٢٠
Over them will be fire closed in.1
