Ash-Shu'ara 26:93–206
26:93Page 371
مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ هَلۡ يَنصُرُونَكُمۡ أَوۡ يَنتَصِرُونَ ٩٣
Other than Allāh? Can they help you or help themselves?"
﴿مِن دُون اللَّه﴾ أيْ غَيْره مِن الأَصْنام ﴿هَلْ يَنْصُرُونَكُمْ﴾ بِدَفْعِ العَذاب عَنْكُمْ ﴿أوْ يَنْتَصِرُونَ﴾ بِدَفْعِهِ عَنْ أنْفُسهمْ، لا
26:94Page 371
فَكُبۡكِبُواْ فِيهَا هُمۡ وَٱلۡغَاوُۥنَ ٩٤
So they will be overturned into it [i.e., Hellfire], they and the deviators
﴿فَكُبْكِبُوا﴾ أُلْقُوا
﴿وجُنُود إبْلِيس﴾ أتْباعه، ومَن أطاعَهُ مِن الجِنّ والإنْس
﴿قالُوا﴾ أيْ الغاوُونَ ﴿وهُمْ فِيها يَخْتَصِمُونَ﴾ مَعَ مَعْبُودِيهِمْ
26:97Page 371
تَٱللَّهِ إِن كُنَّا لَفِي ضَلَٰلٖ مُّبِينٍ ٩٧
"By Allāh, we were indeed in manifest error
﴿تاللَّهِ إنْ﴾ مُخَفَّفَة مِن الثَّقِيلَة واسْمها مَحْذُوف أيْ إنّهُ ﴿كُنّا لَفِي ضَلال مُبِين﴾ بَيِّن
26:98Page 371
إِذۡ نُسَوِّيكُم بِرَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ٩٨
When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds.
﴿إذْ﴾ حَيْثُ ﴿نُسَوِّيكُمْ بِرَبِّ العالَمِينَ﴾ فِي العِبادَة
26:99Page 371
وَمَآ أَضَلَّنَآ إِلَّا ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ ٩٩
And no one misguided us except the criminals.
﴿وما أضَلَّنا﴾ عَنْ الهُدى ﴿إلّا المُجْرِمُونَ﴾ أيْ الشَّياطِين أوْ أوَّلُونا الَّذِينَ اقْتَدَيْنا بِهِمْ
﴿فَما لَنا مِن شافِعِينَ﴾ كَما لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ مِن المَلائِكَة والنَّبِيِّينَ والمُؤْمِنِينَ
﴿ولا صَدِيق حَمِيم﴾ يُهِمّهُ أمْرنا
26:102Page 371
فَلَوۡ أَنَّ لَنَا كَرَّةٗ فَنَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ ١٠٢
Then if we only had a return [to the world] and could be of the believers..."1
﴿فَلَوْ أنَّ لَنا كَرَّة﴾ رَجْعَة إلى الدُّنْيا ﴿فَنَكُون مِن المُؤْمِنِينَ﴾ لَوْ هُنا لِلتَّمَنِّي ونَكُون جَوابه
26:103Page 371
إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَةٗۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكۡثَرُهُم مُّؤۡمِنِينَ ١٠٣
Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.
﴿إنّ فِي ذَلِكَ﴾ المَذْكُور مِن قِصَّة إبْراهِيم وقَوْمه
26:104Page 371
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ ١٠٤
And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.

﴿كَذَّبَتْ قَوْم نُوح المُرْسَلِينَ﴾ بِتَكْذِيبِهِمْ لَهُ لِاشْتِراكِهِمْ فِي المَجِيء بِالتَّوْحِيدِ، أوْ لِأَنَّهُ لِطُولِ لُبْثه فِيهِمْ كَأَنَّهُ رُسُل وتَأْنِيث قَوْم بِاعْتِبارِ مَعْناهُ وتَذْكِيره بِاعْتِبارِ لَفْظه
26:106Page 371
إِذۡ قَالَ لَهُمۡ أَخُوهُمۡ نُوحٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ١٠٦
When their brother Noah said to them, "Will you not fear Allāh?
﴿إذْ قالَ لَهُمْ أخُوهُمْ﴾ نَسَبًا ﴿نُوح ألا تَتَّقُونَ﴾ اللَّه
﴿إنِّي لَكُمْ رَسُول أمِين﴾ عَلى تَبْلِيغ ما أُرْسِلْت بِهِ
﴿فاتَّقُوا اللَّه وأَطِيعُونِي﴾ فِيما آمُركُمْ بِهِ مِن تَوْحِيد اللَّه وطاعَته
26:109Page 371
وَمَآ أَسۡـَٔلُكُمۡ عَلَيۡهِ مِنۡ أَجۡرٍۖ إِنۡ أَجۡرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ١٠٩
And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.
﴿وما أسْأَلكُمْ عَلَيْهِ﴾ عَلى تَبْلِيغه ﴿مِن أجْر إنْ﴾ ما ﴿أجْرِيَ﴾ أيْ ثَوابِي
﴿فاتَّقُوا اللَّه وأَطِيعُونِ﴾ كَرَّرَهُ تَأْكِيدًا
26:111Page 371
۞ قَالُوٓاْ أَنُؤۡمِنُ لَكَ وَٱتَّبَعَكَ ٱلۡأَرۡذَلُونَ ١١١
They said, "Should we believe you while you are followed by the lowest [class of people]?"
﴿قالُوا أنُؤْمِنُ﴾ نُصَدِّق ﴿لَك﴾ لِقَوْلِك ﴿واتَّبَعَك﴾ وفِي قِراءَة وأَتْباعك جَمْع تابِع مُبْتَدَأ ﴿الأَرْذَلُونَ﴾ السَّفَلَة كالحاكَةِ والأَساكِفَة
26:112Page 372
قَالَ وَمَا عِلۡمِي بِمَا كَانُواْ يَعۡمَلُونَ ١١٢
He said, "And what is my knowledge of what they used to do?
﴿قالَ وما عِلْمِي﴾ أيْ عِلْم لِي
26:113Page 372
إِنۡ حِسَابُهُمۡ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّيۖ لَوۡ تَشۡعُرُونَ ١١٣
Their account is only upon my Lord, if you [could] perceive.
﴿إنْ﴾ ما ﴿حِسابهمْ إلّا عَلى رَبِّي﴾ فَيُجازِيهِمْ ﴿لَوْ تَشْعُرُونَ﴾ تَعْلَمُونَ ذَلِكَ ما عَبَدْتُمُوهُمْ
26:114Page 372
وَمَآ أَنَا۠ بِطَارِدِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ ١١٤
And I am not one to drive away the believers.

﴿إنْ﴾ ما ﴿أنا إلّا نَذِير مُبِين﴾ بَيِّن الإنْذار
26:116Page 372
قَالُواْ لَئِن لَّمۡ تَنتَهِ يَٰنُوحُ لَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلۡمَرۡجُومِينَ ١١٦
They said, "If you do not desist, O Noah, you will surely be of those who are stoned."
﴿قالُوا لَئِنْ لَمْ تَنْتَهِ يا نُوح﴾ عَمّا تَقُول لَنا ﴿لَتَكُونَن مِن المَرْجُومِينَ﴾ بِالحِجارَةِ أوْ بِالشَّتْمِ
26:117Page 372
قَالَ رَبِّ إِنَّ قَوۡمِي كَذَّبُونِ ١١٧
He said, "My Lord, indeed my people have denied me.
﴿قالَ﴾ نُوح
26:118Page 372
فَٱفۡتَحۡ بَيۡنِي وَبَيۡنَهُمۡ فَتۡحٗا وَنَجِّنِي وَمَن مَّعِيَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ ١١٨
Then judge between me and them with decisive judgement and save me and those with me of the believers."
﴿فافْتَحْ بَيْنِي وبَيْنهمْ فَتْحًا﴾ أيْ اُحْكُمْ
26:119Page 372
فَأَنجَيۡنَٰهُ وَمَن مَّعَهُۥ فِي ٱلۡفُلۡكِ ٱلۡمَشۡحُونِ ١١٩
So We saved him and those with him in the laden ship.
﴿فَأَنْجَيْناهُ ومَن مَعَهُ فِي الفُلْك المَشْحُون﴾ المَمْلُوء مِن النّاس والحَيَوان والطَّيْر
26:120Page 372
ثُمَّ أَغۡرَقۡنَا بَعۡدُ ٱلۡبَاقِينَ ١٢٠
Then We drowned thereafter the remaining ones.
﴿ثُمَّ أغْرَقْنا بَعْد﴾ بَعْد إنْجائِهِمْ ﴿الباقِينَ﴾ مِن قَوْمه
26:121Page 372
إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَةٗۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكۡثَرُهُم مُّؤۡمِنِينَ ١٢١
Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ ١٢٢

When their brother Hūd said to them, "Will you not fear Allāh?

وَمَآ أَسۡـَٔلُكُمۡ عَلَيۡهِ مِنۡ أَجۡرٍۖ إِنۡ أَجۡرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ١٢٧
And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.
﴿وما أسْأَلكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِن أجْر إنْ﴾ ما
26:128Page 372
أَتَبۡنُونَ بِكُلِّ رِيعٍ ءَايَةٗ تَعۡبَثُونَ ١٢٨
Do you construct on every elevation a sign,1 amusing yourselves,
﴿أتَبْنُونَ بِكُلِّ رِيع﴾ مَكان مُرْتَفِع ﴿آيَة﴾ بِناء عَلَمًا لِلْمارَّةِ ﴿تَعْبَثُونَ﴾ بِمَن يَمُرّ بِكُمْ وتَسْخَرُونَ مِنهُمْ والجُمْلَة حال فِي ضَمِير تَبْنُونَ
26:129Page 372
وَتَتَّخِذُونَ مَصَانِعَ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَخۡلُدُونَ ١٢٩
And take for yourselves constructions [i.e., palaces and fortresses] that you might abide eternally?
﴿وتَتَّخِذُونَ مَصانِع﴾ لِلْماءِ تَحْت الأَرْض ﴿لَعَلَّكُمْ﴾ كَأَنَّكُمْ ﴿تَخْلُدُونَ﴾ فِيها لا تَمُوتُونَ
26:130Page 372
وَإِذَا بَطَشۡتُم بَطَشۡتُمۡ جَبَّارِينَ ١٣٠
And when you strike, you strike as tyrants.
﴿وإذا بَطَشْتُمْ﴾ بِضَرْبٍ أوْ قَتْل ﴿بَطَشْتُمْ جَبّارِينَ﴾ مِن غَيْر رَأْفَة
﴿فاتَّقُوا اللَّه﴾ فِي ذَلِكَ ﴿وأَطِيعُونِ﴾ فِيما أمَرْتُكُمْ بِهِ
26:132Page 372
وَٱتَّقُواْ ٱلَّذِيٓ أَمَدَّكُم بِمَا تَعۡلَمُونَ ١٣٢
And fear He who provided you with that which you know,
﴿واتَّقُوا الَّذِي أمُدّكُمْ﴾ أُنْعِم عَلَيْكُمْ

﴿وجَنّات﴾ بَساتِين ﴿وعُيُون﴾ أنْهار
26:135Page 372
إِنِّيٓ أَخَافُ عَلَيۡكُمۡ عَذَابَ يَوۡمٍ عَظِيمٖ ١٣٥
Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day."
﴿إنِّي أخاف عَلَيْكُمْ عَذاب يَوْم عَظِيم﴾ فِي الدُّنْيا والآخِرَة إنْ عَصَيْتُمُونِي
26:136Page 372
قَالُواْ سَوَآءٌ عَلَيۡنَآ أَوَعَظۡتَ أَمۡ لَمۡ تَكُن مِّنَ ٱلۡوَٰعِظِينَ ١٣٦
They said, "It is all the same to us whether you advise or are not of the advisors.
﴿قالُوا سَواء عَلَيْنا﴾ مُسْتَوٍ عِنْدنا ﴿أوَعَظْت أمْ لَمْ تَكُنْ مِن الواعِظِينَ﴾ أصْلًا أيْ لا نَرْعَوِي لِوَعْظِك
26:137Page 373
إِنۡ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا خُلُقُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ ١٣٧
This is not but the custom of the former peoples,
﴿إنْ﴾ ما ﴿هَذا﴾ الَّذِي خَوَّفْتنا بِهِ ﴿إلّا خُلُق الأَوَّلِينَ﴾ اخْتِلاقهمْ وكَذِبهمْ وفِي قِراءَة بِضَمِّ الخاء واللّام أيْ ما هَذا الَّذِي نَحْنُ عَلَيْهِ مِن إنْكار لِلْبَعْثِ إلّا خَلْق الأَوَّلِينَ أيْ طَبِيعَتهمْ وعادَتهمْ

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَهۡلَكۡنَٰهُمۡۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَةٗۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكۡثَرُهُم مُّؤۡمِنِينَ ١٣٩
And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.
﴿فَكَذَّبُوهُ﴾ بِالعَذابِ ﴿فَأَهْلَكْناهُمْ﴾ فِي الدُّنْيا بِالرِّيحِ
26:140Page 373
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ ١٤٠
And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.

أَتُتۡرَكُونَ فِي مَا هَٰهُنَآ ءَامِنِينَ ١٤٦
Will you be left in what is here, secure [from death],
﴿أتُتْرَكُونَ فِي ما هاهُنا﴾ مِن الخَيْرات

وَزُرُوعٖ وَنَخۡلٖ طَلۡعُهَا هَضِيمٞ ١٤٨
And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit?
﴿وزُرُوع ونَخْل طَلْعها هَضِيم﴾ لَطِيف لَيِّن
26:149Page 373
وَتَنۡحِتُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡجِبَالِ بُيُوتٗا فَٰرِهِينَ ١٤٩
And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill.
﴿وتَنْحِتُونَ مِن الجِبال بُيُوتًا فارِهِينَ﴾ بَطِرِينَ وفِي قِراءَة فارِهِينَ حاذِقِينَ
﴿فاتَّقُوا اللَّه وأَطِيعُونِ﴾ فِيما أمَرْتُكُمْ بِهِ
26:151Page 373
وَلَا تُطِيعُوٓاْ أَمۡرَ ٱلۡمُسۡرِفِينَ ١٥١
And do not obey the order of the transgressors,

ٱلَّذِينَ يُفۡسِدُونَ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَا يُصۡلِحُونَ ١٥٢
Who cause corruption in the land and do not amend."
﴿الَّذِينَ يُفْسِدُونَ فِي الأَرْض﴾ بِالمَعاصِي ﴿ولا يُصْلِحُونَ﴾ بِطاعَةِ اللَّه
26:153Page 373
قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُسَحَّرِينَ ١٥٣
They said, "You are only of those affected by magic.
﴿قالُوا إنّما أنْتَ مِن المُسَحَّرِينَ﴾ الَّذِينَ سَحَرُوا كَثِيرًا حَتّى غَلَبَ عَلى عَقْلهمْ
26:154Page 373
مَآ أَنتَ إِلَّا بَشَرٞ مِّثۡلُنَا فَأۡتِ بِـَٔايَةٍ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ ١٥٤
You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful."
﴿ما أنْتَ﴾ أيْضًا ﴿إلّا بَشَر مِثْلنا فَأْتِ بِآيَةٍ إنْ كُنْت مِن الصّادِقِينَ﴾ فِي رِسالَتك
26:155Page 373
قَالَ هَٰذِهِۦ نَاقَةٞ لَّهَا شِرۡبٞ وَلَكُمۡ شِرۡبُ يَوۡمٖ مَّعۡلُومٖ ١٥٥
He said, "This is a she-camel.1 For her is a [time of] drink, and for you is a [time of] drink, [each] on a known day.
﴿قالَ هَذِهِ ناقَة لَها شِرْب﴾ نَصِيب مِن الماء
26:156Page 373
وَلَا تَمَسُّوهَا بِسُوٓءٖ فَيَأۡخُذَكُمۡ عَذَابُ يَوۡمٍ عَظِيمٖ ١٥٦
And do not touch her with harm, lest you be seized by the punishment of a terrible day."
﴿ولا تَمَسُّوها بِسُوءٍ فَيَأْخُذكُمْ عَذاب يَوْم عَظِيم﴾ بِعِظَمِ العَذاب
26:157Page 373
فَعَقَرُوهَا فَأَصۡبَحُواْ نَٰدِمِينَ ١٥٧
But they hamstrung her and so became regretful.
﴿فَعَقَرُوها﴾ عَقَرَها بَعْضهمْ بِرِضاهُمْ ﴿فَأَصْبَحُوا نادِمِينَ﴾ عَلى عَقْرها
26:158Page 373
فَأَخَذَهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَةٗۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكۡثَرُهُم مُّؤۡمِنِينَ ١٥٨
And the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.
﴿فَأَخَذَهُمْ العَذاب﴾ المَوْعُود بِهِ فَهَلَكُوا
26:159Page 373
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ ١٥٩
And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.

أَتَأۡتُونَ ٱلذُّكۡرَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ١٦٥
Do you approach males among the worlds1
﴿العالَمِينَ﴾ النّاس
26:166Page 374
وَتَذَرُونَ مَا خَلَقَ لَكُمۡ رَبُّكُم مِّنۡ أَزۡوَٰجِكُمۚ بَلۡ أَنتُمۡ قَوۡمٌ عَادُونَ ١٦٦
And leave what your Lord has created for you as mates? But you are a people transgressing."
﴿وتَذَرُونَ ما خَلَقَ لَكُمْ رَبّكُمْ مِن أزْواجكُمْ﴾ أيْ أقْبالهنَّ ﴿بَلْ أنْتُمْ قَوْم عادُونَ﴾ مُتَجاوِزُونَ الحَلال إلى الحَرام
26:167Page 374
قَالُواْ لَئِن لَّمۡ تَنتَهِ يَٰلُوطُ لَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلۡمُخۡرَجِينَ ١٦٧
They said, "If you do not desist, O Lot, you will surely be of those evicted."
﴿قالُوا لَئِنْ لَمْ تَنْتَهِ يا لُوط﴾ عَنْ إنْكارك عَلَيْنا ﴿لَتَكُونَن مِن المُخْرَجِينَ﴾ مِن بَلْدَتنا
26:168Page 374
قَالَ إِنِّي لِعَمَلِكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡقَالِينَ ١٦٨
He said, "Indeed, I am, toward your deed, of those who detest [it].
﴿قالَ﴾ لُوط ﴿إنِّي لِعَمَلِكُمْ مِن القالِينَ﴾ المُبْغَضِينَ
26:169Page 374
رَبِّ نَجِّنِي وَأَهۡلِي مِمَّا يَعۡمَلُونَ ١٦٩
My Lord, save me and my family from [the consequence of] what they do."
﴿رَبّ نَجِّنِي وأَهْلِي مِمّا يَعْمَلُونَ﴾ أيْ مِن عَذابه

إِلَّا عَجُوزٗا فِي ٱلۡغَٰبِرِينَ ١٧١
Except an old woman1 among those who remained behind.
﴿إلّا عَجُوزًا﴾ امْرَأَته ﴿فِي الغابِرِينَ﴾ الباقِينَ أهْلَكْناها
﴿ثُمَّ دَمَّرْنا الآخَرِينَ﴾ أهْلَكْناهُمْ
26:173Page 374
وَأَمۡطَرۡنَا عَلَيۡهِم مَّطَرٗاۖ فَسَآءَ مَطَرُ ٱلۡمُنذَرِينَ ١٧٣
And We rained upon them a rain [of stones], and evil was the rain of those who were warned.
﴿وأَمْطَرْنا عَلَيْهِمْ مَطَرًا﴾ حِجارَة مِن جُمْلَة الإهْلاك ﴿فَساءَ مَطَر المُنْذَرِينَ﴾ مَطَرهمْ
26:174Page 374
إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَةٗۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكۡثَرُهُم مُّؤۡمِنِينَ ١٧٤
Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ ١٧٥
And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.

كَذَّبَ أَصۡحَٰبُ لۡـَٔيۡكَةِ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ ١٧٦
The companions of the thicket [i.e., the people of Madyan] denied the messengers
﴿كَذَّبَ أصْحاب الأَيْكَة﴾ وفِي قِراءَة بِحَذْفِ الهَمْزَة وإلْقاء حَرَكَتها عَلى اللّام وفَتْح الهاء: هِيَ غَيْضَة شَجَر قُرْب مَدْيَن
26:177Page 374
إِذۡ قَالَ لَهُمۡ شُعَيۡبٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ١٧٧
When Shuʿayb said to them, "Will you not fear Allāh?
﴿إذْ قالَ لَهُمْ شُعَيْب﴾ لَمْ يَقُلْ أخُوهُمْ لِأَنَّهُ لَمْ يَكُنْ مِنهُمْ

26:180Page 374
وَمَآ أَسۡـَٔلُكُمۡ عَلَيۡهِ مِنۡ أَجۡرٍۖ إِنۡ أَجۡرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ١٨٠
And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.
﴿وما أسْأَلكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِن أجْر إنْ﴾ ما
26:181Page 374
۞ أَوۡفُواْ ٱلۡكَيۡلَ وَلَا تَكُونُواْ مِنَ ٱلۡمُخۡسِرِينَ ١٨١
Give full measure and do not be of those who cause loss.
﴿أوْفُوا الكَيْل﴾ أتِمُّوهُ ﴿ولا تَكُونُوا مِن المُخْسِرِينَ﴾ النّاقِصِينَ
26:182Page 374
وَزِنُواْ بِٱلۡقِسۡطَاسِ ٱلۡمُسۡتَقِيمِ ١٨٢
And weigh with an even [i.e., honest] balance.
﴿وزِنُوا بِالقِسْطاسِ المُسْتَقِيم﴾ المِيزان السَّوِيّ
26:183Page 374
وَلَا تَبۡخَسُواْ ٱلنَّاسَ أَشۡيَآءَهُمۡ وَلَا تَعۡثَوۡاْ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مُفۡسِدِينَ ١٨٣
And do not deprive people of their due and do not commit abuse on earth, spreading corruption.
﴿ولا تَبْخَسُوا النّاس أشْياءَهُمْ﴾ لا تُنْقِصُوهُمْ مِن حَقّهمْ شَيْئًا ﴿ولا تَعْثَوْا فِي الأَرْض مُفْسِدِينَ﴾ بِالقَتْلِ وغَيْره مِن عَثِيَ بِكَسْرِ المُثَلَّثَة أفْسَدَ ومُفْسِدِينَ حال مُؤَكِّدَة لِمَعْنى عامِلها
26:184Page 375
وَٱتَّقُواْ ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَكُمۡ وَٱلۡجِبِلَّةَ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ ١٨٤
And fear He who created you and the former creation."1
﴿واتَّقُوا الَّذِي خَلَقَكُمْ والجِبِلَّة﴾ الخَلِيقَة
26:185Page 375
قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُسَحَّرِينَ ١٨٥
They said, "You are only of those affected by magic.

وَمَآ أَنتَ إِلَّا بَشَرٞ مِّثۡلُنَا وَإِن نَّظُنُّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلۡكَٰذِبِينَ ١٨٦
You are but a man like ourselves, and indeed, we think you are among the liars.
﴿وما أنْتَ إلّا بَشَر مِثْلنا وإنْ﴾ مُخَفَّفَة مِن الثَّقِيلَة واسْمها مَحْذُوف أيْ إنّهُ
26:187Page 375
فَأَسۡقِطۡ عَلَيۡنَا كِسَفٗا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ ١٨٧
So cause to fall upon us fragments of the sky, if you should be of the truthful."
﴿فَأَسْقِطْ عَلَيْنا كِسَفًا﴾ بِسُكُونِ السِّين وفَتْحها قِطَعًا ﴿مِن السَّماء إنْ كُنْت مِن الصّادِقِينَ﴾ فِي رِسالَتك
26:188Page 375
قَالَ رَبِّيٓ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ ١٨٨
He said, "My Lord is most knowing of what you do."
﴿قالَ رَبِّي أعْلَم بِما تَعْمَلُونَ﴾ فَيُجازِيكُمْ بِهِ
26:189Page 375
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَخَذَهُمۡ عَذَابُ يَوۡمِ ٱلظُّلَّةِۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ عَذَابَ يَوۡمٍ عَظِيمٍ ١٨٩
And they denied him, so the punishment of the day of the black cloud seized them. Indeed, it was the punishment of a terrible day.
﴿فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَخَذَهُمْ عَذاب يَوْم الظُّلَّة﴾ هِيَ سَحابَة أظَلَّتْهُمْ بَعْد حَرّ شَدِيد أصابَهُمْ فَأَمْطَرَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ نارًا فاحْتَرَقُوا
26:190Page 375
إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَةٗۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكۡثَرُهُم مُّؤۡمِنِينَ ١٩٠

نَزَلَ بِهِ ٱلرُّوحُ ٱلۡأَمِينُ ١٩٣
The Trustworthy Spirit [i.e., Gabriel] has brought it down
﴿نَزَلَ بِهِ الرُّوح الأَمِين﴾ جِبْرِيل
26:194Page 375
عَلَىٰ قَلۡبِكَ لِتَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُنذِرِينَ ١٩٤
Upon your heart, [O Muḥammad] - that you may be of the warners

﴿بِلِسانٍ عَرَبِيّ مُبِين﴾ بَيِّن وفِي قِراءَة بِتَشْدِيدِ نَزَلَ ونَصْب الرُّوح والفاعِل اللَّه

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَفِي زُبُرِ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ ١٩٦
And indeed, it is [mentioned] in the scriptures of former peoples.
﴿وإنَّهُ﴾ ذِكْر القُرْآن المُنَزَّل عَلى مُحَمَّد ﴿لَفِي زُبُر﴾ كُتُب ﴿الأَوَّلِينَ﴾ كالتَّوْراةِ والإنْجِيل
26:197Page 375
أَوَلَمۡ يَكُن لَّهُمۡ ءَايَةً أَن يَعۡلَمَهُۥ عُلَمَٰٓؤُاْ بَنِيٓ إِسۡرَٰٓءِيلَ ١٩٧
And has it not been a sign to them that it is recognized by the scholars of the Children of Israel?
﴿أوَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُمْ﴾ لِكُفّارِ مَكَّة ﴿آيَة﴾ عَلى ذَلِكَ ويَكُنْ بالتحتانية ونَصْب آيَة وبالفوقانية ورَفْع آيَة ﴿أنْ يَعْلَمهُ عُلَماء بَنِي إسْرائِيل﴾ كَعَبْدِ اللَّه بْن سَلام وأَصْحابه مِن الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا يُخْبِرُونَ بِذَلِكَ
26:198Page 375
وَلَوۡ نَزَّلۡنَٰهُ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضِ ٱلۡأَعۡجَمِينَ ١٩٨
And even if We had revealed it to one among the foreigners1
﴿ولَوْ نَزَّلْناهُ عَلى بَعْض الأَعْجَمِينَ﴾ جَمْع أعْجَم
26:199Page 375
فَقَرَأَهُۥ عَلَيۡهِم مَّا كَانُواْ بِهِۦ مُؤۡمِنِينَ ١٩٩
And he had recited it to them [perfectly],1 they would [still] not have been believers in it.
﴿فَقَرَأَهُ عَلَيْهِمْ﴾ كُفّار مَكَّة ﴿ما كانُوا بِهِ مُؤْمِنِينَ﴾ أنَفَة مِن اتِّباعه
26:200Page 375
كَذَٰلِكَ سَلَكۡنَٰهُ فِي قُلُوبِ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِينَ ٢٠٠
Thus have We inserted it [i.e., disbelief] into the hearts of the criminals.
﴿كَذَلِكَ﴾ أيْ مِثْل إدْخالنا التَّكْذِيب بِهِ بِقِراءَةِ الأَعْجَمِيّ ﴿سَلَكْناهُ﴾ أدْخَلْنا التَّكْذِيب بِهِ ﴿فِي قُلُوب المُجْرِمِينَ﴾ كُفّار مَكَّة بِقِراءَةِ النَّبِيّ
26:201Page 375
لَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ بِهِۦ حَتَّىٰ يَرَوُاْ ٱلۡعَذَابَ ٱلۡأَلِيمَ ٢٠١
They will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment.

فَيَأۡتِيَهُم بَغۡتَةٗ وَهُمۡ لَا يَشۡعُرُونَ ٢٠٢
And it will come to them suddenly while they perceive [it] not.

أَفَرَءَيۡتَ إِن مَّتَّعۡنَٰهُمۡ سِنِينَ ٢٠٥
Then have you considered if We gave them enjoyment for years
﴿أفَرَأَيْت﴾ أخْبِرْنِي
26:206Page 375
ثُمَّ جَآءَهُم مَّا كَانُواْ يُوعَدُونَ ٢٠٦
And then there came to them that which they were promised?
﴿ثُمَّ جاءَهُمْ ما كانُوا يُوعَدُونَ﴾ مِن العَذاب
