بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
Al-Kawthar 108:2

فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَٱنۡحَرۡ ٢
So pray to your Lord and offer sacrifice [to Him alone].

Commentary on 108:2
وَقَوله: ﴿فصل لِرَبِّك وانحر﴾ أَي: صل الصَّلَوَات الْخمس، وانحر الْبدن، وَقيل: صل بِجمع، وانحر بمنى، قَالَه مُجَاهِد وَعَطَاء، وَعَن عَليّ - رَضِي الله عَنهُ - أَن معنى قَوْله: ﴿وانحر﴾ هُوَ وضع الْيَمين على الشمَال فِي الصَّلَاة على النَّحْر.
وَقيل: وانحر واستقبل الْقبْلَة بنحرك.
قَالَ الشَّاعِر:
(أَبَا حكم هَل أَنْت عَم مجَالد ... وَسيد أهل الأبطح المتناحر)
أَي: المتقابل.
وروى مقَاتل بن حَيَّان، عَن الْأَصْبَغ بن نباتة، عَن عَليّ بن أبي طَالب - رَضِي الله عَنهُ - قَالَ: " لما نزلت على النَّبِي ﴿إِنَّا أعطيناك الْكَوْثَر فصل لِرَبِّك وانحر﴾ قَالَ النَّبِي لجبريل - عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام -: مَا هَذِه النحيرة الَّتِي أَمرنِي بهَا رَبِّي؟ قَالَ: إِنَّهَا لَيست بنحيرة، وَلكنه يَأْمُرك إِذا (تحرمت) بِالصَّلَاةِ، أَن ترفع يَديك إِذا كَبرت، وَإِذا ركعت، وَإِذا رفعت رَأسك من الرُّكُوع، فَإِنَّهَا من صَلَاتنَا وَصَلَاة الْمَلَائِكَة فِي السَّمَوَات السَّبع.
وَعَن مُحَمَّد بن كَعْب الْقرظِيّ: أَن قوما كَانُوا يصلونَ وينحرون لغير الله، فَقَالَ الله تَعَالَى: ﴿فصل لِرَبِّك وانحر﴾ أَي: اجْعَل صَلَاتك ونحرك لله.

Quraysh
Quraysh · Meccan · 4 ayahs
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
106:1
لِإِيلَٰفِ قُرَيۡشٍ ١
For the accustomed security of the Quraysh1 -

- i.e., the honor and reputation Allāh had given them as guardians of the Holy Kaʿbah, which allowed them to travel without fear of being harmed. ↩
106:2
إِۦلَٰفِهِمۡ رِحۡلَةَ ٱلشِّتَآءِ وَٱلصَّيۡفِ ٢
Their accustomed security [in] the caravan of winter and summer1 -

- i.e., the trading caravans that traveled south in winter and north in summer. ↩
106:3
فَلۡيَعۡبُدُواْ رَبَّ هَٰذَا ٱلۡبَيۡتِ ٣
Let them worship the Lord of this House,1

ٱلَّذِيٓ أَطۡعَمَهُم مِّن جُوعٖ وَءَامَنَهُم مِّنۡ خَوۡفِۭ ٤
Who has fed them, [saving them] from hunger and made them safe, [saving them] from fear.
سورة الماعون
Al-Ma'un
The Small kindnesses · Meccan · 7 ayahs
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
107:1
أَرَءَيۡتَ ٱلَّذِي يُكَذِّبُ بِٱلدِّينِ ١
Have you seen the one who denies the Recompense?
107:2
فَذَٰلِكَ ٱلَّذِي يَدُعُّ ٱلۡيَتِيمَ ٢
For that is the one who drives away the orphan
107:3
وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ ٣
And does not encourage the feeding of the poor.
107:4
فَوَيۡلٞ لِّلۡمُصَلِّينَ ٤
So woe to those who pray
107:5
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ عَن صَلَاتِهِمۡ سَاهُونَ ٥
[But] who are heedless of their prayer1 -

- i.e., the hypocrites who are unconcerned if they miss prayers when no one sees them. ↩
107:6
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ يُرَآءُونَ ٦
Those who make show [of their deeds]
107:7
وَيَمۡنَعُونَ ٱلۡمَاعُونَ ٧
And withhold [simple] assistance.
سورة الكوثر
Al-Kawthar

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
108:1
إِنَّآ أَعۡطَيۡنَٰكَ ٱلۡكَوۡثَرَ ١
Indeed, We have granted you, [O Muḥammad], al-Kawthar.
108:2
فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَٱنۡحَرۡ ٢
So pray to your Lord and offer sacrifice [to Him alone].
108:3
إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ ٱلۡأَبۡتَرُ ٣
Indeed, your enemy is the one cut off.1
