Then do they not give thought? There is in their companion [i.e., Muḥammad (ﷺ)] no madness. He is not but a clear warner.

Commentary on 7:184
(Do they not reflect) `those who deny Our Ayat,'
(there is not in their companion), Muhammad ,
(madness) Muhammad is not mad, rather, he is truly the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, calling to Truth,
(but he is a plain warner), and this is clear for those who have a mind and a heart by which they understand and comprehend. Allah said in another Ayah,
(And (O people) your companion is not a madman.)81:22 Allah also said,
(Say: "I exhort you to one (thing) only, that you stand up for Allah's sake in pairs and singly, and reflect, there is no madness in your companion. He is only a warner to you in face of a severe torment.") 34:46 meaning, `I ask you to stand for Allah in sincerity without stubbornness or bias,'
(in pairs and singly) 34:46 individuals and in groups,
(and reflect) 34:46, about this man who brought the Message from Allah, is he mad If you do this, it will become clear to you that he is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in truth and justice. Qatadah bin Di'amah said, "We were informed that the Prophet of Allah once was on (Mount) As-Safa and called the Quraysh, subtribe by subtribe, proclaiming,
(O Children of so-and-so, O Children of so-and-so! He warned them against Allah's might and what He has done (such as revenge from His enemies).) Some of them commented, `This companion of yours (Prophet Muhammad) is mad; he kept shouting until the morning' Allah sent down this Ayah,
(Do they not reflect There is no madness in their companion. He is but a plain warner) 7:184."'

7:179
And We have certainly created for Hell many of the jinn and mankind. They have hearts with which they do not understand, they have eyes with which they do not see, and they have ears with which they do not hear. Those are like livestock; rather, they are more astray.1 It is they who are the heedless.
1 translator’s note
- The reference is to their inability (i.e., refusal) to think and reason, while blindly following (as they are accustomed). ↩
7:180
And to Allāh belong the best names, so invoke Him by them. And leave [the company of] those who practice deviation concerning His names.1 They will be recompensed for what they have been doing.
1 translator’s note
- i.e., use them improperly or deny them. ↩
7:181
And among those We created is a community1 which guides by truth and thereby establishes justice.
1 translator’s note
- The followers of Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ). ↩
7:182
But those who deny Our signs - We will progressively lead them [to destruction]1 from where they do not know.
1 translator’s note
- Allāh will test them with one favor after another in spite of their disobedience, which only increases them in arrogance and sin. ↩
7:183
And I will give them time. Indeed, My plan is firm.
7:184
Then do they not give thought? There is in their companion [i.e., Muḥammad (ﷺ)] no madness. He is not but a clear warner.
7:185
Do they not look into the realm of the heavens and the earth and everything that Allāh has created and [think] that perhaps their appointed time has come near? So in what statement [i.e., message] hereafter will they believe?
7:186
Whoever Allāh sends astray - there is no guide for him. And He leaves them in their transgression, wandering blindly.
7:187
They ask you, [O Muḥammad], about the Hour: when is its arrival?1 Say, "Its knowledge is only with my Lord. None will reveal its time except Him. It lays heavily2 upon the heavens and the earth. It will not come upon you except unexpectedly." They ask you as if you are familiar with it. Say, "Its knowledge is only with Allāh, but most of the people do not know."
