Commentary on 106:3
﴿فَلۡیَعۡبُدُوا۟ رَبَّ هَـٰذَا ٱلۡبَیۡتِ ٣﴾ - تفسير
٨٥٠٥٨- عن إبراهيم النَّخْعي، قال: صَلّى عمر بن الخطاب بالناس بمكة عند البيت، فقرأ: ﴿لِإيلافِ قُرَيْشٍ﴾، قال: ﴿فَلْيَعْبُدُوا رَبَّ هَذا البَيْتِ﴾ وجعل يومئ بإصبعه إلى الكعبة، وهو في الصلاة[[أخرجه ابن أبي شيبة ٢/٤٩٢، وابن جرير ٢٤/٦٥٢. وعزاه السيوطي إلى سعيد بن منصور، وابن المنذر.]]. (١٥/٦٧١)
٨٥٠٥٩- عن عبد الله بن عباس -من طريق سعيد- في قوله: ﴿فَلْيَعْبُدُوا رَبَّ هَذا البَيْتِ﴾، قال: الكعبة[[أخرجه ابن جرير ٢٤/٦٥٣، وابن أبي حاتم -كما في فتح الباري ٨/٧٣٠ مختصرًا-، والضياء في المختارة ١٠/١٢٥ (١٢٥، ١٢٦). وعزاه السيوطي إلى ابن مردويه.]]. (١٥/٦٧٢)
٨٥٠٦٠- عن عكرمة مولى ابن عباس -من طريق داود- قال: كانت قريشٌ قد ألفوا بصرى واليمن، يختلفون إلى هذه في الشتاء وإلى هذه في الصيف، ﴿فَلْيَعْبُدُوا رَبَّ هَذا البَيْتِ﴾ فأمرهم أن يقيموا بمكة[[أخرجه ابن جرير ٢٤/٦٥١.]]. (ز)
٨٥٠٦١- قال مقاتل بن سليمان: ﴿فَلْيَعْبُدُوا رَبَّ هذا البَيْتِ﴾ لأنّ ربّ هذا البيت كفاهم مؤنة الخوف والجوع، فليألفوا العبادة له، كما ألِفوا الحبشة، ولم يكونوا يرجونهم[[تفسير مقاتل بن سليمان ٤/٨٦٢.]]. (ز)

Quraysh

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
106:1
لِإِيلَٰفِ قُرَيۡشٍ ١
For the accustomed security of the Quraysh1 -

- i.e., the honor and reputation Allāh had given them as guardians of the Holy Kaʿbah, which allowed them to travel without fear of being harmed. ↩
106:2
إِۦلَٰفِهِمۡ رِحۡلَةَ ٱلشِّتَآءِ وَٱلصَّيۡفِ ٢
Their accustomed security [in] the caravan of winter and summer1 -

106:3
فَلۡيَعۡبُدُواْ رَبَّ هَٰذَا ٱلۡبَيۡتِ ٣
Let them worship the Lord of this House,1

ٱلَّذِيٓ أَطۡعَمَهُم مِّن جُوعٖ وَءَامَنَهُم مِّنۡ خَوۡفِۭ ٤
Who has fed them, [saving them] from hunger and made them safe, [saving them] from fear.
سورة الماعون
Al-Ma'un
The Small kindnesses · Meccan · 7 ayahs
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
107:1
أَرَءَيۡتَ ٱلَّذِي يُكَذِّبُ بِٱلدِّينِ ١
Have you seen the one who denies the Recompense?
107:2
فَذَٰلِكَ ٱلَّذِي يَدُعُّ ٱلۡيَتِيمَ ٢
For that is the one who drives away the orphan
107:3
وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ ٣
And does not encourage the feeding of the poor.
107:4
فَوَيۡلٞ لِّلۡمُصَلِّينَ ٤
So woe to those who pray
107:5
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ عَن صَلَاتِهِمۡ سَاهُونَ ٥
[But] who are heedless of their prayer1 -

- i.e., the hypocrites who are unconcerned if they miss prayers when no one sees them. ↩
107:6
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ يُرَآءُونَ ٦
Those who make show [of their deeds]
107:7
وَيَمۡنَعُونَ ٱلۡمَاعُونَ ٧
And withhold [simple] assistance.
سورة الكوثر
Al-Kawthar
The Abundance · Meccan · 3 ayahs
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
108:1
إِنَّآ أَعۡطَيۡنَٰكَ ٱلۡكَوۡثَرَ ١
Indeed, We have granted you, [O Muḥammad], al-Kawthar.
108:2
فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَٱنۡحَرۡ ٢
So pray to your Lord and offer sacrifice [to Him alone].
108:3
إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ ٱلۡأَبۡتَرُ ٣
Indeed, your enemy is the one cut off.1
