بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
Al-Kawthar 108:3

إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ ٱلۡأَبۡتَرُ ٣
Indeed, your enemy is the one cut off.1

Commentary on 108:3
وَقَوله: ﴿إِن شانئك هِيَ الأبتر﴾ أَكثر الْمُفَسّرين أَن المُرَاد بِهِ هُوَ الْعَاصِ بن وَائِل السَّهْمِي، كَانَ إِذا ذكر لَهُ رَسُول الله قَالَ: دعوا ذكره، فَإِنَّهُ أَبتر يَعْنِي: أَنه لَا ولد لَهُ، فَإِذا مَاتَ انْقَطع ذكره، وَاسْتَرَحْتُمْ مِنْهُ، وَكَانَت قُرَيْش تَقول لمن مَاتَ ابْنه، أَو لم يكن لَهُ ابْن: أَبتر.
فَقَالَ الله تَعَالَى: ﴿إِن شانئك هُوَ الأبتر﴾ يَعْنِي: مبغضك هُوَ الأبتر أَي: الَّذِي انْقَطع خَيره وَذكره فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَة والبتر هُوَ الْقطع.
وَقيل إِن الْآيَة فِي عقبَة بن أبي معيط وَقيل: إِن المُرَاد بِهِ كَعْب بن الْأَشْرَف، قدم مَكَّة، فَقَالَت لَهُ قُرَيْش: مَا تَقول أَيهَا الحبر فِي هَذَا (الصنبور) ؟ أهوَ خير أم نَحن؟ إِنَّه سبّ ألهتنا، وَفرق جَمعنَا، وَنحن أهل حرم الله وحجيج بَيته وسدنته، فَقَالَ: بل أَنْتُم خير مِنْهُ، فَأنْزل الله تَعَالَى: ﴿إِن شانئك هُوَ الأبتر﴾ فِيهِ.

Quraysh
Quraysh · Meccan · 4 ayahs
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
106:1
لِإِيلَٰفِ قُرَيۡشٍ ١
For the accustomed security of the Quraysh1 -

- i.e., the honor and reputation Allāh had given them as guardians of the Holy Kaʿbah, which allowed them to travel without fear of being harmed. ↩
106:2
إِۦلَٰفِهِمۡ رِحۡلَةَ ٱلشِّتَآءِ وَٱلصَّيۡفِ ٢
Their accustomed security [in] the caravan of winter and summer1 -

- i.e., the trading caravans that traveled south in winter and north in summer. ↩
106:3
فَلۡيَعۡبُدُواْ رَبَّ هَٰذَا ٱلۡبَيۡتِ ٣
Let them worship the Lord of this House,1

106:4
ٱلَّذِيٓ أَطۡعَمَهُم مِّن جُوعٖ وَءَامَنَهُم مِّنۡ خَوۡفِۭ ٤
Who has fed them, [saving them] from hunger and made them safe, [saving them] from fear.
سورة الماعون
Al-Ma'un
The Small kindnesses · Meccan · 7 ayahs
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
107:1
أَرَءَيۡتَ ٱلَّذِي يُكَذِّبُ بِٱلدِّينِ ١
Have you seen the one who denies the Recompense?
107:2
فَذَٰلِكَ ٱلَّذِي يَدُعُّ ٱلۡيَتِيمَ ٢
For that is the one who drives away the orphan
107:3
وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ ٣
And does not encourage the feeding of the poor.
107:4
فَوَيۡلٞ لِّلۡمُصَلِّينَ ٤
So woe to those who pray
107:5
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ عَن صَلَاتِهِمۡ سَاهُونَ ٥
[But] who are heedless of their prayer1 -

- i.e., the hypocrites who are unconcerned if they miss prayers when no one sees them. ↩
107:6
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ يُرَآءُونَ ٦
Those who make show [of their deeds]
107:7
وَيَمۡنَعُونَ ٱلۡمَاعُونَ ٧
And withhold [simple] assistance.
سورة الكوثر
Al-Kawthar

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
108:1
إِنَّآ أَعۡطَيۡنَٰكَ ٱلۡكَوۡثَرَ ١
Indeed, We have granted you, [O Muḥammad], al-Kawthar.
108:2
فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَٱنۡحَرۡ ٢
So pray to your Lord and offer sacrifice [to Him alone].
108:3
إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ ٱلۡأَبۡتَرُ ٣
Indeed, your enemy is the one cut off.1
