بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

قَالَ رَبِّي يَعۡلَمُ ٱلۡقَوۡلَ فِي ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ وَهُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلۡعَلِيمُ ٤
He [the Prophet (ﷺ)] said, "My Lord knows whatever is said throughout the heaven and earth, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing."

Commentary on 21:4–5
﴿قالَ﴾ ماض فاعله مستتر والجملة مستأنفة ﴿رَبِّي﴾ مبتدأ والياء مضاف إليه والجملة مقول القول ﴿يَعْلَمُ﴾ مضارع فاعله مستتر والجملة خبر المبتدأ ﴿الْقَوْلَ﴾ مفعول به ﴿فِي السَّماءِ﴾ متعلقان بمحذوف حال من القول ﴿وَالْأَرْضِ﴾ الواو عاطفة ومعطوفة على السماء ﴿وَهُوَ﴾ الواو عاطفة هو مبتدأ ﴿السَّمِيعُ﴾ خبر ﴿الْعَلِيمُ﴾ خبر ثان والجملة معطوفة ﴿بَلْ﴾ حرف إضراب ﴿قالُوا﴾ ماض وفاعله ﴿أَضْغاثُ﴾ خبر لمبتدأ محذوف والجملة مقول القول ﴿أَحْلامٍ﴾ مضاف إليه ﴿بَلْ﴾ حرف إضراب ﴿افْتَراهُ﴾ ماض ومفعوله والفاعل ضمير مستتر ﴿بَلْ﴾ حرف إضراب ﴿هُوَ﴾ ضمير في محل رفع مبتدأ ﴿شاعِرٌ﴾ خبر ﴿فَلْيَأْتِنا﴾ الفاء الفصيحة واللام للأمر ويأتنا مضارع مجزوم بحذف حرف العلة ونا مفعوله والفاعل مستتر ﴿بِآيَةٍ﴾ متعلقان بيأتنا والجملة لا محل لها لأنها جواب شرط غير جازم ﴿كَما﴾ ما موصولية ومتعلقان بمحذوف صفة لآية ﴿أُرْسِلَ الْأَوَّلُونَ﴾ ماض مبني للمجهول ونائب فاعله المرفوع بالواو لأنه جمع مذكر سالم والجملة صلة لا محل لها.

21:1
ٱقۡتَرَبَ لِلنَّاسِ حِسَابُهُمۡ وَهُمۡ فِي غَفۡلَةٖ مُّعۡرِضُونَ ١
[The time of] their account has approached for the people, while they are in heedlessness turning away.
21:2
مَا يَأۡتِيهِم مِّن ذِكۡرٖ مِّن رَّبِّهِم مُّحۡدَثٍ إِلَّا ٱسۡتَمَعُوهُ وَهُمۡ يَلۡعَبُونَ ٢
No mention [i.e., revelation] comes to them anew from their Lord except that they listen to it while they are at play
21:3
لَاهِيَةٗ قُلُوبُهُمۡۗ وَأَسَرُّواْ ٱلنَّجۡوَى ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ هَلۡ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا بَشَرٞ مِّثۡلُكُمۡۖ أَفَتَأۡتُونَ ٱلسِّحۡرَ وَأَنتُمۡ تُبۡصِرُونَ ٣
With their hearts distracted. And those who do wrong conceal their private conversation, [saying], "Is this [Prophet] except a human being like you? So would you approach magic while you are aware [of it]?"
21:4
قَالَ رَبِّي يَعۡلَمُ ٱلۡقَوۡلَ فِي ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ وَهُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلۡعَلِيمُ ٤
He [the Prophet (ﷺ)] said, "My Lord knows whatever is said throughout the heaven and earth, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing."
21:5
بَلۡ قَالُوٓاْ أَضۡغَٰثُ أَحۡلَٰمِۭ بَلِ ٱفۡتَرَىٰهُ بَلۡ هُوَ شَاعِرٞ فَلۡيَأۡتِنَا بِـَٔايَةٖ كَمَآ أُرۡسِلَ ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ ٥
But they say, "[The revelation is but] a mixture of false dreams; rather, he has invented it; rather, he is a poet. So let him bring us a sign just as the previous [messengers] were sent [with miracles]."
21:6
مَآ ءَامَنَتۡ قَبۡلَهُم مِّن قَرۡيَةٍ أَهۡلَكۡنَٰهَآۖ أَفَهُمۡ يُؤۡمِنُونَ ٦
Not a [single] city which We destroyed believed before them,1 so will they believe?

21:7
وَمَآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا قَبۡلَكَ إِلَّا رِجَالٗا نُّوحِيٓ إِلَيۡهِمۡۖ فَسۡـَٔلُوٓاْ أَهۡلَ ٱلذِّكۡرِ إِن كُنتُمۡ لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ ٧
And We sent not before you, [O Muḥammad], except men to whom We revealed [the message], so ask the people of the message [i.e., former scriptures] if you do not know.
21:8
وَمَا جَعَلۡنَٰهُمۡ جَسَدٗا لَّا يَأۡكُلُونَ ٱلطَّعَامَ وَمَا كَانُواْ خَٰلِدِينَ ٨
And We did not make them [i.e., the prophets] forms not eating food,1 nor were they immortal [on earth].

- Like the angels. Rather, they were human beings with human attributes. ↩
21:9
ثُمَّ صَدَقۡنَٰهُمُ ٱلۡوَعۡدَ فَأَنجَيۡنَٰهُمۡ وَمَن نَّشَآءُ وَأَهۡلَكۡنَا ٱلۡمُسۡرِفِينَ ٩
Then1 We fulfilled for them the promise, and We saved them and whom We willed and destroyed the transgressors.

21:10
لَقَدۡ أَنزَلۡنَآ إِلَيۡكُمۡ كِتَٰبٗا فِيهِ ذِكۡرُكُمۡۚ أَفَلَا تَعۡقِلُونَ ١٠
We have certainly sent down to you a Book [i.e., the Qur’ān] in which is your mention.1 Then will you not reason?
