بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Quraysh 106:4

ٱلَّذِيٓ أَطۡعَمَهُم مِّن جُوعٖ وَءَامَنَهُم مِّنۡ خَوۡفِۭ ٤
Who has fed them, [saving them] from hunger and made them safe, [saving them] from fear.

Commentary on 106:3–4
وَقَوله: ﴿فليعبدوا رب هَذَا الْبَيْت الَّذِي أطْعمهُم من جوع﴾ قَالَ ذَلِك لأَنهم كَانُوا يجلبون الطَّعَام من الْمَوَاضِع الْبَعِيدَة وَكَانَ هُوَ الَّذِي يسهل لَهُم ذَلِك، ويرزقهم إِيَّاهَا بتيسير أَسبَابهَا لَهُم.
وَقَوله: ﴿وآمنهم من خوف﴾ أَي: من خوف الْغَارة وَالْقَتْل على مَا قُلْنَا، وَقيل: من خوف الجذام، وَالأَصَح هُوَ الأول.
وَفِي بعض التفاسير: أَن أول من جمع قُريْشًا على رحلتي الشتَاء والصيف هَاشم بن عبد منَاف، وَكَانُوا يَأْخُذُونَ فِي بضائعهم باسم الْفُقَرَاء شَيْئا مَعْلُوما فَإِذا رجعُوا أعطوهم ذَلِك تقربا إِلَى الله.
وَقَالَ الشَّاعِر فِي هَاشم:
(عَمْرو الْعلَا هشم الثَّرِيد لِقَوْمِهِ ... وَرِجَال مَكَّة مسنتون عجاف)
(الخالطين فقيرهم بغنيهم ... حَتَّى يصير فقيرهم كالكاف)

Quraysh

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
106:1
لِإِيلَٰفِ قُرَيۡشٍ ١
For the accustomed security of the Quraysh1 -

- i.e., the honor and reputation Allāh had given them as guardians of the Holy Kaʿbah, which allowed them to travel without fear of being harmed. ↩
106:2
إِۦلَٰفِهِمۡ رِحۡلَةَ ٱلشِّتَآءِ وَٱلصَّيۡفِ ٢
Their accustomed security [in] the caravan of winter and summer1 -

- i.e., the trading caravans that traveled south in winter and north in summer. ↩
106:3
فَلۡيَعۡبُدُواْ رَبَّ هَٰذَا ٱلۡبَيۡتِ ٣
Let them worship the Lord of this House,1

Al-Ma'un
The Small kindnesses · Meccan · 7 ayahs
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
107:1
أَرَءَيۡتَ ٱلَّذِي يُكَذِّبُ بِٱلدِّينِ ١
Have you seen the one who denies the Recompense?
107:2
فَذَٰلِكَ ٱلَّذِي يَدُعُّ ٱلۡيَتِيمَ ٢
For that is the one who drives away the orphan
107:3
وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ ٣
And does not encourage the feeding of the poor.
107:4
فَوَيۡلٞ لِّلۡمُصَلِّينَ ٤
So woe to those who pray
107:5
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ عَن صَلَاتِهِمۡ سَاهُونَ ٥
[But] who are heedless of their prayer1 -

- i.e., the hypocrites who are unconcerned if they miss prayers when no one sees them. ↩
107:6
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ يُرَآءُونَ ٦
Those who make show [of their deeds]
107:7
وَيَمۡنَعُونَ ٱلۡمَاعُونَ ٧
And withhold [simple] assistance.
سورة الكوثر
Al-Kawthar
The Abundance · Meccan · 3 ayahs
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
108:1
إِنَّآ أَعۡطَيۡنَٰكَ ٱلۡكَوۡثَرَ ١
Indeed, We have granted you, [O Muḥammad], al-Kawthar.
108:2
فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَٱنۡحَرۡ ٢
So pray to your Lord and offer sacrifice [to Him alone].
108:3
إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ ٱلۡأَبۡتَرُ ٣
Indeed, your enemy is the one cut off.1
