بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
Al-Qamar 54:6

فَتَوَلَّ عَنۡهُمۡۘ يَوۡمَ يَدۡعُ ٱلدَّاعِ إِلَىٰ شَيۡءٖ نُّكُرٍ ٦
So leave them, [O Muḥammad]. The Day the Caller1 calls to something forbidding,

Commentary on 54:6
﴿فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ﴾ الفاءُ لِلسَّبَبِيَّةِ والمُسَبَّبُ التَّوَلِّي أوِ الأمْرُ بِهِ والسَّبَبُ عَدَمُ الإغْناءِ أوِ العِلْمِ بِهِ، والمُرادُ بِالتَّوَلِّي إمّا عَدَمُ القِتالِ، فالآيَةُ مَنسُوخَةٌ، وإمّا تَرْكُ الجِدالِ لِلْجِدالِ فَهي مَحْكَمَةٌ والظّاهِرُ الأوَّلُ ﴿يَوْمَ يَدْعُ الدّاعِ﴾ ظَرْفٌ - لِيَخْرُجُونَ - أوْ مَفْعُولٌ بِهِ لاذْكُرْ مُقَدَّرًا، وقِيلَ: لِانْتَظِرْ، وجُوِّزَ أنْ يَكُونَ ظَرْفًا لِتُغْنِي، أوْ لِمُسْتَقِرٍّ وما بَيْنَهُما اعْتِراضٌ، أوْ ظَرْفًا - لِيَقُولَ الكافِرُ - أوْ - لِتَوَلَّ - أيْ تَوَلَّ عَنِ الشَّفاعَةِ لَهم يَوْمَ القِيامَةِ، أوْ هو مَعْمُولٌ لَهُ بِتَقْدِيرِ إلى، وعَلَيْهِ قَوْلُ الحَسَنِ - فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهم إلى يَوْمِ. .
والمُرادُ اسْتِمْرارُ التَّوَلِّي والكُلُّ كَما تَرى، والدّاعِي إسْرافِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلامُ، وقِيلَ: جِبْرائِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلامُ، وقِيلَ: مَلَكٌ غَيْرُهُما مُوَكَّلٌ بِذَلِكَ، وجُوِّزَ أنْ يَكُونَ الدُّعاءُ لِلْإعادَةِ في ذَلِكَ اليَوْمِ كالأمْرِ في ﴿كُنْ فَيَكُونُ﴾ [البَقَرَةَ: 117] وغَيْرُها عَلى القَوْلِ بِأنَّهُ تَمْثِيلٌ، فالدّاعِي حِينَئِذٍ هو اللَّهُ عَزَّ وجَلَّ، وحُذِفَتِ الواوُ مِن ( يَدْعُ ) لَفْظًا لِالتِقاءِ السّاكِنَيْنِ ورَسْمًا اتِّباعًا لِلَّفْظِ، والياءُ مِن ( الدّاعِ ) تَخْفِيفًا، وإجْراءً لِألْ مَجْرى التَّنْوِينِ لِأنَّها تُعاقِبُهُ، والشَّيْءُ يُحْمَلُ عَلى ضِدِّهِ كَما يُحْمَلُ عَلى نَظِيرِهِ ﴿إلى شَيْءٍ نُكُرٍ﴾ أيْ فَظِيعٍ تُنْكِرُهُ النُّفُوسُ لِعَدَمِ العَهْدِ بِمِثْلِهِ وهو هَوْلُ القِيامَةِ ويُكَنّى بِالنُّكُرِ عَنِ الفَظِيعِ لِأنَّهُ في الغالِبِ مُنْكَرٌ غَيْرُ مَعْهُودٍ، وجُوِّزَ أنْ يَكُونَ مِنَ الإنْكارِ ضِدَّ الإقْرارِ وأيُّما كانَ فَهو وصْفٌ عَلى فِعْلٍ بِضَمَّتَيْنِ وهو قَلِيلٌ في الصِّفاتِ، ومِنهُ - رَوْضَةٌ أُنُفٌ لَمْ تُرْعَ، ورَجُلٌ شُلُلٌ خَفِيفٌ في الحاجَةِ سَرِيعٌ حَسَنُ الصُّحْبَةِ

طَيِّبُ النَّفْسِ، وسَجْحٌ لَيِّنٌ سَهْلٌ وقَرَأ الحَسَنُ وابْنُ كَثِيرٍ وشِبْلٌ «نُكْرٌ» بِإسْكانِ الكافِ كَما قالُوا: شُغُلٌ وشُغْلٌ، وعُسُرٌ وعُسْرٌ وهو إسْكانُ تَخْفِيفٍ، أوِ السُّكُونُ هو الأصْلُ والضَّمُّ لِلْإتْباعِ، وقَرَأ مُجاهِدٌ وأبُو قِلابَةَ والجَحْدَرِيُّ وزَيْدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ «نُكِرَ» فِعْلًا ماضِيًا مَبْنِيًّا لِلْمَفْعُولِ بِمَعْنى أنْكَرَ.

53:45
وَأَنَّهُۥ خَلَقَ ٱلزَّوۡجَيۡنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلۡأُنثَىٰ ٤٥
And that He creates the two mates - the male and female -
53:46
مِن نُّطۡفَةٍ إِذَا تُمۡنَىٰ ٤٦
From a sperm-drop when it is emitted
53:47
وَأَنَّ عَلَيۡهِ ٱلنَّشۡأَةَ ٱلۡأُخۡرَىٰ ٤٧
And that [incumbent] upon Him is the other [i.e., next] creation.
53:48
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَغۡنَىٰ وَأَقۡنَىٰ ٤٨
And that it is He who enriches and suffices
53:49
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلشِّعۡرَىٰ ٤٩
And that it is He who is the Lord of Sirius1

53:50
وَأَنَّهُۥٓ أَهۡلَكَ عَادًا ٱلۡأُولَىٰ ٥٠
And that He destroyed the first [people of] ʿAad
53:51
وَثَمُودَاْ فَمَآ أَبۡقَىٰ ٥١
And Thamūd - and He did not spare [them] -
53:52
وَقَوۡمَ نُوحٖ مِّن قَبۡلُۖ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ هُمۡ أَظۡلَمَ وَأَطۡغَىٰ ٥٢
And the people of Noah before. Indeed, it was they who were [even] more unjust and oppressing.
53:53
وَٱلۡمُؤۡتَفِكَةَ أَهۡوَىٰ ٥٣
And the overturned towns1 He hurled down

53:54
فَغَشَّىٰهَا مَا غَشَّىٰ ٥٤
And covered them by that which He covered.1

53:55
فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَىٰ ٥٥
Then which of the favors of your Lord do you doubt?
53:56
هَٰذَا نَذِيرٞ مِّنَ ٱلنُّذُرِ ٱلۡأُولَىٰٓ ٥٦
This [Prophet (ﷺ)] is a warner from [i.e., like] the former warners.
53:57
أَزِفَتِ ٱلۡأٓزِفَةُ ٥٧
The Approaching Day has approached.
53:58
لَيۡسَ لَهَا مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ ٥٨
Of it, [from those] besides Allāh, there is no remover.
53:59
أَفَمِنۡ هَٰذَا ٱلۡحَدِيثِ تَعۡجَبُونَ ٥٩
Then at this statement do you wonder?
53:60
وَتَضۡحَكُونَ وَلَا تَبۡكُونَ ٦٠
And you laugh and do not weep
53:61
وَأَنتُمۡ سَٰمِدُونَ ٦١
While you are proudly sporting?1

53:62
فَٱسۡجُدُواْۤ لِلَّهِۤ وَٱعۡبُدُواْ۩ ٦٢
So prostrate to Allāh and worship [Him].
سورة القمر
Al-Qamar
The Moon · Meccan · 55 ayahs
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
54:1
ٱقۡتَرَبَتِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ وَٱنشَقَّ ٱلۡقَمَرُ ١
The Hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two].1

- This was a sign given by Allāh to Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ) when the Quraysh challenged him to show them a miracle. ↩
54:2
وَإِن يَرَوۡاْ ءَايَةٗ يُعۡرِضُواْ وَيَقُولُواْ سِحۡرٞ مُّسۡتَمِرّٞ ٢
And if they see a sign [i.e., miracle], they turn away and say, "Passing magic."1

54:3
وَكَذَّبُواْ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓاْ أَهۡوَآءَهُمۡۚ وَكُلُّ أَمۡرٖ مُّسۡتَقِرّٞ ٣
And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement.
54:4
وَلَقَدۡ جَآءَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَنۢبَآءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزۡدَجَرٌ ٤
And there has already come to them of information that in which there is deterrence.
54:5
حِكۡمَةُۢ بَٰلِغَةٞۖ فَمَا تُغۡنِ ٱلنُّذُرُ ٥
Extensive wisdom - but warning does not avail [them].
54:6
فَتَوَلَّ عَنۡهُمۡۘ يَوۡمَ يَدۡعُ ٱلدَّاعِ إِلَىٰ شَيۡءٖ نُّكُرٍ ٦
So leave them, [O Muḥammad]. The Day the Caller1 calls to something forbidding,
