Al-Ahzab 33:40

مَّا كَانَ مُحَمَّدٌ أَبَآ أَحَدٖ مِّن رِّجَالِكُمۡ وَلَٰكِن رَّسُولَ ٱللَّهِ وَخَاتَمَ ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَيۡءٍ عَلِيمٗا ٤٠
Muḥammad is not the father of [any] one of your men, but [he is] the Messenger of Allāh and seal [i.e., last] of the prophets. And ever is Allāh, of all things, Knowing.

Commentary on 33:40
( ما كان محمد أبا أحد من رجالكم ) يعني : زيد بن حارثة ، أي : ليس أبا أحد من رجالكم الذين لم يلدهم فيحرم عليه نكاح زوجته بعد فراقه إياها .
فإن قيل : أليس أنه كان له أبناء : القاسم ، والطيب ، والطاهر ، وإبراهيم ، وكذلك : الحسن والحسين ، فإن النبي - صلى الله عليه وسلم - قال للحسن : إن ابني هذا سيد ؟ .
قيل : هؤلاء كانوا صغارا لم يكونوا رجالا .
والصحيح ما قلنا : إنه أراد أبا أحد من رجالكم .
( ولكن رسول الله وخاتم النبيين ) ختم الله به النبوة ، وقرأ عاصم : " خاتم " بفتح التاء على الاسم ، أي : آخرهم ، وقرأ الآخرون بكسر التاء على الفاعل ، لأنه ختم به النبيين فهو خاتمهم .
قال ابن عباس : يريد لو لم أختم به النبيين لجعلت له ابنا يكون بعده نبيا .
وروي عن عطاء عن ابن عباس : أن الله تعالى لما حكم أن لا نبي بعده لم يعطه ولدا ذكرا يصير رجلا ( وكان الله بكل شيء عليما )
أخبرنا أبو الحسن علي بن يوسف الجويني ، أخبرنا أبو محمد محمد بن علي بن محمد الخذاشاهي ، أخبرنا عبد الله بن محمد بن مسلم ، حدثنا أبكر الجوربذي ، أخبرنا يونس بن عبد الأعلى ، أخبرنا ابن وهب ، أخبرني يونس عن يزيد ، عن ابن شهاب ، عن أبي سلمة قال : كان أبو هريرة يقول : قال رسول الله - صلى الله عليه وسلم - : " مثلي ومثل الأنبياء كمثل قصر أحسن بنيانه ، ترك منه موضع لبنة فطاف به النظار يتعجبون من حسن بنيانه إلا موضع تلك اللبنة لا يعيبون سواها فكنت أنا سددت موضع تلك اللبنة ، ختم بي البنيان وختم بي الرسل " .
أخبرنا عبد الله بن عبد الصمد الجوزجاني ، أخبرنا علي بن أحمد الخزاعي ، أخبرنا الهيثم بن كليب الشاشي ، أخبرنا أبو عيسى الترمذي ، أخبرنا سعيد بن عبد الرحمن المخزومي ، وغير واحد قالوا ، أخبرنا سفيان عن الزهري ، عن محمد بن جبير بن مطعم ، عن أبيه قال : قال رسول الله - صلى الله عليه وسلم - : " إن لي أسماء أنا محمد ، وأنا أحمد ، وأنا الماحي ، يمحو الله بي الكفر ، وأنا الحاشر الذي يحشر الناس على قدمي ، وأنا العاقب ، والعاقب الذي ليس بعده نبي " .

33:36
وَمَا كَانَ لِمُؤۡمِنٖ وَلَا مُؤۡمِنَةٍ إِذَا قَضَى ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥٓ أَمۡرًا أَن يَكُونَ لَهُمُ ٱلۡخِيَرَةُ مِنۡ أَمۡرِهِمۡۗ وَمَن يَعۡصِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ فَقَدۡ ضَلَّ ضَلَٰلٗا مُّبِينٗا ٣٦
It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allāh and His Messenger have decided a matter, that they should [thereafter] have any choice about their affair. And whoever disobeys Allāh and His Messenger has certainly strayed into clear error.
33:37
وَإِذۡ تَقُولُ لِلَّذِيٓ أَنۡعَمَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيۡهِ وَأَنۡعَمۡتَ عَلَيۡهِ أَمۡسِكۡ عَلَيۡكَ زَوۡجَكَ وَٱتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ وَتُخۡفِي فِي نَفۡسِكَ مَا ٱللَّهُ مُبۡدِيهِ وَتَخۡشَى ٱلنَّاسَ وَٱللَّهُ أَحَقُّ أَن تَخۡشَىٰهُۖ فَلَمَّا قَضَىٰ زَيۡدٞ مِّنۡهَا وَطَرٗا زَوَّجۡنَٰكَهَا لِكَيۡ لَا يَكُونَ عَلَى ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ حَرَجٞ فِيٓ أَزۡوَٰجِ أَدۡعِيَآئِهِمۡ إِذَا قَضَوۡاْ مِنۡهُنَّ وَطَرٗاۚ وَكَانَ أَمۡرُ ٱللَّهِ مَفۡعُولٗا ٣٧
And [remember, O Muḥammad], when you said to the one on whom Allāh bestowed favor and you bestowed favor,1 "Keep your wife and fear Allāh," while you concealed within yourself that which Allāh is to disclose.2 And you feared the people,3 while Allāh has more right that you fear Him.4 So when Zayd had no longer any need for her, We married her to you in order that there not be upon the believers any discomfort [i.e., guilt] concerning the wives of their claimed [i.e., adopted] sons when they no longer have need of them. And ever is the command [i.e., decree] of Allāh accomplished.

Referring to the Prophet's freed slave, Zayd bin Ḥārithah.
[1199] i.e., Allāh's command to the Prophet (ﷺ) to marry Zaynab after Zayd divorced her. This was to demonstrate that a man may marry a woman formerly married to his adopted son.
[1200] i.e., feared their saying that the Prophet (ﷺ) had married the (former) wife of his son (which is prohibited by Allāh in the case of a true, begotten son).

33:38
مَّا كَانَ عَلَى ٱلنَّبِيِّ مِنۡ حَرَجٖ فِيمَا فَرَضَ ٱللَّهُ لَهُۥۖ سُنَّةَ ٱللَّهِ فِي ٱلَّذِينَ خَلَوۡاْ مِن قَبۡلُۚ وَكَانَ أَمۡرُ ٱللَّهِ قَدَرٗا مَّقۡدُورًا ٣٨
There is not to be upon the Prophet any discomfort concerning that which Allāh has imposed upon him.1 [This is] the established way of Allāh with those [prophets] who have passed on before. And ever is the command of Allāh a destiny decreed.

33:39
ٱلَّذِينَ يُبَلِّغُونَ رِسَٰلَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ وَيَخۡشَوۡنَهُۥ وَلَا يَخۡشَوۡنَ أَحَدًا إِلَّا ٱللَّهَۗ وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ حَسِيبٗا ٣٩
[Allāh praises] those who convey the messages of Allāh1 and fear Him and do not fear anyone but Allāh. And sufficient is Allāh as Accountant.

33:40

33:41
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ ٱذۡكُرُواْ ٱللَّهَ ذِكۡرٗا كَثِيرٗا ٤١
O you who have believed, remember Allāh with much remembrance
33:42
وَسَبِّحُوهُ بُكۡرَةٗ وَأَصِيلًا ٤٢
And exalt Him morning and afternoon.
33:43
هُوَ ٱلَّذِي يُصَلِّي عَلَيۡكُمۡ وَمَلَٰٓئِكَتُهُۥ لِيُخۡرِجَكُم مِّنَ ٱلظُّلُمَٰتِ إِلَى ٱلنُّورِۚ وَكَانَ بِٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ رَحِيمٗا ٤٣
It is He who confers blessing upon you,1 and His angels [ask Him to do so] that He may bring you out from darknesses into the light. And ever is He, to the believers, Merciful.

- i.e., Allāh (subḥānahu wa taʿālā) cares for you and covers you with His mercy. An additional meaning is that He praises you in the presence of the angels. ↩
