إِنَّهَا تَرۡمِي بِشَرَرٖ كَٱلۡقَصۡرِ ٣٢
Indeed, it throws sparks [as huge] as a fortress,

Commentary on 77:32
(إنها ترمي بشرر كالقصر) العظيم أي كل شررة من شررها التي ترمي بها كالقصر من القصور في عظمها، والشرر ما تطاير من النار متفرقاً، والقصر البناء العظيم، وقيل القصر جمع قصرة ساكنة الصاد مثل جمر وجمرة وتمر وتمرة وهي الواحدة من جزل الحطب الغليظ، قال سعيد بن جبير والضحاك وهي أصول الشجر العظام، وقيل أعناقه.
قرأ الجمهور كالقصر بإسكان الصاد وهو واحد القصور كما تقدم، وقرىء بفتحها أي أعناق النخل والقصرة العنق جمعه قصر وقصرات، وقال قتادة: أعناق الإبل.
وقرأ سعيد بن جبير: بكسر القاف وفتح الصاد وهي جمع أيضاًً لقصرة مثل بدر وبدرة وقصع قصعة.
وقرأ الجمهور بشرر بفتح الشين، وقرأ ابن عباس وابن مقسم شرار بكسرها مع ألف بين الراءين، وقرأ عيسى كذلك إلا أنه بفتح الشين وهي لغات، قال ابن عباس قصر النخل يعني الأعناق، وعنه قال كانت العرب في الجاهلية تقول اقصروا لنا الحطب فيقطع على قدر الذراع والذراعين، وقال ابن مسعود: إنها ليست كالشجر والجبال، ولكنها مثل المدائن والحصون.
ثم شبه الشرر باعتبار لونه فقال

77:20
أَلَمۡ نَخۡلُقكُّم مِّن مَّآءٖ مَّهِينٖ ٢٠
Did We not create you from a liquid disdained?
77:21
فَجَعَلۡنَٰهُ فِي قَرَارٖ مَّكِينٍ ٢١
And We placed it in a firm lodging [i.e., the womb]
77:22
إِلَىٰ قَدَرٖ مَّعۡلُومٖ ٢٢
For a known extent.
77:23
فَقَدَرۡنَا فَنِعۡمَ ٱلۡقَٰدِرُونَ ٢٣
And We determined [it], and excellent [are We] to determine.
77:24
وَيۡلٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ ٢٤
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
77:25
أَلَمۡ نَجۡعَلِ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ كِفَاتًا ٢٥
Have We not made the earth a container
77:26
أَحۡيَآءٗ وَأَمۡوَٰتٗا ٢٦
Of the living and the dead?
77:27
وَجَعَلۡنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِيَ شَٰمِخَٰتٖ وَأَسۡقَيۡنَٰكُم مَّآءٗ فُرَاتٗا ٢٧
And We placed therein lofty, firmly set mountains and have given you to drink sweet water.
77:28
وَيۡلٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ ٢٨
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
77:29
ٱنطَلِقُوٓاْ إِلَىٰ مَا كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ ٢٩
[They will be told], "Proceed to that which you used to deny.
77:30
ٱنطَلِقُوٓاْ إِلَىٰ ظِلّٖ ذِي ثَلَٰثِ شُعَبٖ ٣٠
Proceed to a shadow [of smoke] having three columns
77:31
لَّا ظَلِيلٖ وَلَا يُغۡنِي مِنَ ٱللَّهَبِ ٣١
[But having] no cool shade and availing not against the flame."
77:32
إِنَّهَا تَرۡمِي بِشَرَرٖ كَٱلۡقَصۡرِ ٣٢
Indeed, it throws sparks [as huge] as a fortress,
77:33
كَأَنَّهُۥ جِمَٰلَتٞ صُفۡرٞ ٣٣
As if they were yellowish [black] camels.
77:34
وَيۡلٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ ٣٤
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
77:35
هَٰذَا يَوۡمُ لَا يَنطِقُونَ ٣٥
This is a Day they will not speak,
77:36
وَلَا يُؤۡذَنُ لَهُمۡ فَيَعۡتَذِرُونَ ٣٦
Nor will it be permitted for them to make an excuse.
77:37
وَيۡلٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ ٣٧
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
77:38
هَٰذَا يَوۡمُ ٱلۡفَصۡلِۖ جَمَعۡنَٰكُمۡ وَٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ ٣٨
This is the Day of Judgement; We will have assembled you and the former peoples.
77:39
فَإِن كَانَ لَكُمۡ كَيۡدٞ فَكِيدُونِ ٣٩
So if you have a plan, then plan against Me.
77:40
وَيۡلٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ ٤٠
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
77:41
إِنَّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ فِي ظِلَٰلٖ وَعُيُونٖ ٤١
Indeed, the righteous will be among shades and springs
77:42
وَفَوَٰكِهَ مِمَّا يَشۡتَهُونَ ٤٢
And fruits from whatever they desire,
77:43
كُلُواْ وَٱشۡرَبُواْ هَنِيٓـَٔۢا بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ٤٣
[Being told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do."
77:44
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجۡزِي ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ ٤٤
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.
77:45
وَيۡلٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ ٤٥
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
77:46
كُلُواْ وَتَمَتَّعُواْ قَلِيلًا إِنَّكُم مُّجۡرِمُونَ ٤٦
[O disbelievers], eat and enjoy yourselves a little; indeed, you are criminals.
77:47
وَيۡلٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ ٤٧
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
77:48
وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ٱرۡكَعُواْ لَا يَرۡكَعُونَ ٤٨
And when it is said to them, "Bow [in prayer]," they do not bow.
77:49
وَيۡلٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ ٤٩
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
77:50
فَبِأَيِّ حَدِيثِۭ بَعۡدَهُۥ يُؤۡمِنُونَ ٥٠
Then in what statement after it [i.e., the Qur’ān] will they believe?
