بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
Ad-Duhaa 93:9

فَأَمَّا ٱلۡيَتِيمَ فَلَا تَقۡهَرۡ ٩
So as for the orphan, do not oppress [him].

Commentary on 93:9
ثم أوصاه باليتامى والفقراء فقال: ( فأما اليتيم فلا تقهر ) قال مجاهد : لا تحقر اليتيم فقد كنت يتيما . وقال الفراء والزجاج : لا تقهره على ماله فتذهب بحقه لضعفه ، وكذا كانت العرب تفعل في أمر اليتامى ، تأخذ أموالهم وتظلمهم حقوقهم .
أخبرنا أبو بكر محمد عبد الله بن أبي توبة ، أخبرنا أبو طاهر محمد بن أحمد بن الحارث ، أخبرنا أبو الحسن محمد بن يعقوب الكسائي ، أخبرنا [ عبد الله ] بن محمود ، أخبرنا أبو إسحاق إبراهيم بن الخلال ، حدثنا عبد الله بن المبارك عن سعيد بن أبي أيوب عن يحيى [ بن ] سليمان عن يزيد بن أبي عتاب عن أبي هريرة عن النبي - صلى الله عليه وسلم - قال : " خير بيت في المسلمين بيت فيه يتيم يحسن إليه ، وشر بيت في المسلمين بيت فيه يتيم يساء إليه " ، ثم قال بأصبعيه : " أنا وكافل اليتيم [ في الجنة ] هكذا [ وهو يشير ] بأصبعيه [ السبابة والوسطى ] " .

92:15
لَا يَصۡلَىٰهَآ إِلَّا ٱلۡأَشۡقَى ١٥
None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one
92:16
ٱلَّذِي كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ ١٦
Who had denied and turned away.
92:17
وَسَيُجَنَّبُهَا ٱلۡأَتۡقَى ١٧
But the righteous one will avoid it –
92:18
ٱلَّذِي يُؤۡتِي مَالَهُۥ يَتَزَكَّىٰ ١٨
[He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself
92:19
وَمَا لِأَحَدٍ عِندَهُۥ مِن نِّعۡمَةٖ تُجۡزَىٰٓ ١٩
And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded1 –

- i.e., without intending reciprocation for some benefit to himself. ↩
92:20
إِلَّا ٱبۡتِغَآءَ وَجۡهِ رَبِّهِ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰ ٢٠
But only seeking the face [i.e., acceptance] of his Lord, Most High.
92:21
وَلَسَوۡفَ يَرۡضَىٰ ٢١
And he is going to be satisfied.
سورة الضحى
Ad-Duhaa
The Morning Hours · Meccan · 11 ayahs
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
93:1
وَٱلضُّحَىٰ ١
By the morning brightness
93:2
وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذَا سَجَىٰ ٢
And [by] the night when it covers with darkness,1

- And becomes still. ↩
93:3
مَا وَدَّعَكَ رَبُّكَ وَمَا قَلَىٰ ٣
Your Lord has not taken leave of you, [O Muḥammad], nor has He detested [you].
93:4
وَلَلۡأٓخِرَةُ خَيۡرٞ لَّكَ مِنَ ٱلۡأُولَىٰ ٤
And the Hereafter is better for you than the first [life].
93:5
وَلَسَوۡفَ يُعۡطِيكَ رَبُّكَ فَتَرۡضَىٰٓ ٥
And your Lord is going to give you, and you will be satisfied.
93:6
أَلَمۡ يَجِدۡكَ يَتِيمٗا فَـَٔاوَىٰ ٦
Did He not find you an orphan and give [you] refuge?
93:7
وَوَجَدَكَ ضَآلّٗا فَهَدَىٰ ٧
And He found you lost and guided [you],
93:8
وَوَجَدَكَ عَآئِلٗا فَأَغۡنَىٰ ٨
And He found you poor and made [you] self-sufficient.
93:9
فَأَمَّا ٱلۡيَتِيمَ فَلَا تَقۡهَرۡ ٩
So as for the orphan, do not oppress [him].
93:10
وَأَمَّا ٱلسَّآئِلَ فَلَا تَنۡهَرۡ ١٠
And as for the petitioner,1 do not repel [him].

93:11
وَأَمَّا بِنِعۡمَةِ رَبِّكَ فَحَدِّثۡ ١١
But as for the favor of your Lord, report [it].
سورة الشرح
Ash-Sharh
The Relief · Meccan · 8 ayahs
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
94:1
أَلَمۡ نَشۡرَحۡ لَكَ صَدۡرَكَ ١
Did We not expand for you, [O Muḥammad], your breast?1

- i.e., enlighten, assure and gladden your heart with guidance. ↩
94:2
وَوَضَعۡنَا عَنكَ وِزۡرَكَ ٢
And We removed from you your burden1

- By forgiving any errors which you may have committed previously or might commit consequently. "Burden" can also refer to the anxiety experienced by the Prophet (ﷺ) at the beginning of his mission. ↩
94:3
ٱلَّذِيٓ أَنقَضَ ظَهۡرَكَ ٣
Which had weighed upon your back
94:4
وَرَفَعۡنَا لَكَ ذِكۡرَكَ ٤
And raised high for you your repute.
94:5
فَإِنَّ مَعَ ٱلۡعُسۡرِ يُسۡرًا ٥
For indeed, with hardship [will be] ease [i.e., relief].
94:6
إِنَّ مَعَ ٱلۡعُسۡرِ يُسۡرٗا ٦
Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.
94:7
فَإِذَا فَرَغۡتَ فَٱنصَبۡ ٧
So when you have finished [your duties], then stand up [for worship].
94:8
وَإِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَٱرۡغَب ٨
And to your Lord direct [your] longing.
