وَلَقَدۡ ذَرَأۡنَا لِجَهَنَّمَ كَثِيرٗا مِّنَ ٱلۡجِنِّ وَٱلۡإِنسِۖ لَهُمۡ قُلُوبٞ لَّا يَفۡقَهُونَ بِهَا وَلَهُمۡ أَعۡيُنٞ لَّا يُبۡصِرُونَ بِهَا وَلَهُمۡ ءَاذَانٞ لَّا يَسۡمَعُونَ بِهَآۚ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ كَٱلۡأَنۡعَٰمِ بَلۡ هُمۡ أَضَلُّۚ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡغَٰفِلُونَ ١٧٩
And We have certainly created for Hell many of the jinn and mankind. They have hearts with which they do not understand, they have eyes with which they do not see, and they have ears with which they do not hear. Those are like livestock; rather, they are more astray.1 It is they who are the heedless.

Commentary on 7:179
كَثِيراً مِنَ الْجِنِّ وَالْإِنْسِ هم المطبوع على قلوبهم الذين علم الله أنه لا لطف لهم. وجعلهم في أنهم لا يلقون أذهانهم إلى معرفة الحق، ولا ينظرون بأعينهم إلى ما خلق الله نظر اعتبار، ولا يسماعون ما يتلى عليهم من آيات الله سماع تدبر، كأنهم عدموا فهم القلوب وإبصار العيون واستماع الآذان، وجعلهم- لإعراقهم [[قوله «لاعراقهم» يقال أعرق الشجر والنبات- بالعين المهملة- إذا امتدت عروقه في الأرض. وأغرق النازع في القوس- بالمعجمة- أى استوفى مدها اه من الصحاح. (ع)]] في الكفر وشدّة شكائمهم فيه، وأنه لا يأتى منهم إلا أفعال أهل النار- مخلوقين للنار، دلالة على توغلهم في الموجبات وتمكنهم فيما يؤهلهم لدخول النار ومنه كتاب عمر رضى الله عنه إلى خالد بن الوليد: بلغني أن أهل الشام اتخذوا لك دلوكا [[قوله «دلوكا» في الصحاح: الدلوك ما يدلك به من طيب وغيره. (ع)]] عجن بخمر وإنى لأظنكم آل المغيرة ذره النار [[أخرجه أبو عبيد في غريبه: حدثني إسماعيل بن عياش عن حميد بن ربيعة عن سليمان بن موسى: أن عمر كتب إلى خالد- فذكره منقطعا.]] . ويقال لمن كان عريقا في بعض الأمور: ما خلق فلان إلا لكذا. والمراد وصف حال اليهود [[قوله «والمراد وصف حال اليهود» إنما فسره بذلك لأنه تعالى يجب عليه الأصلح العبد عند المعتزلة، وخلقه لجهنم ليس أصلح له. وعند أهل السنة لا يجب عليه شيء. (ع)]] في عظم ما أقدموا عليه من تكذيب رسول الله ﷺ، مع علمهم أنه النبي الموعود. وأنهم من جملة الكثير الذين لا يكاد الإيمان يتأتى منهم، كأنهم خلقوا للنار أُولئِكَ كَالْأَنْعامِ في عدم الفقه والنظر للاعتبار والاستماع للتدبر بَلْ هُمْ أَضَلُّ من الأنعام عن الفقه والاعتبار والتدبر أُولئِكَ هُمُ الْغافِلُونَ الكاملون في الغفلة. وقيل: الأنعام تبصر منافعها ومضارّها فتلزم بعض ما تبصره، وهؤلاء أكثرهم يعلم أنه معاند فيقدم على النار.

7:179

7:180
وَلِلَّهِ ٱلۡأَسۡمَآءُ ٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰ فَٱدۡعُوهُ بِهَاۖ وَذَرُواْ ٱلَّذِينَ يُلۡحِدُونَ فِيٓ أَسۡمَٰٓئِهِۦۚ سَيُجۡزَوۡنَ مَا كَانُواْ يَعۡمَلُونَ ١٨٠
And to Allāh belong the best names, so invoke Him by them. And leave [the company of] those who practice deviation concerning His names.1 They will be recompensed for what they have been doing.

7:181
وَمِمَّنۡ خَلَقۡنَآ أُمَّةٞ يَهۡدُونَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَبِهِۦ يَعۡدِلُونَ ١٨١
And among those We created is a community1 which guides by truth and thereby establishes justice.

7:182
وَٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا سَنَسۡتَدۡرِجُهُم مِّنۡ حَيۡثُ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ ١٨٢
But those who deny Our signs - We will progressively lead them [to destruction]1 from where they do not know.

7:183
وَأُمۡلِي لَهُمۡۚ إِنَّ كَيۡدِي مَتِينٌ ١٨٣
And I will give them time. Indeed, My plan is firm.
7:184
أَوَلَمۡ يَتَفَكَّرُواْۗ مَا بِصَاحِبِهِم مِّن جِنَّةٍۚ إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا نَذِيرٞ مُّبِينٌ ١٨٤
Then do they not give thought? There is in their companion [i.e., Muḥammad (ﷺ)] no madness. He is not but a clear warner.
7:185
أَوَلَمۡ يَنظُرُواْ فِي مَلَكُوتِ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ مِن شَيۡءٖ وَأَنۡ عَسَىٰٓ أَن يَكُونَ قَدِ ٱقۡتَرَبَ أَجَلُهُمۡۖ فَبِأَيِّ حَدِيثِۭ بَعۡدَهُۥ يُؤۡمِنُونَ ١٨٥
Do they not look into the realm of the heavens and the earth and everything that Allāh has created and [think] that perhaps their appointed time has come near? So in what statement [i.e., message] hereafter will they believe?
7:186
مَن يُضۡلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَلَا هَادِيَ لَهُۥۚ وَيَذَرُهُمۡ فِي طُغۡيَٰنِهِمۡ يَعۡمَهُونَ ١٨٦
Whoever Allāh sends astray - there is no guide for him. And He leaves them in their transgression, wandering blindly.
7:187
يَسۡـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلسَّاعَةِ أَيَّانَ مُرۡسَىٰهَاۖ قُلۡ إِنَّمَا عِلۡمُهَا عِندَ رَبِّيۖ لَا يُجَلِّيهَا لِوَقۡتِهَآ إِلَّا هُوَۚ ثَقُلَتۡ فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ لَا تَأۡتِيكُمۡ إِلَّا بَغۡتَةٗۗ يَسۡـَٔلُونَكَ كَأَنَّكَ حَفِيٌّ عَنۡهَاۖ قُلۡ إِنَّمَا عِلۡمُهَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ ١٨٧
They ask you, [O Muḥammad], about the Hour: when is its arrival?1 Say, "Its knowledge is only with my Lord. None will reveal its time except Him. It lays heavily2 upon the heavens and the earth. It will not come upon you except unexpectedly." They ask you as if you are familiar with it. Say, "Its knowledge is only with Allāh, but most of the people do not know."
