بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Quraysh 106:4

ٱلَّذِيٓ أَطۡعَمَهُم مِّن جُوعٖ وَءَامَنَهُم مِّنۡ خَوۡفِۭ ٤
Who has fed them, [saving them] from hunger and made them safe, [saving them] from fear.

Commentary on 106:1–4
وهي مكّيّة
قريشٌ، ولدُ النَّضْرِ بن كنانةَ، والتَّقَرُّشُ: التَّكسُّبُ، والمعنى أن اللَّهَ تَعالى جَعَلَ قريشاً يألَفُونَ رِحْلَتَيْنِ في العامِ، واحدةً في الشتاءِ وأخْرَى في الصيفِ، قال ابن عباس:
كانوا يَرْحلُونَ في الصيفِ إلى الطائفِ حيثُ الماءُ والظلُّ ويرحلونَ في الشِّتاءِ إلَى مكةَ [[أخرجه الطبري (12/ 703) ، (38014) ، وذكره البغوي (4/ 530) ، وابن عطية (5/ 525) ، والسيوطي في «الدر المنثور» (6/ 678) ، وعزاه لابن جرير، وابن المنذر، وابن أبي حاتم، وابن مردويه عن ابن عبّاس.]] ، قال الخليل: معنى الآيةِ لأنْ فَعَلَ اللَّهُ بقريشٍ هَذا ومكنَهم من إلْفِهِم هذه النعمةَ فَلْيَعْبُدُوا ربَّ هَذَا البيتِ.
وقولُهُ تعالى: مِنْ جُوعٍ معناه أنَّ أهْلَ مكةَ قَاطِنُون بوادٍ غَيْرِ ذي زرعٍ عُرْضَةٍ للجوعِ والجَدْبِ لولا فضلُ اللَّه عليهم.

Quraysh

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
106:1
لِإِيلَٰفِ قُرَيۡشٍ ١
For the accustomed security of the Quraysh1 -

- i.e., the honor and reputation Allāh had given them as guardians of the Holy Kaʿbah, which allowed them to travel without fear of being harmed. ↩
106:2
إِۦلَٰفِهِمۡ رِحۡلَةَ ٱلشِّتَآءِ وَٱلصَّيۡفِ ٢
Their accustomed security [in] the caravan of winter and summer1 -

106:3
فَلۡيَعۡبُدُواْ رَبَّ هَٰذَا ٱلۡبَيۡتِ ٣
Let them worship the Lord of this House,1

سورة الماعون
Al-Ma'un
The Small kindnesses · Meccan · 7 ayahs
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
107:1
أَرَءَيۡتَ ٱلَّذِي يُكَذِّبُ بِٱلدِّينِ ١
Have you seen the one who denies the Recompense?
107:2
فَذَٰلِكَ ٱلَّذِي يَدُعُّ ٱلۡيَتِيمَ ٢
For that is the one who drives away the orphan
107:3
وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ ٣
And does not encourage the feeding of the poor.
107:4
فَوَيۡلٞ لِّلۡمُصَلِّينَ ٤
So woe to those who pray
107:5
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ عَن صَلَاتِهِمۡ سَاهُونَ ٥
[But] who are heedless of their prayer1 -

- i.e., the hypocrites who are unconcerned if they miss prayers when no one sees them. ↩
107:6
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ يُرَآءُونَ ٦
Those who make show [of their deeds]
107:7
وَيَمۡنَعُونَ ٱلۡمَاعُونَ ٧
And withhold [simple] assistance.
سورة الكوثر
Al-Kawthar
The Abundance · Meccan · 3 ayahs
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
108:1
إِنَّآ أَعۡطَيۡنَٰكَ ٱلۡكَوۡثَرَ ١
Indeed, We have granted you, [O Muḥammad], al-Kawthar.
108:2
فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَٱنۡحَرۡ ٢
So pray to your Lord and offer sacrifice [to Him alone].
108:3
إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ ٱلۡأَبۡتَرُ ٣
Indeed, your enemy is the one cut off.1
