إِنَّآ أَنزَلۡنَٰهُ فِي لَيۡلَةِ ٱلۡقَدۡرِ ١
Indeed, We sent it [i.e., the Qur’ān] down during the Night of Decree.
﴿أَنزَلۡنَـٰهُ﴾: أنْزَلْنا القُرآنَ.
﴿ٱلۡقَدۡرِ﴾: الشَّرَفِ والفَضْلِ، وهي إحْدى لَيالِي شَهْرِ رَمَضانَ.

وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا لَيۡلَةُ ٱلۡقَدۡرِ ٢
And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree?
﴿وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ﴾: وأيُّ شَيءٍ أعْلَمَكَ؟

لَيۡلَةُ ٱلۡقَدۡرِ خَيۡرٞ مِّنۡ أَلۡفِ شَهۡرٖ ٣
The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months.
﴿خَيۡرࣱ مِّنۡ أَلۡفِ شَهۡرࣲ﴾: فَضْلُها خَيرٌ مِن فَضْلِ ألْفِ شَهْرٍ.

تَنَزَّلُ ٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ فِيهَا بِإِذۡنِ رَبِّهِم مِّن كُلِّ أَمۡرٖ ٤
The angels and the Spirit [i.e., Gabriel] descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter.1
﴿تَنَزَّلُ ٱلۡمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ فِيهَا﴾: يَكْثُرُ نُزُولُ الملائِكةِ وجِبْريلَ عَلَيهِ السَّلامُ فِيها.
﴿بِإِذۡنِ رَبِّهِم﴾: أي في النُّزُولِ.
﴿مِّن كُلِّ أَمۡرࣲ﴾: مِن أجْلِ كُلِّ أمْرٍ أرادَ اللهُ قَضاءَه في تِلْك السَّنةِ.
﴿سَلَـٰمٌ هِيَ﴾: هي أمْنٌ كُلُّها.
﴿حَتَّىٰ مَطۡلَعِ ٱلۡفَجۡرِ﴾: إلى طُلُوعِ الفجْرِ.
