بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
Al-Jumu'ah 62:5

مَثَلُ ٱلَّذِينَ حُمِّلُواْ ٱلتَّوۡرَىٰةَ ثُمَّ لَمۡ يَحۡمِلُوهَا كَمَثَلِ ٱلۡحِمَارِ يَحۡمِلُ أَسۡفَارَۢاۚ بِئۡسَ مَثَلُ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِۚ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهۡدِي ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ ٥
The example of those who were entrusted with the Torah and then did not take it on1 is like that of a donkey who carries volumes [of books].2 Wretched is the example of the people who deny the signs of Allāh. And Allāh does not guide the wrongdoing people.

Commentary on 62:5
﴿مثل الذين حملوا التوراة ثم لم يحملوها﴾: كلام مستأنف لا محل له من الإعراب، ومثل مبتدأ، والذين اسم موصول في محل جر مضاف إليه، وجملة ﴿حُمِّلُوا﴾ صلة ﴿الذين﴾ لا محل لها من الإعراب، وحملوا فعل ماضٍ مبني لما لم يسمَّ فاعله، والواو نائب فاعل، والتوراة مفعول به ثانٍ، ثم حرف عطف للترتيب مع التراخي، ولم حرف نفي وقلب وجزم، ويحملوها فعل مضارع مجزوم بـ﴿لم﴾، وعلامة جزمه حذف النون، والواو فاعل، و﴿ها﴾ مفعول به.
﴿كمثل الحمار﴾: جار ومجرور متعلقان بمحذوف خبر مثل.
﴿يحمل أسفارًا﴾: الجملة في محل نصب على الحال من الحمار، وقيل: في محل جر نعت للحمار، وأسفارًا مفعول به.
﴿بئس مثل القوم الذين كذبوا بآيات الله﴾: بئس فعل ماضٍ جامد لإنشاء الذم، ومثل القوم فاعل بئس، والذين صفة، وجملة كذبوا صلة الموصول لا محل لها من الإعراب، وبآيات الله جار ومجرور متعلقان بـ﴿كذبوا﴾، والمخصوص بالذم محذوف، أي: هذا المثل.
﴿والله لا يهدي القوم الظالمين﴾: الله مبتدأ، وجملة لا يهدي خبر، والقوم مفعول به، والظالمين نعت لـ﴿القوم﴾.

Al-Jumu'ah

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
62:1
يُسَبِّحُ لِلَّهِ مَا فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ ٱلۡمَلِكِ ٱلۡقُدُّوسِ ٱلۡعَزِيزِ ٱلۡحَكِيمِ ١
Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth is exalting Allāh,1 the Sovereign, the Pure, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.2
62:2
هُوَ ٱلَّذِي بَعَثَ فِي ٱلۡأُمِّيِّـۧنَ رَسُولٗا مِّنۡهُمۡ يَتۡلُواْ عَلَيۡهِمۡ ءَايَٰتِهِۦ وَيُزَكِّيهِمۡ وَيُعَلِّمُهُمُ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ وَٱلۡحِكۡمَةَ وَإِن كَانُواْ مِن قَبۡلُ لَفِي ضَلَٰلٖ مُّبِينٖ ٢
It is He who has sent among the unlettered [Arabs] a Messenger from themselves reciting to them His verses and purifying them and teaching them the Book [i.e., the Qur’ān] and wisdom [i.e., the sunnah] - although they were before in clear error -
62:3
وَءَاخَرِينَ مِنۡهُمۡ لَمَّا يَلۡحَقُواْ بِهِمۡۚ وَهُوَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلۡحَكِيمُ ٣
And [to] others of them who have not yet joined them. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
62:4
ذَٰلِكَ فَضۡلُ ٱللَّهِ يُؤۡتِيهِ مَن يَشَآءُۚ وَٱللَّهُ ذُو ٱلۡفَضۡلِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ ٤
That is the bounty of Allāh, which He gives to whom He wills, and Allāh is the possessor of great bounty.
62:5

62:6
قُلۡ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ هَادُوٓاْ إِن زَعَمۡتُمۡ أَنَّكُمۡ أَوۡلِيَآءُ لِلَّهِ مِن دُونِ ٱلنَّاسِ فَتَمَنَّوُاْ ٱلۡمَوۡتَ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَٰدِقِينَ ٦
Say, "O you who are Jews, if you claim that you are allies of Allāh, excluding the [other] people, then wish for death, if you should be truthful."
62:7
وَلَا يَتَمَنَّوۡنَهُۥٓ أَبَدَۢا بِمَا قَدَّمَتۡ أَيۡدِيهِمۡۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمُۢ بِٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ ٧
But they will not wish for it, ever, because of what their hands have put forth. And Allāh is Knowing of the wrongdoers.
62:8
قُلۡ إِنَّ ٱلۡمَوۡتَ ٱلَّذِي تَفِرُّونَ مِنۡهُ فَإِنَّهُۥ مُلَٰقِيكُمۡۖ ثُمَّ تُرَدُّونَ إِلَىٰ عَٰلِمِ ٱلۡغَيۡبِ وَٱلشَّهَٰدَةِ فَيُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ٨
Say, "Indeed, the death from which you flee - indeed, it will meet you. Then you will be returned to the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, and He will inform you about what you used to do."
