لَمۡ يَكُنِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مِنۡ أَهۡلِ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ وَٱلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ مُنفَكِّينَ حَتَّىٰ تَأۡتِيَهُمُ ٱلۡبَيِّنَةُ ١
Those who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists were not to be parted [from misbelief]1 until there came to them clear evidence –

Commentary on 98:1–3
* الإعراب:
(يكن) مضارع ناقص مجزوم، وحرّك بالكسر لالتقاء الساكنين (الذين) موصول اسم يكن في محلّ رفع (من أهل) متعلّق بحال من فاعل كفروا (حتّى) حرف غاية وجرّ (تأتيهم) مضارع منصوب بأن مضمرة بعد حتّى..
والمصدر المؤوّل (أن تأتيهم..) في محلّ جرّ ب (حتّى) متعلّق ب (منفكّين) [[إذا كان (منفكّين) اسم فاعل للفعل الناقص (ما انفكّ) ، فالتعليق يكون في خبر مقدّر أي: لا يزالون مقيمين على كفرهم حتّى تأتيهم البيّنة.]] .
جملة: «لم يكن الذين ... » لا محلّ لها ابتدائيّة.
وجملة: «كفروا ... » لا محلّ لها صلة الموصول (الذين) .
وجملة: «تأتيهم ... » لا محلّ لها صلة الموصول الحرفيّ (أن) المضمر.
2- 3 (رسول) بدل اشتمال من البيّنة [[أو بدل مطابق على سبيل المبالغة.. أو هو خبر لمبتدأ محذوف.]] ، (من الله) متعلّق بنعت ل (رسول) [[أو متعلّق برسول على أنه مشتقّ.]] ، (فيها) متعلّق بخبر مقدّم للمبتدأ (كتب) .
وجملة: «يتلو ... » في محلّ رفع نعت لرسول [[أو في محلّ نصب حال من رسول لتخصّصه بالوصف.]] .
وجملة: «فيها كتب ... » في محلّ نصب نعت ل (صحفا) .
* الصرف:
(منفكّين) ، اسم فاعل من الخماسيّ انفكّ، جمع منفكّ، وزنه منفعل بضمّ الميم وكسر العين، وجاءت عينه ولامه من حرف واحد.

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
97:1
إِنَّآ أَنزَلۡنَٰهُ فِي لَيۡلَةِ ٱلۡقَدۡرِ ١
Indeed, We sent it [i.e., the Qur’ān] down during the Night of Decree.
97:2
وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا لَيۡلَةُ ٱلۡقَدۡرِ ٢
And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree?
97:3
لَيۡلَةُ ٱلۡقَدۡرِ خَيۡرٞ مِّنۡ أَلۡفِ شَهۡرٖ ٣
The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months.
97:4
تَنَزَّلُ ٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ فِيهَا بِإِذۡنِ رَبِّهِم مِّن كُلِّ أَمۡرٖ ٤
The angels and the Spirit [i.e., Gabriel] descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter.1

97:5
سَلَٰمٌ هِيَ حَتَّىٰ مَطۡلَعِ ٱلۡفَجۡرِ ٥
Peace it is1 until the emergence of dawn.

98:1
لَمۡ يَكُنِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مِنۡ أَهۡلِ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ وَٱلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ مُنفَكِّينَ حَتَّىٰ تَأۡتِيَهُمُ ٱلۡبَيِّنَةُ ١

رَسُولٞ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ يَتۡلُواْ صُحُفٗا مُّطَهَّرَةٗ ٢
A Messenger from Allāh, reciting purified1 scriptures

98:3
فِيهَا كُتُبٞ قَيِّمَةٞ ٣
Within which are correct writings [i.e., rulings and laws].
98:4
وَمَا تَفَرَّقَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا جَآءَتۡهُمُ ٱلۡبَيِّنَةُ ٤
Nor did those who were given the Scripture become divided1 until after there had come to them clear evidence.

98:5
وَمَآ أُمِرُوٓاْ إِلَّا لِيَعۡبُدُواْ ٱللَّهَ مُخۡلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ حُنَفَآءَ وَيُقِيمُواْ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَيُؤۡتُواْ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَۚ وَذَٰلِكَ دِينُ ٱلۡقَيِّمَةِ ٥
And they were not commanded except to worship Allāh, [being] sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer and to give zakāh. And that is the correct religion.
98:6
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مِنۡ أَهۡلِ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ وَٱلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ فِي نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآۚ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمۡ شَرُّ ٱلۡبَرِيَّةِ ٦
Indeed, they who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists will be in the fire of Hell, abiding eternally therein. Those are the worst of creatures.
98:7
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمۡ خَيۡرُ ٱلۡبَرِيَّةِ ٧
Indeed, they who have believed and done righteous deeds - those are the best of creatures.
